This is a little different slant on the look thing,I played a lot of basketball outside in delhi park and cheviot behind the fieldhouse and i'll never forget this guy that was overweight and wore doubleknit dress pants and would absolutely destroy some of the guys that looked like ballers.

Yeah, did Larry Bird look like a baller?

Equal posting power???? What is that? It's not been that way on here for a long long time. Jacob is trying to change that and make this a great site for all Bearcat fans, not just for a certain group. If you don't like Bulldog, don't respond to him. There's people on here that I rarely respond to because I don't care that much for them. I'm sure people don't respond to me for the same reason. It's pretty easy actually. In fact, you don't even have to read a person's post if you don't want to.

Bulldog is obviously a Bearcat fan. I believe that or why would he waste so much time on here. He obviously really likes discussing Bearcat basketball, because he comes back here every day in spite of getting crucified every day. If people wouldn't respond so negatively to him, and call him names, and troll, and call for him to be banned, maybe the whole confrontational attitude of everyone, including Bulldog, would fade away.

I never doubted his fandom, I totally agree that he puts a lot of effort and time into this board. I don't dislike him at all, but sometime he says some things that I occasionally will feel the need to say something. I made a comment about not thinking we had a ton of local players back in the Huggs days , and turned out to be way wrong. It happens, and im not going to bite my tongue if I have an opinion, just because a couple people think the board is generally mean to bulldog. He has some great points, and some that make me raise my eyebrows. I just want facts to reign supreme in debates on here, and people to be chill enough to admit being wrong. If you felt attacked bulldog, my bad, I just wanted to offer a rebuttal to what you said. And my initial post quoted above is some overreaction I admit.

I think the reasoning is we hear Mick say they want to add 1 to 2 players 1 of which he wanted a good contributor. The staff obviously identifies they want certain players and does their best to get them. They fail and another school, near out current level, brings them in. It's disappointing and becoming repetitive. Mick set these expectations.

It is repetitive. That's the frustrating part. Mick and LD struck out last Spring too, and Savino had to save the day with Cobb. I'm starting to kind of wish that LD would've moved on and Savino would be Assoc HC. We could bring in a new asst who is a player's coach/former player/guy with NBA ties. I like LD, but he's a little too old school for me. It also bothers me a little that he and Mick's mindsets are so similar. Of course that worked out this year (in an unusual situation), but I just would like the guy who is second in command to challenge the HC a little with a different thought process. Our approach in recruiting seems stale. We've gone so far down the diamond in the rough path, that it has consumed our identity. Isn't it time for Mick's coaching tree to start to branching out? We gotta keep things fresh.

And take make matters worse LD coaches the guards also. We most definitely need a young coach with local ties. Nick van exEl? Old Cincinnati state coach? Also alex meecham and Donald little has successful aau programs. We haven't been close on not one of their recruits.

We should just not even play basketball. The sky has obviously fallen. Every other school gets every recruit they want. If they sign 4 players they only recruit 4 players because it is a given that they will never lose a recruiting battle. This is past ridiculous.

That's cute. I'm actually trying to have a real conversation though.

Go Mick! In Mick we trust! If we didn't land him, I'm sure the staff decided we didn't want him! We only bring in our type! He must just be one of those pampered lottery picks! I actually kinda like how we don't send players to the NBA! We do it the right way. When absolutely everything is perfectly lined up for us, Mick will deliver!

^See, I can do that too...and call it past ridiculous. But that just wouldn't be constructive...

I agree that as great as LD has been, I kind of wish he moved on to get a head coaching opportunity. I would like to see a shift in the recruiting philosophy.

I love the idea of Van Exel. He could really help us land area guards. I might actually feel like we'd have a fighting chance for the Terry Rozier type guys.

It is just getting so damn repetitive on this site. Every thread. Same shit.

Yes it is and the same people take it there.

This thread is called "Coaching Staff". I am on topic. Don't click on it if you don't want to read about it. And don't respond if you don't want to be in on the conversation. Pretty simple really.

For what reason? Average HC in d-league makes $75,000 and I don't even think Van Exel is a head coach. Assistant coaches at the major college level make more money.

The main reason I said that was b/c he was already an assistant in college in 09 and has been in some form of the NBA since.

For all of those who are critical of Mick, I would like to pose a question-Would you rather have Mick or Steve Lavin/Josh Pastner? Recruiting is only part of the battle and results are more important. Very few programs have accomplished the consistency that we have shown the past 5-6 years. The tournament is a crapshoot, anything can happen. Teams with inferior talent can get hot and make it pretty far. I wish we had more competent bigs and another shooter, but this team next year will be good.

A lot of people have been bringing up St. John's and Memphis lately. So, what we're saying about that is...They land Top 100 recruits, and don't have a winning culture. Therefore, if we landed Top 100 recruits, we wouldn't have a winning culture either? Is that the logic? Btw I'd take Mick over those 2 and it isn't close. To be clear, I don't think Mick should go anywhere. Not only is he not going to, but I don't think he should. And I'm not calling for LD to get fired, run off, etc. I just feel like it is a good and normal thing to have a coaching tree start to branch off once you really get established. It is supposed to be an exciting thing, and something to be proud of. So when I say I wish LD had moved on, I mean that. And I hope he moves on next year. Savino has been waiting in the wings, and I'd like to see him get a chance to ride shotgun with Mick for a handful of years, before he moves on to head up his own program in the northeast. Think about it, that's exactly what Mick did when he left Louisville for Murray State. It's something that makes the HC look good too. Much like players seeing that they can get to the next level somewhere, coaches see where they can cling onto to learn to run their own program.
