Big East expanding

Great One the Big East is far from done. Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State are all going to leave the Big 12, it is only a matter of when. UC, UofL, and WVU are not interested in buying a ticket to a ride on the Titanic. The Big East will be able to add Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State when the Big 12 implodes.

So then using this illustration you are defintely saying UC needs to get out of the Big East. right?

Mike Brey: “Everybody else has been dancing and datin’ and sneakin’ around…so I feel that was a little bit of a cheap shot. But you know, there’s a lot of cheap shots going around right now.”

“We’ve got to have Plan B in order because there’s days, like [Thursday], that this doesn’t look very good and we know that the rest of our [Big East] football programs are trying to get our right now,” he said. “If they can’t get out, then maybe we can keep this thing going. If they get out, though, then we gotta start looking at other options.”

No, I am saying leaving the Big East would be a really dumb thing to do. Fortunately, the UC administration knows that.

Yes, currently leaving the BE would be a dumb thing to do. Only because their options as of now would be to go to a non AQ league (C-USA) or becoming independent. If ANY AQ league offerred an invitation, UC would be stupid not to jump at it. Same goes for UL, WVU, RU, UConn, and USF. If you don't think this is the case, then YOU are plain dumb. And please stop saying that the BE is an AQ league, as this will come to an end in 2 years.

The Big 12 is a sinking ship, everyone with a brain knows Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State are going to eventually leave the Big 12. Joining the Big 12 would have been a very dumb thing to do. Now if the ACC or SEC or Big 10 call that is a different story.

The Big East is going to keep its AQ status, the BCS wants to keep the New York TV market interested and Congress off of their backs.

Ralph, I commend you on going down with your ship (Big East). But you really should start looking for a life boat, captain.

Why do you think Big East keeps its AQ status? The BCS is talking about changing the two team per conference max (as early as next year)--they have no need for a 6th AQ conference...especially one as horrible as the projected Big East.

The BCS has a big need to keep the AQ's at 6 to prevent Congress from enacting anti-trust legislation against the BCS.

I find it hard to believe that the Big East is what is keeping the New York tv market interested. I really don't think they would be worried that they would lose the New York market if the Big East was no longer a BCS aq.

Big East has all major Northeast markets. Tons of tv sets. IF they keep all current 6 schools I would be surprised if they lost the AQ. I think keeping the schools is much much easier said than done.

I know, but it's not like they would stop watching college football because BE lost it's aq status.

Arkelpane just interviewed on Channel 12 news once again stated UC wants to stay in Big East.

UC's options are going to be limited due to it's lack of revenue. A move to the BIG 12, if invited, would be the smart thing to do, but Louisville and WVU (and perhaps BYU) are all ahead of them in the pecking order.

The Big East got caught napping and has paid the price. If Missouri leaves the Big 12 the price will be even greater when Louisville and WVU walk. UConn and Rutgers both are actively trying to get out and the ACC openly convets Notre Dame.

The situation within this league is so bad that that the service academies aren't sure they want to join anymore with all the uncertainty. ECU, CFU, who? Poor replacements for what's lost. The league should be looking at Temple who adds something more solid in football and basketball as well as name recognition. Memphis is down in football but bouys your basketball side of thing.

The only certainty about this situation is that the Big East won't be so big anymore. Call it the Little East, the Big Least or CUSA 2 or whatever you like, but it will no longer be the league UC fans have grown accustomed to.

Some time over the next two years all the schools will be leaving, known and unknown, and the league will be left holding a half empty bag. Basketball still has a chance to be relevant but football is toast and will likely lose their BCS invite. It is a sorry scenario for a league that was so celebrated over the past 5 years.

How this happened is inexcusable. The league was complacent and the expansion machine they started ate them alive. They ignored the football television trend, failed to expand it's football base, and at some point may be left with a basketball only league. It's a sad ending that isn't over yet.

Moving to the Big 12 would have been a dumb thing to do, which is why UC rejected it. Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State are going to leave the Big 12. The Big 12 is going to consist of Rice, SMU, Houston, Tulane, etc. In a few years.

Never seen this, any proof?
