Deveroes Summer League

Why dont you look at his high school stats before you comment, thats what he does best he is a rebounding guard you know nothing about recruiting you get a grip.

You're pointing to his stats in a Deveroes League game and telling everyone to say hello to our starting PG. You made no mention of his HS stats in your original post. I repeat again, get a grip.

Starting spots on UC's team will not be won or lost in the freaking Deveroes League. Every year people get hyped up about how guys play in this league. It means nothing.

I've said since my very first post on here Caupain will be the starting point guard the Deveroes league only backs up what I've been sayin about him. And I know everything about him your the one that needs to do more reseach on recruits in high school. He is 10 times better than Guyn in every facet of the game but we will see who is right come game 1 and you will look stupid.

We're taking our message board dancing a little too seriously.
I agree with the Cam Newton remark. I think what catches my eye most about the kid is that he can get to the basket and finish. How many times after Cash went down last season, did we miss that guy who could turn the corner on people?
I think these guards are fairly good. Maybe better than the last group when they got here.
That said, I still need to see them go up against a high caliber defense before I can validate that assessment. They're not battle tested but I do think they play with a lot of maturity. Morman and Caupain especially, though I like Johnson's resolve as well.

You know everything about him??? That's kind of scary/creepy. I'm not going to argue that you know more than I do, I'm sure you're right. Just simply pointing out that the Deveroes league means nothing but if you've got other reasons to believe that this kid is the truth then more power to you.

Keep on creeping on brother.

I think its's funny that anyone believes Guyn showed enough last year to be handed the PG job.

Personally I think if a freshman isn't starting at PG in Game 1, they will be shortly after that.

I haven't seen anyone say Guyn should be handed the job. At the same time, a freshman is not going to be handed the job either. Caupain will have to earn it if he wants to start from day 1. Guyn has 2 years of D1 basketball experience. By default, he has the upper hand going into practice. We will have to see how both players perform in the fall.

I think it's funny that anyone would believe this team is going to be good this season. We have no PG and no C and we're going to be relying heavily on a lot of young, unproven players. I expect Lawrence to be good but it's not like this kid was a top 5 recruit or a for sure 1 and done type player. We'll be extremely fortunate if he can contribute anything close to what Lance did when he was here and Lance had a much better supporting cast. Our only proven commodity coming back is SK, and while he may be good, everyone else on this roster is suspect is some way or another.

On the same line of arguing, I think it is funny that many can say that Guyn can't handle it based on his limited playing time. He hasn't really had a shot and no matter how good he could be he was not going to get a lot of time behind Cash, Parker and SK.

I don't know how Guyn will turn out, but I sure don't have enough "data" to feel confident predicting either way.

I don't expect them to be any better than last year. In fact, for the first time in 3 years, I have my doubts about if this is a tournament team. I see them as a bubble team... if they can sneak 2 or 3 wins out of UConn, Louisville, Memphis, and Temple, they will probably get in. If not, the rest of the conference schedule won't be enough to get them over the bubble.

my opinion is Guyn is nothing more than a role player. If team is rebuilding it makes sense to go with players with highest ceiling. That means Caupain runs PG. Guyn is not the future of this team. Not even close. This team will be young and athletic. Thomas,Caupain,Lawrence,Morman and Johnson are all young athletic players who will provide good moments and experience growing pains. How they progress throughout season will determine how much success the team has. Sitting them behind guys who are not starting caliber players based on what returnees have shown to this point is not wise. This is the best class Mick has recruited and they will define rather or not the program is back to the good old days. SK starts with Thomas at other wing. The remaining spots are up for grabs. My sense is Nyarsuk, Caupain and Rubles round out starting 5. Lawrence gets plenty of minutes between 4 and 5 with the rest filling back up roles.

Why can this team be good, there are plenty of good pieces, Mick just have to find the ones that fit. The offense can't be any worse and I know that they will play good defense, it is a Mick Cronin team. The youth and inexperience will hurt a little, but I think the offensive ability and the fact that there are still plenty of veterans will outweigh it. I really don't know how the team will do, but to say either way at this point is dumb. There are too many variables to make an accurate prediction....

Anything can happen, I wouldn't come out and say for certain they aren't going to be good. The talent and upside is certainly there with some of these guys and if things click it could be a nice season. I just don't see that as the most likely outcome.

If I was a betting man (which I am) I'd say this team is going to wind up the season a few games over .500, outside the NCAA and the NIT.

I wish they still made college basketball games for playstation/xbox. Because even if the team wasnt good, I could still go to the game and change that. The Cats took the National Championship 6+ years in a row.

What makes me hopeful is that this this freshman class should come in as the most skilled Mick has recruited. There will be some exciting moments for sure mixed in with many growing pains that young players tend provide. I'm curious who takes the reins as the team leader and hopeful to see improvement from the core of older players like SK, Jackson, Rubles, and Thomas. Playing in the AAC should make wins a little easier to come by than the old Big East.

I was in the middle of making a similar point when connection was lost. To be as good as or better than last year we will need some progress from veterans. I am not expecting BIG improvements from guys like JJ, JS, TR, DN, and SK. I do like the potential of JDIII and ST to make that type of "Significant Impactful Improvement".

The problem with even the most talented frosh is going to be inconsistency and being lost at times. We need the vets to provide the core chemistry and the frosh to be put in comfortable situations. Expecting leadership and game control from the frosh is a bit of a reach although not impossible.

We need a significant improvement at PG compared to what GG was able to offer last year. I don't care if that is GG, TC, KJ, or JDIII. We need someone to step up at C and I don't care if that is JJ, DN, JS, or JL. We need some sort of offensive presence down there with adequate D. I think we will be fine (if not above average) from the 2-4 positions with all the options we will have available.

Even if we don't have a successful NCAA tourney type season...I am still excited about the core we have with this incoming class. If we can get 2 solid bigs in 2014 I will be really stoked about the next 3-4 years.

The leader of this team is SK (hence the nickname "Cap"). I don't see leadership being an issue. When your best player is also your hardest working, leadership is never an issue.

The team made the tourney last year and we were in a very tough conference, didn't have Cash for many of our important games, and had to deal with inconsistency from virtually all of the team. I think this team could yield similar results to that of last years team. I don't think it is crazy to assume that SK will be better, a few of the other returnees will be much better, and a frosh or two will be good contributors. I think we make a tourney appearance with a similar record to this past years team....
