Depends on style of play. This team couldn't press for a number of reasons. You can't play undersized and be successful unless you can dictate the tempo of the game to benefit you. If this team is pressing the entire year, like Mick wants, then the lack of a back to the basket player is not as noticeable. If you can't play up tempo and have to play in the half court, like this year, it becomes extremely important. Mick wants to play up tempo. If he can do that, JJ at the 5 makes perfect sense and can work. Very few teams in college basketball have back to the basket threats in the post. The ones that do tend to lose them to the NBA quickly. The fact that the style in the NBA showcases tall, athletic players with ball skills (think LeBron, Bosh, Durant, Melo, Dirk, etc) and it is obvious why there aren't as many kids coming to the college game playing in the post. They all want to handle the ball, shoot the three and drive to the hoop. You have to make do with what is available and what you have. Pressing is the great equalizer and can win you a National Championship.
