Dude they're 18 and had no ideal what a college level conditioning program is like. I'm sure they had the best of intentions. Stop taking it so personal geesh.
I mean if they can't get a ride they cant get a ride. There isnt exactly a huge crowd of people these kids can call who want to be their bitch and drive them around. If Jermaine LAwrence called me and asked for a ride he would have to pay me or do something to get me to move.
I bet out of the 5 of them, 1 of them has to have a car. Even if there wasn't, there are plenty of people they could receive rides from. If they can't consistently get rides, then they shouldn't sign up in the first place.
I don't know if things have changed but when I was at UC, freshmen living in the dorms were not allowed to have cars on campus.

I went there yesterday and thought they weren't going to show up. I didn't really care if they come are not because it is the summer league. They don't play that hard either. LOL. All the Xavier players don't show up all the time. I rather see them in a real game besides the summer league. GO Cats!
How do you know he was driving? His parents could have been dropping him off like thousands of other freshmen? Also they pay nothing to go to school. You still are making assumptions about their situations and their families. I just feel many of you here are really overreacting. It is not a UC sanctioned event, they frankly dont owe anything to the fans in the off season. Im worried about them improving their game, doing well in school and most importantly getting comfortable in their surroundings at UC and Cincinnati. They missed a summer league game and upset some people. Those who went and paid their 3 bucks to charity that didnt see them play have a reason to be upset. I just am uncomfortable watching a portion of the fan base just rip them to shreds for missing 1 summer league game. If they just blew it off (Which we dont if they did) then that was a poor decision in judgement. They are kids. It probably wont be the last time they do something immature. But some on here saying they have no character and one saying to go "eff" themselves lacks, in my opinion, serious perspective. Thats the last thing ill say about the incident. Happy to have them, hope this doesnt happen again, and look forward to their contributions to next years team.
If all the Xavier players jumped off a bridge, does that mean UC players should too? Gotta have some class and respect for the game......
I sat close to Caupain's mother yesterday and Aunt (I'm assuming). And Lawrence also walked in with a couple of adults. I'm guessing that's how they got there yesterday. Strickland was in Cali before he came and Morman flew in. I'm guessing the only one with car access is Johnson.
I also wonder if they even ask any of the guys if they want to play in the league? The only player that I can remember recently who hasn't been on a roster is SK because he plays in the league in NY. And cash didn't play cause of his knee. But I almost get the sense they just put you on a roster without asking, and if you show up you show up, if not then so be it.
Listen, I'd be upset too if I was there today, but to come on this forum and publicly blast them and calling them names is beyond immature. I've heard and seen nothing but good things about the quality of kids each one is.
Kids tweeting they're sore doesn't bother me at all - I actually like it. I'm sure there have been kids 5-6 years ago that've missed DSL games because they were sore but we didn't know about it because twitter and Facebook weren't as popular. And I sure has hell wouldn't want a kid playing on a tired, worn out body if it means risking an injury.
It is just immaturity. Excuses are like assholes, everyone has one. Stuff like separates players who actually care about the sport and the ones who just play to groom their egos......

HAHAHA, what? You know you've got no life when you bitch and whine about kids not showing up to a summer league game. For a brief moment I had forgotten why this board was so worthless (except for the great recruiting info from Jeff and Jack). Thanks for reminding me.
I'm sure they ask the kids if they want to play, it is voluntary and you can't force somebody to do something that is voluntary. If they are sore, I agree, they shouldn't play, but make sure you tell someone before you don't show. You mentioned adults, a Mom and an Aunt, and KJ with a car. I'm sure that the adults, Mom and Aunt have access to a car.

Plus, even if KJ is the only one with a car, they all live on campus-cars usually fit at least 5 people, so even if that was it (which it probably wasn't), they have no excuse. I'm sure they are good kids, but first impressions are huge. You made a commitment and then blew it off without warning, that is not getting things off to a good start. In the future, it would be polite if they would tell people if they were going to skip, that's all Im saying.......
First impressions? No one will remember in October that the kids skipped one summer league game. If they do remember and still hold a grudge then they are the ones that have the "character" problem. Just truly amazed at not only the level outrage but the venom being tossed at our guys.
