-Micks refusal to play his game is ridiculous. UC's game is to press and create a decent pace. Playing a half court game goes completely against this teams ability. We are long and athletic, press. Always conforming to others styles is never going to get us anywhere.

-Zero ability to shoot.

-Zero post play.

-Zero intensity.

Ill expand later on some of these, others thoughts? I foresee a collapse like previous years.

I will agree that I think they should press more but when Wilks and Jackson both have 3 fouls at half that is difficult to do. This teams low bb iq makes it hard to press all the time because they commit so many stupid fouls 75 feet from the basket.

I liked Biggies effort yesterday. Post play has been a problem all season.

I thought they played hard yesterday. They just were physically unable to execute. i.e. shooting.

LL, I'm with you on each issue but I wonder something. I wonder back in August if we had told people UC would be 18-5 with 4 of those 5 losses being on the road to Nova, Cuse, ND, and Pitt what they would have said? Funny thing is I remember a lot of people saying they didn't think UC would win 15 games. Now you can't find those people. It seems everyone predicted 22-23 wins all of a sudden.

The problem with that thinking- expectations change. You saw how the cats performed OOC (no matter how bad it really was) and everyone was thinking NCAA tournament. Really, if UC beat WV at home it wouldnt be this bad of thinking- but to lose to a team without their best player (and really, UC should have beat them even if they had them) and the way they lost just brings back memories of the past three years and how they finished.

To just say "were 18-5, its a great season" is taking the easy way out. This team had (still has) a great chance at making the NCAA tournament- and many fans thought this team could be a NCAA tournament team to begin the year. Especially after such a great start it would be a major let down if they dont make the Tournament

That's not what I'm saying with that statement. I agree the team is in shape for more and shouldn't be satisfied with less. I'm simply saying they've exceeded the expectations of many and realistically there aren't any bad losses. They've looked bad in those losses but the loss itself wasn't bad.

They still control their own destiny. What we've learned is they don't have the talent to beat top teams. That doesn't mean they can't be part of the field of 68.

This team is headed nowhere in a hurry. People can point the start, people can point to the quality losses (leaving out how completely outplayed we looked in each and every one of them) and that's all well and good. But it still comes down to the fact that we have a middle to lower to BE team. And a team whose NCAA hopes are greatly in jeopardy.

In year 5,to me, this team does not look like they've made it over the hump. That's not to say they won't next year either. But I do think people who think this team is much better, if any, than last year, are fooled but a weak OOC and are oversimplifying each and every loss. I see much of the same, even down to gameplan and execution, and to the mentality of some players.

Facts are this team is nowhere near ready to compete for anything of great note. If some are happy with that, that's totally ok. Like Jeff said, I don't remember many predicting much for them anyway. They've probably exceeded expectations, so this shouldn't be a surprise.

If some aren't happy though, you can't really blame them for not accepting mediocrity either. Look no further than some of the reactions after every time we play anyone good. No one expects to win, it's just chalked up as almost acceptable and expected. If that's not admitting you have an average program, I'm not sure what is.

Look I want to make this clear. I'm not happy with where the program is. I love the Bearcats and I want them to be champions. Mediocrity isn't acceptable.

There is such a thing as reality though. Reality is they can still win over 20 games. Reality is they can still make the NCAA. I'm tired of hearing the smoke and mirrors stuff. Reality is they are 18-5 and have beat bad too average competition and fallen way short against good competition. It is what it is.

My biggest concern is the lack of mental toughness on this team. I think that is what leads to mistakes, big runs by opponents, poor defense and bad shots. They seriously lack mental toughness and that's what it will take to turn this around and finish with enough strength to grab a berth.

The upcoming week will determine the season. All 3 are winnable games. They basically have to sweep the games to make the tournament. I predicted a 18 win season at the max, so they have already reached my expectations.

I agree it's the most critical 3 game stretch of the season.

UConn has Kemba. Cuse has Ricky Jackson. Pitt has Ashton Gibbs and so on. Louisville has Siva. The top teams have go to guys. UC doesn't. That's something that has to change long term.

Mick sees the the team every day in practice, he and the assistants know best what they can and cannot do.

I guess my attempt at jocularity.......FAILED!

(and now I see a new nominee for post of the week) :D

The way we've played offensively it's hard to go out on a limb, but I think they have a shot to win 3 in a row. Two are at home and I'll be there on Sunday so they damn well better win!

To take the 3 games and win, it would all boil down to putting the ball in the basket. we know they will play solid defense and rebound the ball, but they have to shoot at a higher clip. If they start pressing more and start shooting from 3 better, they will have a chance to win every game left, but if they dont and look lethargic, they have a chance to lose every game left. There is no guarantees in the Big East and I am hoping Depaul does not prove that with us..
