As of right now we are .5 turnovers less but we average 8 more possessions Tha last year. Based on the turnover ratio...that would equate to more than two less turnovers. Of course we still have the meat of the schedule so you could be right. Either way...it can still be much better

Last year we turned it over 20.5% of possessions (300th in the country). This year we are at 17.4% (133rd).

Good info there. When I look at games like Butler, when we give them 14+ more offensive possessions than us and lose by single digits its painful. Not to mention, our turnovers turn into easy baskets for the other team. It seems like we are losing points off turnovers against the better competition. We have a high number of turnovers against teams that aren't even putting much pressure on us. It makes me wonder how they will handle VCU's pressure d.

We have been through much of the easy part of the schedule so I hope they can at least hold it where we are now...that would be a decent improvement

Caupain might be the sole cause of this stat without looking

Edit...his assist to turnover ratio has been a massive improvement so it might not be enough with just his turnovers

Our guards have been ok on TO. I think we'll handle the pressure alright.

I trust Caupain, Cobb, and Evans in the turnover department. KJ is averaging nearly 3 turnovers in last 4 games and Shaq is averaging over 2 TO's in his last 3 games...so they are heading in the wrong direction. Jenifer leads all guards per 40 minutes in turnovers.

Per 40 minutes of BB

Moore...5.7
Ellis...3.8
Jenifer...3.8
Shaq...2.7 (and getting worse)
KJ...2.7 (and getting worse)
Clark...1.9
Cobb...1.8
Caupain...1.6
DeBerry...1.6
Evans...1.3

If Jenifer only tried to make the simple passes that Shaq and K J make he wound not have any turnovers. KJ is just like Shaq the game does not come easy for them.

He went into extensive detail on the problems in college basketball today. I thought it was spot on.

Mick's best years will come as an analyst on ESPN or some other network. He's extremely knowledgeable on the game of basketball and does a great job of articulating it to his audience. I think it's that same knowledge and attention to detail that sometimes handcuffs him as a coach, he does have a tendency to over-complicate things.

When the schedule got tougher, starting with Nebraska and for the last 6 games, the numbers look a lot different.

Cobb = 1.1
Caupain = 1.6
Evans = 2.0
Jenifer = 3.0 (1.3 last 3 games)
KJ = 3.9

Jenifer is getting better and better. Plus, Troy doesn't throw the ball to the other team, but he shoots the ball to the other team. His shooting volume and percentage is horrendous thru that 6 game stretch. He seems like one of these guys who thinks he is allowed to shoot his way out of a slump, and he just keeps shooting. He's a point guard. He should have the skills to stop launching 3s and try something else to help himself and the team. I view his volume of missed shots as mostly turnovers.

Notes
-Said Cobb is a great player bc he puts in so much work. Talked about how determined he was to play at the highest level.
-Said Caupain needs to work on defense and being active with his hands. Also said he needs to get on the same page with him to be the closer down the stretch.
-Said Jenifer had his best game. Said he got in the habit of trying to score so much bc he had to carry the load his SR year of high school. Was more of a true point before that...trying to channel that bc he is a great passer you can't stay in front of.
-Said a lot about Quadri Moore. Said he had his best practice ever yesterday. Said Quadri is hellbent on making this work.
-Said our bench can be a big key for us in conference play.

Hands up and active is my motto rest of season. NOBODY on schedule can beat us if we stay active defensively

Also troy needs sit down and have one on one with Mick to let him know he's not comfortable closing. You can't force something on him he's not ready for. Close games off matchups coach

Man why do you speak so matter of Factly about how caupain feels, He's made some mistakes but I dont think he has any feel of closing.

I mean, there are very few players who hit consistent clutch shots in the last 30 seconds. Michael Jordan, Lebron James or who ever all missed a ton of buzzer beater shots.

I haven't seen anything that says Caupain doesnt want to close games, he has just made a few mistakes.

You say match ups; but you really have 3 options don't you? Drive and dish, drive and shoot, or post up.

I don't trust our post up players enough to win that battle in the closing seconds with not a lot of time to go to work. So you need to drive. Who else on this team are you comfortable taking the ball to the hole at the end of the game? Cause I think at this point it has to be Troy. And you let him make the decision, kick to Cobb or Evans, or shoot. Jenifer might be able to handle this at some point but not now, and likely not this year unless you are committed to drive and dish only.

Mick get paid millions to draw up plays. Troy doesn't even need ball in his hands and still take last shots. I'm comfortable now with jenifer closing games with ball in his hands. Everytime I've seen him drive he's finished strong. Haven't seen him drive and dish yet.
