Who takes the last second shot

Now that Bishop has been officially reinstated, and the roster is complete for this year, I thought we could start a new topic. When the Cats have the ball at the end of the half, or more mportantly at the end of a close game, who would take the last shot. Last year it was Stephenson, as he could create his own shot and get into the lane to get fouled, and in previous years Vaughn, and of course both are gone. I don't think there is anyone on this team who could consistently create his own shot, thus I think the ball will be in Cash's hands to penetrate and either take the shot or dish to an open teammate to take the last shot. Or it may be by committee and the guy with the hot hand for that game may be the player taking the last shot. Any thoughts?

I'm hoping that Cash is the answer when the shot clock/game clock gets low.

I think we'll see a ton of Thomas and Cash pick n' roll/pick n' pop near the end of clocks.

BA1 I believe Cash will be much improved this season and we know he can get to the basket and at least draw defenders. Another year of strength training should help him be a more polished finisher. This team will spread the offense literally and productivity wise. It may depend on the night who shoots the shot. Rashad Bishop is going to be an X factor this season in my opinion. How agressive will he be? This team will need points from the SF position. From whoever is playing there. They are going to throw the ball in to Yancy and allow him to pass back out. We will see more attacking from the wings as well. One last thing. Thomas, Bishop, or Wilks needs to be able to hit the 15 foot and in jumper. This team won't be a great 3 point shooting team but could be adequate with space.

Being 100% honest, they would probably either turn the ball over, take a desperation 3, or take a terrible desperation shot and have a rebound and second chance with either thomas or gates.

I think you'll see a team that moves the ball much better, shares it better, and runs the break better.

Shouldn't you be over at that over Bearcat forum, BCN? :D

I'm not sure who takes the last shot... and that's one of several things Mick and the team will have to feel out through what is a relatively soft OOC schedule... the question with Cash is, with another year of rehab and strength training under his belt, will he be able to finish when he gets to the basket? Getting there has never been a problem.

Justin Jackson been cleared yet, btw?

This is an interesting topic, and an exciting one because I am anxious for basketball to start. I agree with a lot of you when saying that the ball movement should be better this year. I would argue also that this team, at least on paper, should be quicker this year as well. With that said, hopefully Cash will be able to penetrate and dish, or even finish as the year goes on and he matures and gets more comfortable. As for the SF position, I have been saying for the longest time that Wilks should be playing the 3 position. His skill set is very similar to James White and Wilks showed last year that he was shooting better beyond the arc. He too could be a weapon in the last seconds. I think the darkhorse for the last second shot could be Kilpatrick. Cronin has raved about his tenacity and his passion to win (like Stephenson). Remember Kilpatrick is from the Jersey/NY area, and those players always seem to want the ball in the last moments. UC had another NY player that was not afraid to take the clutch shot (Satterfield), maybe Kilpatrick will be our guy.
Great Topic!
Go Bearcats!

Wilks will play the 3 against some teams. He doesn't value the ball nor have the handle to play against good man or press teams. Darnell is a good passer when he doesn't force the ball. With the thin frontline, in terms of experience, he will have to play some at the 4.

Personally I hope it's SK. That would mean he is a good as advertised. And I don't have a lot of confidence in the other guys. I do agree that Cash is the next best option due to his ability to get to the rim.

Not really sure there is another option at this point. I'd put most of the team in the No Way column...including Bishop.

I think this team will play as a team with Cash at the reigns and I believe a last second shot scenario will mimic this. I think the #1 option will be Cash will get the ball and they will try to set screens to give him a lane or an open shot. In last-second situations coaches don't like passing the ball too much. Too easy to create a turnover, especially when refs like to swallow the whistle in the last minute. Second option will be to run a play to get Gates/Thomas the ball down low or see if they can get a shooter open (assuming someone emerges as a consistent shooter). I think Mick will have several designs in mind and will run whichever one seems best for the defensive matchup.
