I still hope we can land Bragg but it will be interesting to see what happens between guys like Scott, Diarra, and Nsoseme. They all seem to be similar players in that they are high energy athletic guys with not a lot of polished offensive moves between them. A little but not a lot. All seem to be capable defenders and rebounders.

Nsoseme is very raw but has good leadership qualities and determination. In a short time playing BB he has picked up a lot. With his drive I could see him continuing to work the hardest in the off season to improve his game. I like that he is the only lefty in this bunch. Most room for improvement but that is understandable. With the Diarra pickup I could see a redshirt here if...IF...we want to keep him on the roster for 5 years. Almost no go to moves other than put backs and dunks right now. A good guy to have on the bench for foul trouble if nothing else develops.

Scott has already had 2 years in the system and his shooting touch isn't bad but he needs to work on getting some loft on the outside shot or figuring out a post move and developing ball skills. His handles are better than Eliel but if he doesn't want to get lost in the shuffle he needs to add something to his game.

Diarra seems like a beast from the videos with a lot of confidence and probably the best overall skill set to play the stretch 4. Looks like he has a decent drop step from the block as well. Not bad handles. I see his potential right now as better than the other two in D1. The fact that we were still recruiting him says a lot about what the coaches think about his potential.

After next year I could see Brooks at the 5 and Diarra at the 4. I would almost rather redshirt Diarra than Nsoseme to get the max years out of him. If we can land Bragg that would be great for depth and offense but I like this kid a lot more after finally watching some mix tapes.

Why would we redshirt Diarra if you want him to start when Clark leaves? Also, I'm sure if redshirting was a possibility, he would've gone somewhere else.

Yeah, I'd say Nsoseme seems like a more likely redshirt. He's only been playing basketball for a few years, right? Redshirts should be going to the most raw players.

vids of Diarra

Where can i find some tape of his game? Seems like all the video I can find on Diarra are on the Diarra who committed to then decomitted from UCONN. I can't tell but it seems like the websites who were crystal balling him listed UC, UCONN, and Washington so I'm assuming they were confusing the two players with the same last name.

frontline after Clark and Washington leave

I hope Mick knows something we don't because Scott, Brooks, Eli, seem to have very limited offensive skills. Is Diarra very skilled offensively? Will we have a low post player with offensive skills or are we going to be strictly a jump shooting team?

Just watched a couple videos of him on Youtube. Sure, he's not incredibly seasoned on offense, but he's still definitely got some post moves. Not sure where the people saying he has nothing to offer on offense are getting that. Looks like he hits a few jumpers, too. Appears to be pretty versatile. Glad we got him.

Diarra is a good get. Is he going to be the offensive threat that Clark, Evan, Cumberland, and Williams (hopefully) were right off the bat? Probably not, but he has some talent and some touch. If we are going to skepticism on any recruit that we got it should be Nsoseme. We just have to trust the coaching staff with the development of these guys. If Bragg doesn't workout, hopefully we will get a more offensive big guy for 2018.

This. I don't think we really can at this point, but I'd be all for letting Nsoseme walk if we were to land Bragg (and couldn't get Quad to transfer). I trust the staff, but the lack of info out there on Nsoseme is kind of scary. The only thing I remember about Nsoseme's recruitment is that Georgia Tech was kind of interested. He appears to be a huge mystery, and guys like that flat-out don't pan out often.

I don't understand the need to break down our recruits before we have seen them play a game. I also don't understand why everyone wants to red shirt all these players. Sometimes, there is a reason to do it (SK for example). Most times, red shirting a player just takes up a scholarship for another year and unless there is a benefit to the program and player, it isn't going to happen. I am not a fan of red shirting players by rule unless there is an injury. Mamoudou didn't come here to red shirt and I'm sure he will have an opportunity to play a role on the team in 2017. The more competition for playing time, the better in my opinion.

I look forward to seeing what Mamoudou can do and what skills he brings to the table. This is a nice class of talented, athletic and long players with specific skill sets. Should be a fun fall as the season gets kicked off.

Well, this is a UC forum, so I think it makes perfect sense to break down recruits. What would you rather discuss? What is the point in all these threads for recruits if we can break them down?

As for the redshirting thing, I think it makes sense if you have an abundance of guys at the same position. For instance, if we don't redshirt anyone, we've got Washington, Clark, Brooks, Scott, Quadri, Nsoseme, and Diarra for two positions. Why would we need all that? I think it makes more sense to redshirt whoever is the most raw, so they can take a year to prepare, then get a little more playing time the following year. No team actually goes 13 deep.

For the same reason we redshirted SK. He wasn't going to get much playing time as a frosh but we wanted to maximize his usage for 4 years. I like the idea of red shirting the more talented players who really have no chance of starting because we already have their position filled. As opposed to red shirting guys who are projects and wrapping up 5 years of schollies on a coin flip.

I also don't think red shirt comes up much in the recruiting process a whole lot but I could be wrong. If you want to land a player I don't think you start talking about red shirt. As I understand it is a player decision...perhaps with some guidance by the coach.

Do we still have room for Bragg? I thought Diarra used the last scholarship available.

I think we are at the limit which would mean landing Bragg would mean someone has decided to leave or we get very creative...lol!

and your leading scorer for the season and NCAA POY. Cincinnati Walk-On...Kyle Washington. haha

Oh and another reason...because we will have 7 bigs on the roster. 2 of which are going to get the lion's share of the minutes. Why would you want to compete with 4 other bigs for scraps when you can red shirt and probably get significant minutes all 4 of your years?

Cronin loves to use that red shirt I can only think of a couple of years since he's had an actual team that he didn't use red shirts. This year I guarantee someone will red-shirt all signs point to nsoseme imo.

If mick thought he was all Set at the pf position why would he get another last minute commitment out of diarra, that tells me he is suspect with tre Scott and Nsoseme taking over the humongous hole that Losing Gary Clark will have.

unless there is tremendous growth and development of Eli, Brooks, Scott, and Eli, Diarra, we'll lose a great deal of scoring from our front line. And I keep seeing many of the offers we're giving to two star prospects. Not sure why we are still recruiting players who are "projects". According to one website I read this morning, this is Mick's worst class since 2012. After winning 30 games, it should be his best. X has the 11th ranked recruiting class in the nation.
