Bruce Pearl will never be the head basketball coach at UC, you can write it down and circle it.

Way to go out on a limb there Ralph with yet another bold prediction.

I never said he would be, in fact, if you took the time to read you'd see where I went on to say that I don't believe our administration wants to or will get rid of Mick.

I was just simply throwing his name out there as a response to so many people's favorite question of, "If we fire Mick who could we hire?"

He doesn't put butts in the seats. Integrity and gratuation rates are great attributes, but it's a far broader picture than that. There are many coaches who have integrity and will graduate players, plus ignite the fanbase, attract great recruits, develop talent, and take the program to another level.

There are very few college basketball programs putting butts in the seats these days. UCLA hired Steve Alford and is 9-1, they are averaging 5,819 for 7 games. Your boy Bobby is packing in a mere 6,383 for 6 games at the WVU Arena (seats 14,000) and barely drew 9,000 for Gonzaga.

It would not be Bruce Pearl.

Does anyone know if the lack of offense over the past 5 years has a negative impact with Cronin's recruiting? Just saying, if I was a top player I would be scared to go to UC. Offense is terrible and development is at a minimum.

I mentioned a Bruce Pearl like personality as well if we ever needed a new coach. I'm not opposed to Bruce Pearl himself either - I think he's a great coach. Cincinnati fans, in my opinion, need not just an X's & O's coach but an engaging personality. We like the Tommy T, Brian Kelly, Huggins, Urban Meyer,Sam Wyche larger than life personalities.

Lance Stephenson seemed to do okay at UC and developed fairly well, scored 23 for the Pacers last night.

Mick Cronin has done some nice things at UC, anyone who says differently is a moron. The problem is he hasn't done enough nice things.

It's been 8 years and we have made 1 sweet 16. LaSalle made a sweet 16 last year, it's not that great of an accomplishment when it stands by itself. I'm happy we did it and I liked that team, specifically Yancy, but that is the exception under Mick and not the rule.

If people still support Mick then that's fine but any reasonable person should now be able to understand the other side of this argument.

As far as I'm concerned a guy like Mick is the most dangerous coach a team can have and I've said this for years. He does just enough not to get fired but never enough to be great. So your program just gets stuck in the mud and mired in mediocrity. That is what Mick is doing at UC. At least with a bad coach you suffer for a few years and move on, with a great coach everyone is happy, with a guy like Mick you just waste away in purgatory for eternity.

He has recruited 2 of the top 5 scorers in the schools history.

LS came to UC bc not too many other schools wanted him due to his legal trouble. I'm not bashing Cronin by asking that question. I think it was a legimate question.

And what has that done for the TEAM?

What are you getting at? Having two top 5 scorers is pretty impressive.

It has helped get UC out of the hole that was the death penalty and helped pave the way toward 3 straight NCAA appearances. Helped show leadership to the underclassman.

Having no identity on the offensive end is going to take UC no where. I am all about tough defense but I am starting to think that only gets you mildly above average. Think of what the UC teams could have done if they were able to score more than 65 points in the last 3 years. Maybe we are just due for a down year and I'll accept that. But I haven't seen much of any hope for a successful offensive scheme. Definition of insanity my friends. We are likely to see the same results without an honest change from our coaches.

So Mick is 142-102 since he's been here (+/-).
50 (+/-) of those teams have been patsies (even lost to a couple).
So what's his "real record"? And what will his record be at the end of this season? And what are these numbers worth? Anybody truly believe it will be over .500? He's got a head start with his soft early season opponents.
He's yet to come up with a fivesome who can play with synergy. X broke the press with ease. Nobody has pressed us yet (no need to). All we know is that we can't figure out how to play vs a zone. If it's so effective vs us, maybe we should try it and see if it works FOR us. Today will be interesting to see what kind of imagination Mick has come up with in the past 3 days.
Mick, if you do the same thing over and over with the same bad results, do you think maybe you're doing something wrong?

You're not even factoring in the train wreck that was our school when he came in, with very few scholarship players and a football player on the squad. Don't leave out obvious information to make your post seem smarter.

OK, toss out the first few years, what's your excuse for now?

Quick breakdown by years for Cronin at UC......(Not including this season)

Mick Cronin's record at UC:
2006-08: 24-38
2008-10: 37-30
2010-now: 78-31

Look, I'm not even much of a Cronin supporter, just saying that wasn't fair. If you look at him from 2010-now (Like Bauer just did), you can see that.

Like I've said, you have to give him a couple more years. Miss the tourney the next two years and he should be gone, no question. If he makes the tourney both years but loses 1st round, I think its a toss up.

Now toss out the patsies and recalculate to see what the true effective record is. Looks a little better 2010- present. Then do it again at the end of this season. I'll remind you in a few months.
