Defens wins Championships. Every coach in America knows this.

As for attendance being tied to his style that is laughable. Fact is attendance for college basketball is down as a whole.

I enjoy the Team. Cronin will Coach here as long as he wants. Making the Dance this year or not will not impact that. He is that good of a Coach and will only get better.

I hope he's here a long time too. But I'd also like to think our program's ceiling is higher than a 5-10 seed and early exit from the tournament. I know I need to be patient. I am relatively happy with the recruiting as of late. Hopefully it translates into some more efficient offense soon, because defense alone does not win championships. At some point, we are going to have to get out of this pattern of stagnant offense if the program is going to go to the next level.

If defense wins championships, and we're routinely at the top of college basketball in defense, then why are we losing to Missouri Valley and Ivy league schools in the 1st round of the NCAA? Is Mick under-achieving?

The truth is that defense doesn't win championships. Defense, when combined with a good offense, wins championships. No team in the history of the game, who executed offense as poorly as we do, has ever won a National championship. "Defense-only" might win you a few battles, but it will never win you the war.

Amen brother.

I would be fine with starting Morman over Shaq. Sanders is already solid in his role and doesn't help us anymore as a starter IMO. Looking ahead, I really hope Evans comes in next year and claims the job and is a stud from the jump, but I hate to put too many expectations on a freshman.

What is Morman true ht- I have heard 6-2 6-3 6-4.

Then you apparently know something alot of great coaches don't. Huggs,Pitino,Coach K and many others have said exactly that.

Com'on Waite, your argument is getting a little ridiculous. They didn't say that they could ignore offense and still win championships. We all know what they meant. Every sport on the planet is about outscoring the opponent. A good balance between offense and defense wins championships. UCONN won 2 championships 53-41 and 60-54, but they had two amazing offensive players...Kemba Walker and Shabazz Napier, plus some other good offensive players like Boatright, Giffey, Daniels, Jeremy Lamb, Oriaki, etc to go with them. If we have one good offensive player a year, we're lucky. We'll never compete for a national title with this stupid philosophy.

A top 30 defense AND a top 30 Defense is what wins championships. There was an article written in 2012 that compiled the NCAA champs from the previous 10 years and only one team fell outside that range - Uconn from 2011. I wish I could find that article so everyone could read it. Defense isn't enough. Every year, UC has excellent defense and we have...a sweet 16 run out of it. Clearly, defense isn't enough.

You need offense and defense to win. If you don't believe me, ask the UC team with a top 10 defense who lost to Creighton 2 years ago. Or the team last year, who couldn't beat a Harvard team that had 5 guys who averaged double figures.

I don't think Mick totally ignores offense. He can choose not to address it publicly, which you may or may not agree with, but that doesn't mean he isn't working on it. He specifically said that after we lost to Harvard, he gave the ok to sign Cobb. And we are working on installing a whole new offensive scheme this year, which also shows Mick is trying to change it. These young guys haven't mastered the college game yet. But the core of these guys like Caupain, KJ, Cobb, Shaq, Clark, Moore, and aEllis are going to be playing 70-100+ games together and we are 6 games into that. I agree with NTS that if we are playing like this in February then it may be time for concern. I know you want deep tournament runs, but focus on one game at a time. All we can do today is find a way to beat Stony Brook.

I would buy your argument except for the fact that someone attached a recent game press conference video the other day which had Farad Cobb essentially stating, "that all we do in practice is work on defense". Kevin Johnson was sitting with him and didn't disagree. So yes, you would normally believe there must be some time spent on offense, but when the players say differently, the assumption is thrown out the window and you have to go with the facts.

But hey, you watch the games just like I do. Do you really need Farad Cobb to tell you they only work on defense. Isn't it evident?

Take it for what it's worth but Chad said that this was 1000% wrong and they work on offense (post #181 in Old Miss thread)...

Two polar opposite statements

Two team members versus one non-team member. The video was introduced after Chad's statement, and he never came back with a counter. Got to go with the players on this one.

I'm staying home tonight and it has nothing to do with style. It's cold and I'm more comfortable watching on my flat screen. Plus with Xmas around the corner it is a economic issue as well. Falls under the category of a no brainer.folks the casual fan has decided it is far more cost efficient to watch on TV.simple as that.

Do you really think that Cobb is being literal??? Of course not. They would not be able to run an offense if they didn't practice it.

Cobb is exaggerating because they FOCUS on D extensively and he's not use to it.

Cobb has only been here a short time. In the beginning of the season Cronin would rather you have the defense down first before turning to finesse stuff. I remember toward the end of last year Cronin mentioned that the kids knew the defense so they worked on things like FT's and shooting etc.

Do I think he needs to adjust his philosophy slightly if he wants to win championships? Yes.

I think your own statement says it all. I don't need to respond.

I've sat through several 2.5-3 hour practices in the past month that have been focused entirely on offense. How about you???

if he wants to win Championships he well need to recruit better players. Are you trying to tell me another coach could have won with the talent he has had since he has been here. John Wooden couldn't. A coaches ability to win is tied to the players he is able to recruit. Mick gets the most out of his talent but his rosters are not Championship caliber. can elevate his reputation which will enable him to get the best talent remains to be seen. Calipari gets nothing but 5 stars. He may get upset or out coached on occasion but he is never out recruited.

So UConn had two amazing offensive players and other good ones and only score 53 and 60 to win championships?
