-Said Cobb is a great player bc he puts in so much work. Talked about how determined he was to play at the highest level.
-Said Caupain needs to work on defense and being active with his hands. Also said he needs to get on the same page with him to be the closer down the stretch.
-Said Jenifer had his best game. Said he got in the habit of trying to score so much bc he had to carry the load his SR year of high school. Was more of a true point before that...trying to channel that bc he is a great passer you can't stay in front of.
-Said a lot about Quadri Moore. Said he had his best practice ever yesterday. Said Quadri is hellbent on making this work.
-Said our bench can be a big key for us in conference play.

Wait...really..Mick said Caupain needs to work on his defense???? When I said the same thing yesterday, someone disagreed and said I couldn't lead a pack of pee ants to water. Now the head coach is saying the same thing. I wonder if that person now believes Mick can't lead a pack of pee ants to water? Or, maybe L-T can actually lead a pack of pee ants to water. Or, is it a statement of his own ability to motivate pee ants? I guess I'll just wait for an apology from whoever said it and a clarification as to who he really now believes is the one who struggles with pee ants.

Also glad to see the positive comments on Quadri, JJ, and the bench in general. Looks like he and I, and a few others in here, are on the same page. Those asking for Quadri to transfer and/or never play, might want to rethink that.

Mick get paid millions to draw up plays. Troy doesn't even need ball in his hands and still take last shots. I'm comfortable now with jenifer closing games with ball in his hands. Everytime I've seen him drive he's finished strong. Haven't seen him drive and dish yet.

No way Mick is giving the ball to Jenifer at the end of either half.

Thanks for posting Jacob!! Good stuff.

I would absolutely love it if Quadri decides now he's going to work his butt off the rest of his time here. He's going to be a big plus for us with some hard work and quicker feet.

I agree, but I think he has already been working hard. There had to be a solid reason for us to redshirt T. Scott. You have to assume they were seeing a lot of positives from Quadri. The talent is there. It's a matter of getting in his head and tweaking so that all of him is channeled in the right direction.

And I'm happy we are at this point. When we had that open gym scrimmage, I didn't think Quadri would ever pan out here. What a change.

I was at that scrimmage and he barely played half of it. I thought he was done. A couple weeks later, we're redshirting Scott. I couldn't believe it.

I'm not sure who is "asking" for Q to transfer...but until you fill up your scholarships there is little reason for fans or coaches to wish ANYONE would transfer. That would totally be a player decision to transfer out when the roster is not full. Unless there are attitude issues.

We have 11 guys out of a possible 13. We lose 4 seniors this year which will put us at 7. There is no way in hell we will fill all of those spots and therefore no reason (other than a player decision) to want someone to transfer. As we have found with Q in the last game...he can be very useful in certain situations. The main one being if Ellis and DeBerry are both in foul trouble.

The fact that you and Mick are on the same page just further solidifies the fact that Mick isn't nearly as great as everyone gives him credit for. :D

But, at least he might be able to lead pee ants to water.

My personal belief is he redshirted Scott over moore for two reasons. One it's harder to ask a sophomore to redshirt when he got to play his freshman year and two he'd rather have Scott four years going forward than Moore for three. Either would see backup minutes anyway, at least in theory to start the year behind ellis, Clark and deberry.

Could be that Scott from a small coastal high school had a bigger adjustment to a big urban college and big time college sports.

Either way he looks like he's having a ball on the bench with the team. He and Washington both look they have positive attitudes and are happy to be a Bearcat. Quadri I noticed is even showing some emotion. I see some smiles out of the big guy. This year is going to keep getting better.

I'll run a baseline play for him immediately everytime he enters game. He's no good without any confidence.

When you throw in the option of running small with Thomas...we had plenty of options. Moore wasn't really a good redshirt option for several reasons.

Any highlights from tonight's show?

South Florida was a huge team and they played a zone and shaded towards Cobb. We had to make perimeter shots and really had the lead because Troy hit some threes. Said he was proud of the way the team responded emotionally. Said they were locked in to playing defense. Best defensive rebounding performance of the season against a huge team. They only had 2 offensive rebounds until the final minute of the game.

Talked some about Houston, said we have to do a good job of rebounding because that is where we have have a statistical advantage. Houston is similar to Temple because often have all 5 guys outside the three point line. They don't have a true post up player. This team is much more talented than last year.

Was asked about the Bengals and how he would deal with "hothead" type players. Tuned that part out because I don't care about the Bengals.

Asked about Quadri: Proud of Quadri's development both on and off the floor. He has had a complete attitude change and is the most improved player on the team. Said he deserved to be the first big of the bench of the USF game for his efforts in the SMU game. He will continue to get more minutes as long as he doesn't dribble the ball (LOL).

Asked about Shaq: Said he is very proud of how he's become a better player. His FG% has increased by 10 since last season. He isn't taking those wild, hanging one handed shots anymore. He is much better suited for an open court game and his eyes light up when we start to press. Late in the season you have to rely on your veterans so Shaq will have to play a big role in the last 8 weeks of the season.

Asked about Jenifer: Said he has had a great attitude and had a great game against Tulsa and USF. The size of USF nullified his quickness and couldn't really get to show his skills in the open court because we weren't getting steals when Jenifer was in. Like Shaq, he is best when the tempo is being pushed. Also said "his coach decided not to play him against SMU" kind of in a sarcastic way. I took it as him acknowledging that he should have gotten him some minutes in that one.

Said some guys (like Jenifer and Shaq) are much better in an open court, uptempo game while other guys (didn't name names)are better in a slower half court game. It is his responsibility find a good combination of everything.

Answered a caller saying that people forget that Troy closed out the Nebraska and GW games with the ball in his hand. Also said he got too deep on the drive against SMU when he got his shot blocked. Seemed defensive with this answer...like he was referring to some posters on here..LOL.

Asked about Gary's improvement as a scorer: Said Gary only has 2 ways to score right now, either in the low post or from free throws. He needs to work more with him to expand his game. Great scorers can score in every facet of the game. Would like to see him improve his conditioning. Big men can get 4 points a game just by running the floor. He's a hard worker and is trying to get better.

Asked about recruiting: Always could use another shooter and a big man. Said we are "hot" on a few guys and during the upcoming breaks in scheduling he will be out on the road doing recruiting. We have 3 scholarships but won't use them all. He doesn't like having 13 scholarship players and likes to keep a spot open. Zach Tobler will go on scholarship for the second semester. He kept that slot open during the first semester in case we landed a transfer.

That's all I remember. If anyone else listened feel free to chime in.

Thanks a lot NTS. Appreciate it. I think any UC fan, and one who knows basketball at all, can see a real change in Quad these last couple of games. His effort is something that UC fans are used to. He has been working hard, listening to Mick in practice and his defense and rebounding have greatly improved. I think his offensive game is already good enough--he just needs to realize when to shoot and to be more patient. Excited to see him get a bigger role going forward( which is something I would never think I would say).
