This post is 100% false. What did the Reds do at the trading deadline for 2 years in a row? Certainly was not picking anyone up to get them over the hump. Does Chapman closing give them a better shot at winning a championship? Have they done anything this offseason to date to make the team better? If anything to date the Reds are weaker w/o Arroyo and Choo. Oh wait their big move for the playoff run was activating Zack Duke, what a blockbuster move.

Dusty was manager of the year twice that was given some of the best young players, fielders and pitchers and Mick won as many NCAA games as Dusty won playoff games. The Reds were never close to sniffing the NLCS let alone the WS. Marvin still has not won a playoff game to date, MC is definitely better than that.

This comparison is completely horrible, let alone shows you know nothing about baseball.
careful Patrick your going to fire him up. LOL

Nobody said he was a bad coach. The question is, can he take us to the next level? It's the same question we asked about Rick Minter. Back then, we knew how to answer that question. We had a forward thinking AD and administration. By the way, how did that work out?

It's the same question with Mick. Are we happy rarely being ranked, not winning championships (league, conf. tourney, national, etc), not getting any top recruits, having a half full arena, not having passionate fans (other than the few on these Cronin fan club sites), having zero shooters, embarrassing inside game, an offense that the national announcers joke about for two hours on telecasts....probably driving away the few recruits who have a little game who are considering us,......
and then biting our finger nails on selection Sunday hoping we get selected in the tourney, and anxiously awaiting what "higher" ranked team we get to play in round 1 (because our seeds are so low).

My opinion is that he cannot take us to the next level with the type of players he keeps running out there in front of us. And, he definitely can't do it with a fanbase that despises him and won't attend games.

I understand what you are saying, but I think Mick is finally starting to get the talent that will take us there. In reality, he has only had one completely disastrous recruiting class. That is going to be expected, as sometimes you just can't catch a break. Look at our past class, a top 25 class, and next year's class, in which we already have two 4 stars and possibly another big get (Torian Graham). Bearcat NTS was spot on in his analysis of this Junior class, it was just a dud. Right now, we are stuck in a transition. Let's see how we look after next year and if there is no progress shown, then I would agree. Clearly, the recruits are starting to notice us, as we now have a solid pipeline to NYC, NJ, etc. In closing, I would like to ask you a question-Did you like Bob Huggins? If so, you are seeing pretty much the same exact stuff now as you saw with him. For most of his tenure, we had bad offense, great defense, poor shooting, and some guys who just never reach their potential. Mick is essentially trying to use the same formula, and I think it will work now that we have Darren Savino doing one hell of a job recruiting for us. He has had a tremendous impact on the program and I think we will start seeing the fruits of his work very soon.

I read a quote from B.Koch today and it went like this.

The last UC team to win and score in the 40's was a UC victory over UAB in the 1993.

Who coached that team?
So you are telling me that former HOF UC coaches had horrible offensive days?

Shocking development for some people on this site.....

Baloney! Pastner was handed the keys to a great team that had made it to a sweet sixteen, 2 elite eights, and a championship game in the four years before he got there. They did lose some players after Calipari left, but it was nothing compared to the train wreck that Mick was stuck with. Memphis also has nothing else to compete with, as their football team almost always sucks in recent years, they have one of the nicest arenas in the country, and they just have great facilities in general. Mick had a great tradition to work off of, and that was about it. Mick has plenty of flaws and he drives me insane sometimes, but he isn't a bad coach. You are delusional if you think he is mediocre and that we would be much better with someone else.

1. Basketball is king in Memphis. Pastner will have 2-3 top 100 recruits from the city every year to get.

2. They play in a NBA arena in front of 16,000 fans every night.

I will say Pastner finally looks like he has a good team, they were impressive last night. You want to know why they are finally good? He has 4 senior guards. It doesn't matter how well you can recruit, it still takes upperclassmen to win in college basketball...

Wow, finally got done reading this thread. I think going forward we need to tell our players they will have to read these threads if they lose the crosstown shootout, if that doesn't motivate them to play their best and win then nothing will.

I get both sides of the argument. I for one am supporting Mick and until he fully shows me he can't take this team to the next level then he will continue to have my support. This team has steadily improved every year since he's been here. Through winning then through recruiting. The rebuilding process is over. Mick did a great job at that. Now it's time to take the program to the next level of top rated teams and top seeds. I don't expect that this year as I've seen this team play. The talent isn't there. We can continue to harp on why it isn't there, but we can't change the talent mid-year. This year's recruits and next year's recruits have the talent. If they don't pan out and win at a high level then it is time to move the program in a new direction. If he continues to swing and miss on big men then it's time to move the program in a different direction. The question I want people to answer is do you think Mick gets the most out of his talent? I say absolutely. The talent isn't here and again we can and will argue why that is, but if we feel he can get the most out of his talent and the talent coming in keeps increasing then by logic we should have hope that our brighter days are still ahead for us.

Told myself that I wouldn't respond to stupidity anymore, but its hard to sit on the sideline and read some of the garbage you have posted. What a surprise that after a win last night, you only have a handful of posts. All of them are some backhanded compliment. After the Xavier game, you had over 30 posts, all of them negative. Shocking, isn't it. What are the chances that you were hoping for a loss last night, just waiting by the keyboard to let us know that you again were proven right? Must have ruined your night once Rubles made that shot. Only a few idiots like yourself want Cronin fired. The beauty of it all is that he will remain coach at UC long after you are gone. And you will remain a miserable human being, just waiting in the shadows for another loss to post on an anonymous message board, letting people know how 'right' you have been all along. BTW, how's your buddy Billy Don. Both of you knew that Cronin was a bad hire from the start because of all of your 'experience'. Must have been a miserable last 3+ years for both of you.
And please don't act like you speak for the fan base, because you don't. I also have season tickets in the 'red sweater' section. Everyone around me is a 'true' Bearcat fan and wants the program to succeed. No one 'despises' the coach. Or cares that he went to Louisville. All they care about is that we win, do it the right way, and make the NCAA's. And in the last 3 years, that what they have been given. And it will continue into the future, much to your dismay.

We used to think Huggs teams were bad offense, but bad offense has now been redefined. Huggs offenses were a thing of beauty compared to what Mick throws out there. And to your comment about players not reaching their potential. Come on. You can say a lot of things about Huggs, but that's certainly not one of them. He has some of the greatest stories ever of players reaching and exceeding their potential.

I agree with a lot of what you have said but in terms of helping kids reach their potential I would like to see a little bit more. Example...Shaq Thomas has a shot trajectory that is WAY too low...and it was that way as soon as he got here and still today. I would like to have seen Cronin get that trajectory up by now. With Caupain...I would like to see a coach work on him lowering his dribble for more control and quicker reaction time to make a move. Speed up Sanders outside shot a little. Little OBVIOUS things like this can go a long way.

Good points, but it did take him a long time, you must admit. If it takes somebody with that much talent that long to win, it shows just how hard it is to be consistently successful, year in and year out. Mick has been consistent, that is for sure. I hope he can take us to the next level, he has already upgraded the talent and done a nice job lobbying for facility upgrades. The new and improved practice gym is a good start, I hope there is room for more improvements after the football renovations are finished.

5 things I would like to see from Mick as a coach and in the last two recruits of this class and one in the next class (provided Lawrence doesn't leave).

1. A pure shooter (2014 class)

2. An athletic center human eraser (2014 class)

3. Another quality PG (probably 2015 class)

4. A coach to help with offensive scheme (immediately)

5. Cronin himself or another coach to work with players like Thomas who need shooting adjustments or Caupain to dribble the ball lower etc.

Within 3-4 years we need to be in high national contention or it will be time to look in another direction IMO.

Good points. I think we need more than one pure shooter though. It would be nice to have a K-Mart type eraser, but I would be happy with just a solid center with good overall skills. Some of the centers we've had recently have just been brutal. If we go 3-4 more years and don't reach your expectations, we'll be 12 years down the road at that point. Thats way too long to be out of the limelight IMO.

Every team needs guy who can do certain things in a half-court offense. You need guys who can knock down the 3. You need guys who can break down someone off the dribble and get to the rim. You need guys who can create space and knock down mid-range jumpers. You need guys who can score in the post. And you need guys who can move without the ball and find ways to score without the ball in their hands (until they catch and score, obviously).

Our best player can do about 2.5 of these things. Some other guys have the potential to do 2, but aren't quite there yet. You don't need a guy who can do all 5 or even 4 of these things, but you can't rely on one or even two guys to do it all.

Most of our guys can't even do one of these things, at least consistently. Our offensive scheme is questionable, at best, but so is the offensive ability of our current roster. I hope we were all nice this year so Santa will bring us some players in 2014 who have these kinds of skills. I think Torian Graham has the skills to score in at least 3 of the 5 ways I mentioned... I hope Mick, Darren, and the rest of the staff are focusing all of their efforts on him.

I come by this site every now and then to see if I can pick up a tidbit of
info from time to time. Never bothered to register. I did feel compelled to
sign up today just so that I could applaud your post!!! The poster you are responding to used to spend his time polluting the environment at bearcat news with the same garbage. Well done!!!!!!!!!!!

I would take 2 shooters as well. I think we will have a solid offensive center/PF (between Debarry, Strickland, or Moore) but I'm not sure any of them fit Cronin's scheme...maybe Moore. I know Moore is more of a PF who wants to play wing but that's not going to happen.

I'm just being realistic about the 3-4 years. He's just not going to get fired anytime soon. Not in the next two years anyway. I would advise you to deal with that reality.

I'm dealing with it just fine. I attend every single game, will attend the league tournament in Memphis, and if we get an NCAA bid, I'll go there. If , god forbid, we get an NIT bid, hopefully we, get a home game and I'll be at that one as well. If Mick had more fans like me, these sites would be a lot different. That's the problem!

KJ needs to tap in on more minutes. Somebody needs to see these things. Why do we have assistant coaches. UC players never develop and some come to the organization better and become worse, the bearcats need to come up with a developmental system, and learn to use one of the most dangerous kids on the floor (KJ) the frosh
