BN sorry for the confusion. I thought I saw something showing a increase on Lance McAlister's blog. I can't find it so I'll trust your info. Thanks.

No sweat. When you said there was an increase I started to not trust my memory, so I re-checked and did the math, just to be safe.

I love 5/3, no need for a new arena. But heres some ideas to make the expience at 5/3 better:
1) get a strobe light, and turn off the lights when announcing our players ( my brother was at the Louisville game and said they did it and it was really cool
2) make it a tradition for everyone (even the old men in the middle) to stand cheering from tip off to first made basket, and during the last 2 minutes of each half
3) it would be cool to move the students to the side, making those chairbacks bleacher seats and make where the old student section was chairbacks, but that will never
happen
4) for the garbage ooc games make the upper section 4 corners tickets $1. no one buys those for those games anyway, so u might as well do it, theyd make money on concessions from them as well, and create a louder gym

Does not even scratch the surface of improving the experience. New arena is an absolute necessity to move the program forward.

No it's not a necessity, little things like I just said are enough. Go to the game Saturday, it will be loud as can be, where getting recruits, playing top ten ball, filling up the stadium again. Fifth third stays, little updates are all needed, moving it down town is a terrible idea. Again I love 5/3

Unfortunately, I'd have to believe your in the minority. Any arena is loud if you fill it up. NKU can fill there's and it will be loud. Doesn't mean Coach Bezold can attract the best Center in the nation. Recruits don't care about the fan experience only we do. Mick knows that he has been playing 7 card stud with only 5 cards since he took the job. He has proven to bring the program back to Top 20 relevance with somewhat of a lesser recruit. Mick wants to be able to recruit with The Pitino's and the Matta's for the absolute best players for his program. Can't do it with subpar facilities no matter how loud it is or how cosmetic you make the pig look.

I'll just simply refer you to my previous post.......

The games are a great experience but that is all there is. The casual fan wants more. The casual fan expects more. Sit your ass up in the corners if you have a bad back and tell me the "experience" was awesome! You wont. Your opinion lacks vision. If you want Cincinnati basketball to be as big as it can be under Mick Cronin 5/3 arena is not a viable option. That is a fact. My complaints are valid. The head coach agrees with me as do many other fans. This is not about us, the die hard fans. This is about the casual fan. Getting the person who does not have a huge allegiance to UC to show up and spend their money. A new arena downtown gives them the reason they need. As for the students Im really sick of that bullshit argument. The students seem to make it to arenas off campus for Louisville, Kentucky, Connecticut, Memphis, and many others across the country. They will make it here too. As for the lesser games. SOME OF THE DAMN SEASON TICKET HOLDERS DONT EVEN SHOW UP. That is why experience is so important. That no matter who you are playing on whatever night there is a reason to come to a UC basketball game. Contests, happy hours, things for kids, music, an MC, games, autograph sessions, halftime shows, and the list goes on and on. You lack vision sir. I want Cincinnati to be BIG TIME.

The casual fans are showing up again, we are about to sell out Houston!! About the back thing, a little improvement is get the upper seats to chair backs, but for the time being bring one of those stadium seat pads that has a back rest, also downtown won't work! We got 10k for the xu game that's including there fans. Downtown durning the beginning of the season is already Bengal land, keep it on campus, students live there and won't like the change, also alumni like going to see there old campus, and parents can stop at their chilrens( students) dorms, apartments, houses. Bottom line keep the games on campus. 5/3 is loud and the fans are coming back, I want big time as well, but downtown is a pain. Traffic for a Thursday game at 7 would be awful and so would parking, I'm the one with the vision not you, Louisville has nothing else there, no nfl, no mlb, no xavier or Dayton right down the road, they are equivalent to our reds

1. Fifth Thirds lights don't have the capability to turn off and on like that (I'm serious)

2. Syracuse already does that stand until the first basket tradition and I think its kind of unnecessary.

3. I agree.

4. I think $5 would be more realistic.

5. We need a new arena in the near future, or at least a vastly renovated one.

I believe u with the lights but that could be an easy renovation. People are buying into to Cronin, Huggins sold out 5/3 all the time and mick is bringing that back

No casual fans are not showing up again. We will not surpass last year's attendance. People are showing up because there is nothing else going on. No reds, no bengals, and UC is top 10. This is about getting them to show up all the time no matter what part of the season it is. UC could be number 1 in the country preseason and there still would be attendance issues because the venue and the experience is sub par. By the way if you ever want to see UC be number 1 again UC better had keep up with the Joneses. No offense to this year's team but their talent level is not elite. Cronin has molded them into an identity and they have toughed their way to a top 10 ranking. Incredible accomplishment but they arent what Kansas, Michigan State, and Florida are, or what UC circa 2000 was. You want elite recruiting classes (Like I do) then you need to play with a full deck. Cronin himself has clamored for a new arena because as he put it "We're treading water" You can only overachieve for so long. Its 2014, not 1996. Institutions are putting big money into programs and facilities to try to get to the top. If UC does not do something they could get left behind. Your nostalgia is not worth it. I could care less if you like seeing your old campus, if the students whine about making a 7 minute drive downtown, if you think traffic would be bad (It wouldnt) or parking stinks (It doesnt). I care about this program challenging for national titles. A new arena downtown dramatically advances that goal. Staying at 5\3 in its current state hinders it. Am I crazy? Is this not just so easy to see and understand?

Your wrong, downtown won't work just like Paul brown wouldn't work perminitly for uc football, it just won't sorry. U think recruits care if your back hurts sitting up top? No they don't, they care about it being loud, being on espn, being in the top 10 all of which we are, also they care about the player caoch relationships which uc builds well. We are getting good talent u said so yourself. Mick has this program back. And yes the casual fans are back, we will sell out for a 12 and 12 Houston team

Coming from someone who does not care whether or not it gets rebuilt/restored, JackBauer151 is making more convincing points in this debate where the results will do nothing to actually change anything.

EVERY ARENA IS LOUD! You think YUM, Rupp, Value City, FedEx arent loud????? All of those teams are consistently in the top 10. All of those teams play on ESPN. All of those teams play in a big conference. Their coaches have final fours and some have national championships. Every single one of them have facilities that decimate Cincinnati's. So a kid has to choose between UC and U of L, Memphis, OSU, or UK. He can play in an NBA like arena with state of the art locker rooms and training facilities or I can go play in a glorified multi purpose gym. This is not hard to understand. Oh also all the teams I just mentioned above consistently have better recruiting classes than we do.

How about a case study? I would love to have a new arena....LOVE...but I am curious as to which new arenas have meant more to selling out and higher recruiting.

Was it Pitino or the YUM? Was it Matta? Was it Self? Was it Coach K? Was it Huggs?

Is the arena selling itself out or the coaching and team's high rankings selling out the arena?

Do I want a new arena? Hell yes! Do I want our coach to leave? Hell no! Do I think we can recruit and sell out EVEN if we don't rebuild or renovate? Hell yes. Do I think we could do better in those areas with a new arena? Hell yes.

I think its obviously a combination of both. Top facilities and a top tier coach= top recruits. I think we have a top tier coach. I understand its never as black and white as that but I just feel there is this cloud around the program that some people still think we are this underdog over achieving. There is some truth to that because of the monetary issues the athletic department has faced. But my reaction is the same as Cronin's to Goodman after the Louisville win after he asked him what the win meant for the program. We have number 1 seeds, NBA draft picks, final fours, and championships. We are not the little engine that could. We are a big time college basketball program. I think a new facility just greatly enhances the perception of the program. When the facility matches the results recruiting gets a lot easier and fast. Then the snowball effect takes place.

Did the Duke arena start selling out because of the arena or because of coach K?. Did the Shoe start selling out because it was the Shoe or because of coach Huggs? Does the YUM sell out because it's the YUM or because Pitino is there and the history is there? Is Matta getting recruits because of the arena or for another reason? Does Kansas sell out because of the arena or because of the history? Does IU sell out because there is nothing else in that town and because it's got history...or the arena?

The arena can help...but it's only about 25% of the equation at best. Maybe 10%. Put a good product on the floor and they will come to the worst arena in the world.

That being said...I would love a new arena...and I think it can help us just a little...and a little is all I need.

Yea its definitely not that black and white. Programs existed before all those high profile coaches. There is no doubt that winning is more important than cosmetics. But cosmetics help you win. Duke has built up enough brand equity where a new arena isnt a priority. UC does not have that. UC cant out recruit the big boys consistently on their name alone. It's a much bigger deal than just a 10% bump.

Agreed! I want a new arena or renovated arena...NO FREAKING DOUBT. I don't think we need it to continue what Cronin has been doing though. Rankings will take care of most of that.
