Houston just announced Major Applewhite as their HC. I'd take Lane Kiffin right now, just make the call Bohn.

Hell, if we're going defensive I'd take Todd Orlando in a heartbeat before I'd take Luke Fickell.
Word was that Houston wanted some heavy buy out language in their contract. Could be why some backed away.

kiffin is a good coach but he is a A##.

While I am not a huge Luke Fickell or Kerry Coombs fan, I do see the value in the hire and believe the duo could do a good/great job here.

I believe our biggest issue right now is recruiting, and we are losing the talent tOSU doesn't want to the likes of UK, UoL, MSU, and IU. We need to keep the local talent if we are going to be a top 25 program again. Tuberville killed local recruiting, and I believe Fickell/Coombs could fix that.

I'm not even going to think about getting Kiffin. I'd be so happy, but we all know it's not happening here. Here's what BCJ says happened there.

Houston wanted huge buyout on next coach, Lane wasn't going for that

Great Post!!!!!!!!! You have hit a home run. This is exactly right. we will never out recruit TOSU for the 5 stars in Cincinnati but we are being out recruited by everyone for the guys a notch below.

Who cares if he's an A##? He can recruit at a very high level and he knows how to coach offense. He'd be a no brainer at this point.

That'd be a step in the right direction. Very curious about who the OC would be.

I'm just messing around. There's just a difference in the demand it seems. We're not just getting 1 OSU coach, but 2. And it doesn't seem like any other FBS schools are beating down the door to get either one. And they're both getting less responsibility by the year under Urban Meyer. It really is just a joke though.

I am Ok with Fickell if that's where they go. Not great, but certainly not the worst. The Coombs package deal is unique. KC's value as a coach drops significantly to any program not recruiting Ohio (really Southern Ohio). Tuberville was thought to be a home run by a bunch of people and he turned out to be a disaster. Only time will tell.

I was in school for the Dave Currey era, and think we are back there now. Nowhere to go but up.

By the way, did anyone else see Urban Meyer's comments about his assistants interviewing for HC jobs? Basically he said, "They better not be. Not until the playoff is done." The nerve of that guy. He claims he is supportive of them getting HC jobs and then threatens them if they do it in the framework that the NCAA has set up. It could explain why all of this has been so quiet if it truly is Luke Fickell and/or Kerry Coombs coming here. I really don't care who the coach is as long as they win. I'll hold my judgement until I see what product they put on the field.

It's going to be hilarious when we hire Fickell and Kerry Coombs doesn't come with him.

That would be pretty funny. No way Coombs gets a DC job any other way though.

We hope it'd help local recruiting. I am curious to see though how those guys would team up to recruit without being able to sell Urban Meyer and Ohio State. I also wonder what kind of offensive players we'd be landing.

Urban Meyer is great. That's hilarious that he said that.

I tricked one of my Ohio State fan cousins who really wants UC to get Fickell. I asked what the chances would be of Ohio State stealing Fickell away from UC when Urban Meyer is done. His response "Hopefully 0". Yikes. Doesn't sound like a steppingstone hire to me. He doesn't have to get something as good as Ohio State, but for a big fan of theirs to hope there's no chance is alarming.

@ChadBrendel
I'm told the Cincinnati search has been narrowed to 2-3 candidates. No job offers out, no negotiations at this point. #Bearcats

Source: Ohio State DC Luke Fickell has agreed to become the head coach at Cincinnati. UC is sending a plane to pick him up.
