2017-18 Stats/Rankings

Help Support BearcatTalk:

ESPN just came out with a list based on the BPI ranking top ten teams with the greatest chance to cut down the nets this year. Bearcats came in at 7th..

Here's the whole list

1. Villanova
2. Purdue
3. Virginia
4. Duke
5. Michigan State
6. Kansas
7. Cincinnati
8. Gonazaga
9. Texas Tech
10. Wichita State

I know this is statistical rankings, but perception about the cats in general seems to really being changing. People are starting to talk about how good we are as a two way team, on top of our staggering defense we've always had. Love to see little things like this

I have a UC 85/1 bet pending from before the year. I should be able to make some money off of that. Lots of wiggle room with those odds.

Arizona St falls to Oregon, same week Seton Hall who is a head of us has lost big. Also a small chance we pass Texas Tech as well as they lost to top 10 Oklahoma, then there is Xavier.

Net, outside chance to be #10 in the country!

Wouldn't call it outside at this point lol. Still got a couple more possible games to go our way and think we are pretty much in already so one more stumble and it's a guarantee

Best conference race
Wichita State/Cincinnati for the American

Circle these two dates: Feb. 18 at Cincinnati, 4 p.m., ET, ESPN; March 4 at Wichita State, 12 p.m., ET, CBS.
This is the new rivalry in the AAC and it could end up being one of the best in the sport. Intense.
Just like the old days in the Missouri Valley

Would be really nice if we can both make it to that first WSU game with 1 loss or less added to our resumes. I would think that would be a top 10 matchup.

@EnthusiAdams
UC's Jacob Evans, Gary Clark, and Villanova’s Mikal Bridges are the only D-I players this season to average at least 12 PPG, shoot better than 48% from field, 37% from 3, 73% from free throw line, average 4 rebounds per game, and have at least 19 blocks, 20 steals and 32 assists. https://t.co/fNGdaEsjHC

although it only lasted for 1 game cause Gary attempted another 3. he's now at 34.6% from 3.

I just submitted the first Draft of my official ballot for the Reddit Poll.

I may have some minor tweaks here and there but this is mostly what i'll be submitting, with the assumption that Virginia and OSU win.

  1. Villanova: Clearly the best team in basketball and it might not even be close
  2. Virginia: I would have never gussed they'd be ranked this high
  3. Purdue: They looked weak in the early season, but can't deny them now
  4. Wichita State: Escaped tulsa with a win and seem to be rolling and healthy
  5. Oklahoma: Trae Young is a god damn beast, POY hands down
  6. Duke: Their defense sucks, and it will cause slip ups, but playing better
  7. West Virginia: I won't punish WVU too much for losing a close one on the road
  8. Texas Tech: Would be top had they won both games this week
  9. Kansas: The Jayhawks are getting help and should continue to get better
  10. Cincinnati: Elite Defense. Gary Clark shagged your mom bee itch
  11. Xavier: 20 point loss followed by 20 point win, equals not much movement
  12. Michigan State: All the sudden looks beatable. Resume wise, they don't have a bunch of great wins
  13. Gonzaga: They will roll through their shitty conference but they are good none the less
  14. Kentucky: Beat a struggling A&M team and followed it up with a nice road win.
  15. Auburn: Continue to be one of the more surprising teams in CBB. 1st in SEC
  16. Arizona: Consistently inconsistent but uber talented. Will be underseeded come march
  17. Tennessee: Didn't lose in a weak where a lot of teams did
  18. Ohio State: Oh Snap, Holtman is an elite coach. KBD is a POY canidate
  19. Arizona State: Fell way back to earth. Advancing scout can make or break teams
  20. Seton Hall: Lost by 20 points to Marquette.
  21. Michigan: Huge win over @mich State
  22. Clemson: Lost this week but so do everyone else.
  23. TCU: Lost 2 games this week but both away against top 10 teams, played well in both
  24. Rhode Island: 8 straight wins for the rams.
  25. St Marys: This last spot was tough to fill. no one sticks out. And ST Marys has played a cake schedule so I chose to go with top 20 kenpom team

I think we are better than KU this year. We would destroy them down low and on the boards. But I guess if you do a poll like this by resume I could see them being ahead.

I think we would beat Kansas as well. It’s just they have had more chances to prove themselves.

Where did you have WVU before? 7 is WAY too low for them

I just kinda go off resume. I rewarded wvu last week for holding such a long winning streak and they were #2 or #3, but when they lost, it puts them on more equal footing with teams in front of them. So I use resume (tend to focus on top 100 wins) and then kenpom.

I voted the following teams ahead for the following reasons:
Nova: bc they’re the best
Virginia: bc they are on a nice winning streak #3 in kp too
Purdue: #2 in kenpom, 9 top 100 wins
Wichita state: most questionable of the bunch, but they won this week
Oklahoma: 8 top 100 wins & undefeated week
Duke: #4 in kp , 7 top 100 wins

West Virginia is 10th in KP and has 7 top 100 wins and lost this week.

The only one I’d probably considering moving would be Wichita state down two spots and West Virginia one spot above them.
