New Arena

I've been doing some research. The Fed Ex Forum cost roughly 315 million dollars. That is a state of the art facility. I think we could get something like that downtown with the help of the owners of US bank arena. Either that or build something half as nice as that on campus. The Cintas Center cost 63 million dollars. If we put 100 million into an on campus arena I think that would be the first option.

If the upper sections of Cintas went all the way around, the capacity would be in the 12,000-13,000 range. Seating in a bowl configuration is all the rage these days, and for good reason -- the views are optimized and you get the most fans in the least amount of space, which means the place gets loud.

I wonder if you can optimize that and go full on cage-style spherical seating. Roller coaster like harnesses the full boat. I'm on board.

“I’m open to either. What I will say for our fans is that they need to trust our leadership, that if we do move downtown it will be because the people that own the U.S. Bank Arena are going to totally redo it as if it’s a brand-new arena for the Cincinnati Bearcats. If that happens, you will walk in thinking that it is our arena. Or it will not happen.”

I love the Shoe but hate the parking. A few years ago, there were several other places available to park that were cheaper and much closer to the arena but all of those options were closed off. Never felt the high amount of bleacher style seating was attractive or conducive to a fun experience. I am all in for a move to US Bank as is though. Better parking and much better seating. And maybe offer the Lytle Tower as dorm spaces for BBall players lol. That might help a little in recruiting!

I walked away from the article feeling as if this was another case of Cronin blaming the refs for a loss. Just wish he would stop this practice. Looks so bad.
nurse Julie I walked away feeling like we have a hard driven coach who above all else wants to be here and deliver a successful program to the fans.

So you were happy with the officiating after the UL game? You do realize this article quotes him from the PRESS CONFERENCE AFTER THE GAME right? Holy smokes, some people look for whatever they want in an article and don't actually pay attention to what it was actually written about. Geez.

lol. Where did you get the idea I am a nurse? But thanks for the compliment I think. I think everyone knows he wants to be here and be successful. And he stressed that point. But when you inject a negative comment into the article, that is what many people will take from it. That said, I am warming up to him slowly, kind of like a bad Christmas sweater over a cold winter lol. And I support his push to get us into the US Bank Arena.

If you're only taking away the negative point, then maybe you're a negative person.

I took away that I trust the school and coach to make a great decision with our future. If US Bank Arena is as on-board as I read they were a while ago, I'd have to guess the odds are more in favor of moving downtown than staying put. But I really have no idea.

Only those who have a negative opinion of the coach to start with. I didn't take that from that article at all. He said he had "no comment" about officiating. The article's writer is the one who injected a negative tone towards him assuming Mick would have a negative thing to say about the refs. His full comments about why they lost that game was that they failed to execute defensively the last couple of possessions.

What I took from the article was Mick basically saying the Nederlander group will have to pony up some serious cash and give them essentially a new arena that is theirs if they are to go downtown. And I took that with the mindset that I don't want them moving off-campus so maybe I interpreted his comments differently than someone who wants them to move downtown. Someone who wants them to go downtown might interpret it as things are moving forward.

If you are OK with moving to US Bank as it is now I'm wondering if you have ever been inside it

I have been to both Shootouts the past 2 years and enjoyed the experience. I was a season ticket holder back in the late 70's and 80's as well when it was our home court. The energy has always been better in the Shoe, but that is because our teams have been much better, I think. Given a choice, I would take the U.S Bank Arena as is.

I agree and if US Bank Arena is transformed into a state of the art facility that makes it even better. All about making the university more $$.

I've questioned it before and I'll open it up for discussion again, how does UC stand to make more money by splitting revenue with the Nederlander group? If they were to pony up $100 million to renovate the US Bank for us then how much profit are they willing to give up? UC is doing alot of early work towards trying to sell season tickets next year. If we see a decent boost in season ticket sales next year then I think it will make it even tougher to increase revenue by moving downtown. If anyone thinks we move down there and just all of a sudden draw 15,000 a game they are fooling themselves, IMO. I agree that it will come down to the bottom line of what makes more money.

Another point is when UC was pondering a change in it's football venue it sent out a survey to UCats members as to their opinions of if they would go downtown and/or if they were willing to buy more expensive/premium seating. I would expect a similar survey to come out at some point about basketball. Mainly what percentage of UCats members would renew seats downtown. Season ticket holders/donors are you rmoney makers as far as attendance goes. You don't move downtown if those people aren't willing to go and I seriously doubt they'd make a decision without at least asking them.

I allowed my seats to expire 2 seasons ago but would be one of the first to sign up for new ones if a move was made, even at an increase in price.

Does anyone know if there is a required gift for the cheapest season tickets? Grad school has caused me to be lacking funds, but $99 for every home game is too good to pass up. Not to mention I've always wanted to officially be a season ticket holder and support the program.

No required gift for those. They are bleacher seats in the upper deck.
