If I had a quarter for every time I've thought that and been wrong I'd have about $10.
I think we spend too much time flip flopping around here. We lose a game we should win and suddenly I feel a lot more welcome here and we win a couple games against teams we should beat and suddenly all is right with the world again.
Bottom line is that we're still a bubble team and this year has been a huge disappointment to date. Our head coach is mostly to blame for our struggles and it's going to take a tremendous run to get to the tourney and make it to at least a Sweet 16. Anything less than that is a failure, simply getting there is not an accomplishment.
I couldn't agree more about the Kenyon comments. It's hilarious that Mick's biggest supporters here want to give Kenyon all the credit for the weekend. You're basically confirming that Mick is incapable of coaching by saying Kenyon Martin could come in here for one week and completely turn around our season. The sad thing is I think you're all right........fire Mick immediately and hire Kenyon.
I must've missed the posts where Kenyon was given credit for coaching the team to victory. What I gleaned for the most part was that having the presence of a Bearcat legend going one on one with our current players, encouraging them and giving them advice, gave the players a sense of the program and a jolt of energy, maybe even confidence. I personally think he'd make a helluva big man coach or at least a good assistant a la Jaquon Parker. That doesn't mean that I think he could step right in and draw up plays or run the program day in and day out. It's a long season. Having a former national player of the year and #1 overall draft pick (not to mention someone that these guys actually saw in the league as kids) show up at your practices and games and basically say "we're all part of this family" has to be a big boost and a welcome break from the regular daily grind.
Pursuant to how we react after games...well that's part of being a fan. Support for the program is unwavering on my end but because of that, it's easier to get frustrated because we want these kids to do well so badly. I want Jenifer to get some minutes here and there because I want him to be ready to contribute in a year or so (or even this year) when we really, really need him. It sucks to see Shaq make an NBA level move then gator arm a 2 footer because you can see how incredibly athletic he is. And so on.
I'm not suddenly going to become a Xavier or Kentucky fan if my Alma Mater doesn't make the tournament. My focus is on Cincinnati and my interest in college basketball 2015-2016 essentially ends when our season ends. That's both good and bad.
