Doug is such a constant for us that his production is, for better or worse, taken for granted. It's the potluck that we get from our other players that determines what to expect.
On the one hand, we showed up against Wisconsin and pretty much did whatever we wanted. The people on the Bucky board (a popular Badger bbs) said the better team won. On the other hand the team that showed in February would have lost by 25 to the team that beat Wisconsin. It was so bad six weeks ago that I couldn't believe it was the same team. We're probably 75% of that team that won vs Wisconsin and at Cal. A huge loss for us was Josh Jones having to stop playing due to serious heart problems. He didn't start but gave us a dimension that we still miss.
Apart from Doug, Echenique is one guy we have that can match the athleticism you have. He was the Big East freshman of the year awhile back at Rutgers and is as physical as his opponents will be.
I think the guy you need to make sure doesn't beat you is Ethan Wragge. He's 6'7" and barrel chested so he comes in for Echenique but he's about as atypical a 5 as there is. Not all that athletic but he has an eternal green light from 3. We struggle like hell when he's off and when he is off he really hurts us and we are vulnerable, but holy hell when he's on our O can score like a pinball game due to both his scoring and the positive conundrums he presents to defenses.
I'd imagine Doug will get 20, he did against Zeller and Henson last year in the tourney vs Carolina, but his efficiency will take a hit. Press, push out on our shooters, and do your best to not get killed by Doug's scoring and you'll be there, because thats the D that can throw us off. Double Doug and hope we miss is less appealing, though it's worked when we just happen to be off.
