UC at Memphis

Key stat: the Bearcats are sixth in defensive turnover rate and the Tigers are 111th in offensive turnover rate, per Ken Pomeroy. Could be huge.

I think SK will step up this game and start hitting his shots, and JJ will continue the way he has been playing lately and I think the Cats will force enough turnovers for them to win. But it will be very tough and it will be close throughout the game.

Five games I'll be watching this weekend...
Cincinnati at Memphis, Saturday

The Bearcats looked razor sharp in a quality win over SMU on Wednesday night but the bar will be significantly raised on the road against the Tigers. Memphis has four veteran guards and the type of backcourt experience that can handle Cincinnati's relentless full-court pressure. A new year brings new conferences and these two old Conference USA rivals should definitely be two of the top teams in the AAC for a long time to come.

If we can turn them over enough, I think we have a shot. I still don't believe Pastner knows how to coach and I wouldn't count on him making adjustments.

Surprisingly Memphis is a poor defensive rebounding team. UC is pretty elite at offensive rebounding so maybe we can get a big edge there for some easy points.

Memphis is probably the most talented and athletic team we will face all year outside of Louisville, so this is a huge challenge.

Memphis also loves to run and push the ball so transition D is critical. In addition it is safe to conclude that if we play a half court game against a team like this today that we are not an up tempo team.

I am guessing with 4 guards and their propensity to run up tempo that we don't run the press today and try to slow it down?

i think this is going to be a good game and a good game to watch. Think Rubles and Sk are going to come up big but we need that 3rd. KJ could surprise today. It seems this is the kind of game that suits him.

Line opened at Memphis -6.5 and has been bet to Memphis -5. That is good news. Gonna be tough regardless though.

So SK is off to his normal start...how long before he realizes he needs to get to the basket and get fouled?!

Also does anyone else think SK has been practicing his Euro step? Past few games he's getting called for it 2-3 times a game.

You can't give up lay-ups and dunks when it is so hard for your own team to score. UC is in it because of 2 three's but the game will be blown open in short order...
