Jermaine Lawrence asks for release

None of those recruits you mentioned bring in what you say UC needs.

Justin Martin does, he has tons of experience and could be a great fit for our needs. Problem is, I don't think we will be able to land him. Stewart is the best available recruit left, and even if he doesn't fill an immediate need, he is definitely the scorer that we will need in the upcoming future.

I'd like to hear more details about his father considering we haven't heard anything about him.

That's crazy UC has that control as to what schools can recruit Lawrence. I had no ides that was possible.

Not so crazy to me. They're making a serious financial investment in each student (recruiting, visits, scholly) that when something like this comes up you have to make sure you don't get the short end of the stick.

Its awesome. I personally just never heard it before. But I sure do like it.

Experience does not equate to leadership. I know quite a few X fans and what they say about him definitely does not scream leadership.

I wouldn't put much stock in comments made after a guy leaves. See... well... this thread for instance. :D

This wasn't after he left. I haven't talked to them about Martin transferring. Basically they said Martin seemed out of it for most games and rarely brought consistent effort.

I don't know, or pretend to know, UC's interest in Martin. You'd have to bet that Cronin and staff are doing their due diligence and will make the best call for the current season and development of the younger guys. SK, TR, and JJ did a lot to create a positive culture. They won't let someone drag that down.

I hope so. Of course I never heard that Martin had a bad attitude per say, but wouldn't call him a leader. That is based on discussions I've had, I've only seen Martin play a few times. As for a positive culture, I'd guess that Ellis and Cobb are a much bigger risk to mess that up than Martin.

I think we were blinded by the press clipings on JL. Losing him is difficult because we're basing his potential on what we were told. But, what we saw with our eyes was something different. The disappointment of him leaving is based more on the remnants of our expectations than what we actually saw with our eyes. Some of these new guys "should" be able to make up for the loss of JL. Plus hopefully, they prove to be more durable from an injury standpoint. I wish we could have seen the player we thought we were going to see, but the truth is that we didn't, and now we never will. It's sad to see him go, but it will be exciting to see whatever player benefits from him leaving, get more playing time and develop to help us the next 4 years. I never expected JL to stay past a year or two anyway.

I think there are a number of reasons why he didn't WOW us. Truth is probably in the middle of your press clipping senario and many other contributing factors. Like you I wish he would have stayed and fullfilled the promise but that is behind us. To qoute a former Coach "Next Man Up."

Exactly. Obviously we didn't want Jermaine to leave, but dwelling on it does nothing. Playing the what if game leads to tears anytime you see kenyon martin or OJ Mayo haha.
