Even if Cheikh does not score much but consistantly gives us defense and rebounds this year everyone will be very happy

If Moog gives us a Thomas like contribution, and we can get some bench scoring from 1-2 freshmen I think this team will be very good. My belief is we'll see more consistent outside shooting this season.

Was down last night....

Yancy had a couple awesome post moves, got the ball and went fast.

JD is BE ready physically which is nice to see.

Guyn will be a solid backup this season imo. Very quick and shot looked solid.

Shaq needs serious weight room efforts before he becomes a force.

Here is my question. UC seems to have a complete logg jam at the backup PG position. Where is everyone going to fit in.

I can't speculate on what will happen, but what I would LIKE to see happen is:

-Cash stays healthy all year and plays like healthy Cash.

-Guyn develops nicely and becomes the #2 behind Cash.

-Davis ends up splitting time getting a small # of minutes at the 1 and a few minutes at the 2.

-Parker has a bounce back year and provides anywhere from 10-20 minutes at the 2 spot.

I could be wrong and maybe Mick wants Parker to continue to run point but I really think he could be more effective at the two, considering the other options right now. A lot of it will depend though on how well JD and Guyn adjust to the speed of the game and running the O.

I've never seen Shaq in person, so it's tough to get a feel... does it appear as though he will have Darnell Wilks issues with putting weight on or does he have the frame to add solid weight?

I would say it will be hard for him to gain weight... Hopefully Im wrong but idk, thoughts of redshirt and a year of serious lifting have crossed my mind.

I agree with LL... redshirt Shaq and go the Kilpatrick route. Give him a year to develop his game and put on some weight cuz I do think he is going to struggle to put on the weight. A (redshirt) freshman 15 would do him good.

In respose to the Thomas discussion, I see no way he redshirts him. I believe he's our highest rated freshman coming in, so I can't imagine Mick not wanting to see what he can do. He's so athletic and could be an X-factor on the offensive end. His frame is somewhat similar to Wilks, but it's hard to say if he's unable to put on weight or that he just hasn't done it yet. It's possible the kid's never really bothered to lift weights. If I had to compare him to current/recent Bearcats I would say he reminds me of Kilpatrick in the way he can find ways to score (inside of ten feet, I've yet to really see him take a good jump shot) with the jumping ability of Wilks. He just seems to have a knack for getting his shot off in traffic. He's good at bouncing away from defenders or using his body so that his shot comes off clean. That being said this is the Deveroes League, I'm sure he'll have to adjust to real Big East defenders. There are some power forwards that will eat him alive if he comes inside on them. In a transition game, though, he could be deadly.

Looking forward to seeing Mbodj, glad he made it down. I'll be there Sunday so hopefully I'll get to see him. I agree with Jeff that we just need him to replace what Thomas brought. Thomas was underrated as a defender, no one could look past his horrible offense. He was also a great reboubder, good at getting in position. If he can replace Thomas in the rebounding dept. and have the ability to execute the short put-back shot that has eluded us at the 4 for so many years (minus Gates, except he can't rebound) I will be more than happy.

I guess Mick doesn't want to use Parker at the 1, otherwise he would have played much more. If we can get a Larry Davis type year from JaQuan, it would be great.

I think Shaq is much more ready for the college games than Wilks ever was. Although he will say he can also play the 2-- I think Shaq is the "true three" I've desired since Mick got here. He will definitely see some time this, somewhere between 10-15 games depending on the flow of the games.

Edit: I agree with David that he will be the X-factor this year...capable of some "WOW" moments. I said, I believe last year, that he has the most potential to develop into a All-Big East player with a shot at the NBA if it all pans out--and as you guys know I'm usually the one who downplays all your lofty goals...

I don't think they have a log jam at all. Not including incoming freshman, they have one true PG (Cash). Parker is not a PG. If he plays it will most likely be at the 3 spot where they are very weak. Dixon obviously isn't a PG. Guyn is supposed to be converting to a PG but he has been a shooting guard his whole life except last year. Davis is considered a combo guard that can play point in a pinch. So no, IMO, they don't have a log jam.

I don't see any chance that Shaq is redshirted. If he has skills, he will play. UC is weak at the SF position and Shaq has tremendous potential. Weight is a bit overrated anyway. How thick was James White? How think is Jeremy Lamb? Wilks was thin but that never was his issue. He lacked the needed skills. If Shaq has the skills he should see some minutes.

I've told people since he was signed that Guyn is better than people think. He will play.

Davis will remain a combo imo. He is a good set shooter and UC needs that on the perimeter. He willl see some spot minutes at the point.

Parker will be given a chance to win minutes. I agree it will be at the 3 or the 2. Mick likes veterans.

Thomas absolutely has the highest ceiling. Weight is overrated but stength isn't. He will need strength to play in the Big East.

Mbodji and Gaines will be major factors for this team. Cats have to get solid minutes from them.

Sanders is in worse shape than I thought. Still anxious to see him in October. I wouldn't count him out by no means.

For the record, I dont see Shaq being redshirted, however I would consider it... As for Jeremy Lamb, hes a rare kind. Shaq has no where near the shooting that Lamb has. imo.

I'm not saying Shaq is Lamb, but the point is just because you are thin doesn't mean you can't play. It'd be one thing if he was a PF or C, but he's a SF and is very lengthy.

btw - Lamb wasn't a great shooter but did become much better towards season end.

Ge'lawn Guyn has played the PG for most of his career. His had to score in high school.. Ge'lawn has a 42 inch vertical and 6'10 wing span..
He is working hard to be a better PG for UC.. I think he is put in about 5 hours a day in the gym.

I'm very intrigued by the future at the PG spot. I like the things Guyn and Davis bring to the table. Love Guyn's length and athleticism. Then you have Davis' strength and thick body. Physically speaking, these two should really compliment each other.

I like the prospects of Guyn as a future PG. But having a freshman coming in and converting to a PG and calling it a logjam is far fetched to me.

Ge'lawn will play any spot to help UC Win. If it is a logjam PG, he will have to redshirt this year. But a year seating out will make him a beast in 2012 season. But I think it will be hard to keep him off the floor this year. He will not take a positon off in the game or at practice. He is in the gym about 5 hours everyday. I think the fan will love him when they see him on the floor this year or next year.

I dont see him redshirting. He is to skilled and ready to go imo.
