Drummond has said that's he going to return next year and Oriakhi will be back, so Mick can sell Obekpa on playing time. He can also sell the fact that UConn has a lot more big men on their list (Jefferson, Parker, Goodman, Gathers), while he's probably the #1 target for UC.

Excellent points.

I will be surprised if Drummond actually ends up staying. Nearly every reputable mock draft has him going as the 1st or 2nd pick, I think he would be dumb to stay.

We now have three head coaches in the building for Chris Obekpa. To go with Cronin and Lavin, Connecticut's Jim Calhoun is here.

A strong team effort by Our Savior New American was too much for a young Mount Saint Joseph team. As far as prospects are concerned, 6-foot-8 Christopher Obekpa stood well above the crowd.

Despite playing sick, Obekpa dominated inside grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking eight shots. To go along with his length and athleticism, Obekpa has a knack for rebounding outside of his area.

Offensively, he is still raw (scored 10 points on 4-of-16 shooting from the field), but his jumper doesn't look bad and he has the plenty of potential.

Plenty of schools would love the opportunity to develop Obekpa. Head coaches Jim Calhoun, Steve Lavin and Mick Cronin were on hand to watch him play. A number of other schools are also pursuing him.

UC seems to go up against UConn often for the same recruits, Thebeat and Walker are the 2 biggies that come to mind immediately. UC has finished second to UConn in both of these recruiting battles. Is Calhoun cheeting?

If we can secure him and Titus while adding redshirts Thomas and Ellis we will be scary good next year. Davis,Guyn and Sanders have all showed flashes. Add another step forward for Modj and Gaines and we will be extremely deep and talented.

If it is between us and UCONN I hope we catch the break this time. It would only be fair after they got Kemba. Unfortunately life isn't always fair. Is your view that Titus is still a good possibility for us?

Jeff, What is yor opinion on Ellis? According to MC he is contiuing to grow. Could be a 7ft'er before long. Watched some of his High School highlights during signing period and he looks quite a bit more like a basketball player than Gaines or even Modj. A year in the system and a year in the weight room and he could really surprise some people. In the short time he played this year he was at least as impresssive as the other frosh. Really think he could be good next year.

If he grows 4 inches from being on campus that would be scary.

I like Ellis. I hope they definitely redshirt him.

I think Titus is a very good possibility and a great fit. (to answer your earlier question).

Ellis is a one time top 135 player. He has some perimeter and ball skills and is athletic which will make him a match up problem. He also has great length and the added height will only enhance this. Physically he has to get stronger. There's no question about that. If he can get to the 235-240 range he could be a load.

His major issue has always been himself. Keeping his cool and not allowing himself to be distracted by his emotions. He has had a hard life. If he can concentrate on that area and be consistent with his work ethic (another flaw in the past) I think he has potential to be very good.

Just imagine if everything fell right. Obekpa, Rubles, Ellis, Jackson, Gaines, and Mbodji. That is stellar athleticism in the post.

Thanks for the info Jeff. From what I've read you seem right on target about Ellis. Hopefully he is learning to channel and control those emotions. I hope him and Thomas are spending a good deal of time in the weight room.

Another bright light in a bad situation could be the counselling MC has referred to for some of the guys after the X game could be paying dividends for Ellis. The team is playing better and it could be the recipients of the suspenions are growing individually as well. Time will tell. The players and the Coach certainly appear to have turned a negative experience into a positive up to this point. Isn't that what life is al about. Learning form our misstakes.
