You've had a nice little season. But the end comes Friday. Your mid major team isn't bad but you wouldn't win 5 games in the Big East.

I have nothing against you guys. You certainly Do things the right way unlike Eggsavior or uCONn. Honestly I think I would root for creighton against most teams. But your season ends badly Friday. Sorry I'm not sorry.

I see. So you're 'that guy' on the boards over here. Thanks for the heads up.

As for everyone else, looking forward to a great game.

Yep, he is our moronic troll. I can only guess several of his posts are going to end up on Creighton boards, just know he doesn't represent our fan base. Should be an interesting game: an elite offense going against an elite defense.

Yes please ignore that knucklehead as he does not speak for any of us and I mean any of us.

I expect a great game. I don't know if I would call any team mid-major this year. None of the teams this year seem to be head and shoulders above anyone else.

Now with that said I'm having a hard time figuring out how good your team really is. Looking at that conference I don't see a lot of competition in it. How did you end up with 5 losses in that league?

Should be an interesting game of defense vs offense here. Your team looks like it can light it up on the score board. The 50% shooting is pretty impressive along with 75% FT and 42% 3 point shooting.

The question is how good is McDermott? If we can keep locked down how good are the other guys?

Welcome to the board. I am excited to see how/if we can contain McDermott. He is an unreal player with a great shot. Your team shooting pctg is sky high so others have to be able to shoot as well. It will be a great contest with our D against your O. It will be interesting to see if we play this uptempo or try to slow it down, cant wait to see what gameplan Mick comes up with.

Good matchup for both teams, I like this game. Team with a lot of offense and a moderately unproven schedule going against a team with a great D, and a god-awful offense against a tough schedule. Wouldn't be shocked to see this one go down to the wire.

The answer is Mcdermitt is possibly the best basketball player in the country, he might not be the most athletic, but basketball wise he is extremely well rounded, it will be hard to guard him because offensively he does everything well. Shoots, passes, rebounds, he can beat you on a post up, he can beat you on a fade out in the corner, he can shoot mid range jumpers, he can use the glass he can hit a shot of balanced, he truly is a GREAT college basketball player, and without him idk if they would have made the tourney, gibbs will be another tough matchup for us, I would say Rubles on McDermitt and Jaquon on Gibbs, They hae a good big man with goggles than can rebound and one good guard that can shoot. This game is going to come down to the last possession for sure and I don't know who will win but it is for certain creighton is a good basketball club and by no means will be an easy out.

See I don't think this game comes down to the wire. I think one team blows the other team out. I'm just not sure which way that will be at this point.

Either Creighton will be exposed for a weak schedule or UC for no offense. I actually think an up tempo game favors the cats. Those types of games tend to lead to easy points which is something we will need.

I heard a stat this morning that all final four teams last year were top 10 defensive teams. Read into that what you will.

Why would it be an uptempo game though?

Creighton is #213 in adjusted tempo. We are #250. This game is going to be played in the high 50's or low 60's.

What are most fans saying from the Creighton side?? Im very curious.

As for our side of things... I would honestly say I think this will be the toughest Defense you will see all season. With that being said, Creightons ability to shoot the ball from anywhere at any position is a concern.

They put up 84 against Wisconsin on a neutral floor...I'm sure they've seen every gimmick in the book to guard McDermott. Wisconsin gives up 55.9 ppg(10th in the country).

Really concerned about McDermott drawing loads of fouls against our guys and punishing us at the FT line. The guy gets to the line a ridiculous amount

The game vs Wisconsin was early season and the guy guarding McDermott fouled out. McD went 9-10FT.

My first instinct is to rough him up a bit and knock him off rhythm, but you generally don't want to do that to a 86% free throw shooter. I watched a couple Creighton games this year (admittedly while they weren't playing so well) and when McDermott is not feeling it, the team seems to panic. They keep feeding him until he gets hot and that's when they can play with anyone in the country. I think we just have to play the "make someone else beat you" game.

Doug is such a constant for us that his production is, for better or worse, taken for granted. It's the potluck that we get from our other players that determines what to expect.

On the one hand, we showed up against Wisconsin and pretty much did whatever we wanted. The people on the Bucky board (a popular Badger bbs) said the better team won. On the other hand the team that showed in February would have lost by 25 to the team that beat Wisconsin. It was so bad six weeks ago that I couldn't believe it was the same team. We're probably 75% of that team that won vs Wisconsin and at Cal. A huge loss for us was Josh Jones having to stop playing due to serious heart problems. He didn't start but gave us a dimension that we still miss.

Apart from Doug, Echenique is one guy we have that can match the athleticism you have. He was the Big East freshman of the year awhile back at Rutgers and is as physical as his opponents will be.

I think the guy you need to make sure doesn't beat you is Ethan Wragge. He's 6'7" and barrel chested so he comes in for Echenique but he's about as atypical a 5 as there is. Not all that athletic but he has an eternal green light from 3. We struggle like hell when he's off and when he is off he really hurts us and we are vulnerable, but holy hell when he's on our O can score like a pinball game due to both his scoring and the positive conundrums he presents to defenses.

I'd imagine Doug will get 20, he did against Zeller and Henson last year in the tourney vs Carolina, but his efficiency will take a hit. Press, push out on our shooters, and do your best to not get killed by Doug's scoring and you'll be there, because thats the D that can throw us off. Double Doug and hope we miss is less appealing, though it's worked when we just happen to be off.

One other thing: Doug almost never gets into foul trouble, in part because he doesn't play much D early in games. He's kind of on a Jimmer rule here, as in, giving up an easy bucket is far preferable than a foul. The two times he's been out with foul trouble involved a couple of offensive fouls and a loose ball foul.

He also has a good basketball iq when down low. If you were a Wichita fan you would say that consists of acting on shots to draw fouls, combined with a high level of physicality himself that he gets away with - some on the Shocker board call him Captain Hook because of the way he uses his off arm. Naturally my attitude is that doing what won't get called and benefiting from that makes you a better player and not a 'star treatment' player but of course I would say that.

I thought I'd point that out.

I watched the MVC final and thought "wow I don't want to play either of those teams." Creighton was straight lethal with McDermott on the block. Leave one guy on him, he'll go one on one and score basically every time. Double down, and he'd kick it out for a wide open jumper. He is such a talented player, but watching that game he really put on display how intelligent he is as well. I agree with your assessment that hardcore pressing and throwing the guards off their game seems to be the best way to beat Creighton. We can go pretty deep into our bench so I hope and pray that is the game plan. Then again, we have been begging our coach to implement the all out press, but he has seemed reluctant all year, despite saying that is the plan in the media.
