After watching his team turn the ball over 20 times in its 72-54 loss at St. John’s on Sunday, Notre Dame coach Mike Brey expects UC to come at the Irish hard with its full-court pressure when the two teams meet Wednesday in South Bend.
“We’ve got to get back to handling the ball better,” Brey said today. “People are going to press us and come after us. In the last two games, that’s been very successful. Cincinnati has the athleticism and depth to come up with the same defensive game plan.
“That’s the book on us,” Brey continued. “Come after us. Try to frazzle us. See how we handle it. The same thing is going to happen Wednesday night. For people who have the bodies that can do that, we’re going to have to deal with it.”
Like UC, the Irish (14-4 overall, 3-3 in the Big East) have lost their last two games on the road by double digits – by 18 to St. John’s and by 22 at Marquette. But they are 11-0 at home, where they beat UC last year, 83-65.
“You’ve got to win somewhere if you’re going to get an NCAA bid,” Brey said. “Let’s keep doing it here.”
