16-17 year old kids do not care about how the offense is being run, they don't pay attention to those things. What those NYC/NJ kids to know is the urban legend of their area (Lance) came to UC, so that immediately gets them interested....

You're not even factoring in the train wreck that was our school when he came in, with very few scholarship players and a football player on the squad. Don't leave out obvious information to make your post seem smarter.

Can everyone please stop bringing up the situation that Mick took over? That is long gone, 8 years is a VERY LONG TIME.

Mick knew what he was signing up for, he knew what a lot of people's expectations were when he came. Year 8 and we're still rebuilding?? The only real positive we have to show for the first 7 is one run to the sweet 16. Meanwhile there are a boatload of negatives that can be pointed out.

C'Mon people, wake up!!! Being a Cincinnati sports fan is hard enough and we shouldn't stand for this basketball program becoming what it has with no real hope for the future. Get this team to start winning championships, get back into the Top 15 on a consistent basis, get some All Americans, make the tourney as a high seed and have it be the rule not the exception, reunite the fan base, give us an exciting product to watch and be proud of.

Do all these things or GTFO!!!!

Programs that a Mick Cronin coached team has beaten in the last two years: Georgetown, Uconn, Syracuse, Louisville, Marquette, NC State, Pittsburgh, Villanova, Texas, Florida State, Iowa State, Oregon, Alabama, and Notre Dame. I know about all the concerns that have been raised on this board about Mick. I get where you are coming from and we disagree. This list is what gives me hope. Do there need to be major improvements to get to the next level? No question about it. Is Mick the guy? I dont know. However beating programs like this give me reason to believe if he can just self evaluate and make some key changes we are right there. I know the other side of the argument think Mick is incapable of doing this. Maybe they are right. At this point though I just think we have come to far and are close to getting to that next level with the current freshmen class and next years class. Frustrating time no doubt though.

I second every word of this!

Come on man. So over the top. Who is claiming we are still rebuilding? The program is rebuilt. 3 straight tourney appearances. Is it built back to where we were number 1 in the country of course not. But saying only one sweet 16 in 8 years is completely disingenuous to the argument. If you dont recognize that then it's your problem. The first 4 years are a wash. No players and no way of getting them. I dont care if John Wooden is the coach, without talent you can not win. When he has had a full roster of 4 year D1 players he has had success. When his first actual recruiting class were seniors they made the tournament. They have not missed since then. I know that me and you have different interpretations of what "success" is right now for this program but dont be disingenuous when making your argument.

Right, it was a while ago. That's why we're giving him a free pass on just the first couple years. Yeah, we are "rebuilding" right now, that happens to all teams that have a bunch of seniors leave. Do you really think it'd be smart to boot Cronin right now? What about the freshmen? What about the 2 redshirting? What about the 3 verbals for next year so far? Do you really think they'll all just stick around? Those guys came here for Mick. At this moment, firing Mick will just set the program back a couple more years.

My biggest problem with Mick is he wasn't able to properly replace Yancy and Cashmere. I mean, they were 4-year starters. He had 4 years to find proper replacements and yet we sit here having to play with a 3-star freshman point guard and an undersized Power Forward turned Center. For 2 years people have been talking about what would happen when Cash and Jaquon graduated, and the worst case scenario is happening: SK is having to carry the team on his shoulders

Making the tourney is not the standard of success at a place like UC. When I was in high school and college UC Basketball was the only thing Cincy sports fans had to hang their hats on. We had pride and a brand. We had great players that gave us memorable moments and the only thing we really ever had to be upset about was our teams falling out of the tourney too early.

The fact that this argument is even taking place IS THE PROBLEM and it baffles me that people can't see that. Where is your pride??? Where is the passion from this fan base that people used to have??? It's gone and Mick killed it. Now we're just a bunch of ho-hummers walking around feeling great about a mediocre team with mediocre results. Woo-hoo, we got to the tourney, let's all go celebrate.

Sorry man but I'm pretty passionate about UC Hoops and I want that feeling I used to have back. I want to find someone who will lead me back there and Mick is not that guy.

Do you really think anyone here is satisfied with this? Of course we want to go back to those days. We're just being logical. Nobody is head over heels for Mick. Just content, for now, if that. Its not as easy as JUST FIRE HIM NOW.

So the situation from 8 years ago is long gone but how this program was wayyy back when you were in high school is perfectly relevant, huh? I guess whatever fits your argument.

I don't think you're being logical. There is nothing logical about watching the same struggles year after year and expecting them to chang with the same person at the helm. Bad offense every year, a couple decent recruits among many average/below average. Zero conf championships, zero conf tourny championships, one first round, one second round, and one third roundin the ncaa.

You make is sound so easy. I guess we should just pony up 5-10 mil and hire phil jackson or get Calipari. Do you think that Ono and Whit don't want a top 15 program? The program could be on that track with the last two recruiting classes with solid 4 year players that are much better than we had been getting.

Fans are content with this product. They whine about it, but in the end, accept it for what it is. Entertainment. UC will not be a national product under Cronin. That is a given. The type of fan that rallies around him are not the terrible towel types either. Those are the type of fans who want to be inspired. Inspire them and the place will rock. Cronin couldn't inspire a man dying of thirst to take a drink of water. That is also a fact. The blue collar fans are staying home and finding something else to do with their time and money.

Obviously, Tom Crean inherited a similar situation at Indiana, was 6-25 in his 1st year, but was 27-9 in year 4, with a trip to the Sweet 16, won the Big Ten Championship outright in year 5, along with getting to the #1 ranking in the nation, and a 29-7 record, and another sweet 16 appearance. He also has landed some big-time recruits along the way. During our 15 or so years in the nineties and early 2000s, we consistently were ranked higher and out-performed IU. So, I believe he performed the way that any great coach would have performed and he has that program back near the top in a reasonable amount of time.

A few years ago, people on these sites would routinely bring up Crean to support their argument for Mick. It was because Mick out-performed him in the 1st three years. Now we never hear Crean's name mentioned anymore for some strange reason. Wonder why?

That was a very tall order in the BEast. Now in the AAC we should compete for both.

Depending on how you spin it I guess you have a point.

From my perspective arguing that a situation that took place 8 years ago is not an excuse for today's performance is different than stating I hold this team to a standard of excellence that was set 20 years ago.

One has nothing to do with the other. The goal is to get to a level of success that this team has achieved before and God forbid surpassing it. Mick said himself when he took the job the goal to was bring national championships to UC. Well it's year 8, how we looking????? Not good.

One big thing that Crean has going for him is support. Even when he was 6-25 they nearly sold out every game and supported the team. Recruits notice that, a lot. Quite the opposite has happened at UC. People want to find reasons to complain and moan about things and not go to games.

It's too hard is not an acceptable answer and as a fan you shouldn't accept it. Simple fact is there is a guy here right now who is in his 8th year and isn't getting it done at the level many people expect. Would you rather wait another 5 or 6 years and see if he maybe puts it together or would you rather have a chance at finding that success sooner?

Don't settle for mediocrity just because greatness seems like a hard thing to obtain. As Cincinnati fans we've done that for far too long with the sports franchises in this city. As a passionate sports fan I expect the best from the teams I root for. There's no reason not too, we can and should expect our teams to be great.

EXACTLY!!!! This coach has failed in gaining the support of our fanbase. The name Tom Crean obviously kept their fanbase excited and gave them some hope. The name Mick Cronin obviously didn't excite our fanbase, and he has not made any big statement in 8 years to change that perception.

I can only speak for myself, but I think it is relevant. Back in the '80s, I rarely went to a game. Yates just did nothing for me and the brand was terrible. In the 90s, I went more often because the games were exciting and it was a great atmosphere. Near the end of Huggins' time here, things starting changing. Players were always in trouble for one thing or another. Huggins was always in trouble for something. The team just did not look like a team. Then came Cronin. Not only is he not exciting to watch, but his teams are just flat and boring. The games would make Job beg God for death. You will always have a base. But if you want that extra something coming to Clifton, you are going to have to give them a reason to make the trip.
