Great win today. What else can be said. This team has really turned it on. Reminds me of two years ago when we came on in the Big East tourney and made the run to the sweet sixteen. When Gates turned it on back then we became a complete team. JJ has done that for us now and honestly I think our other players right now as a whole are better than that team was, even though we are younger. We will still have some disappointments this year and some games that we will scratch our heads at, but hopefully by March what we saw today is a good representation of what we'll see then plus some added experience in our freshman. I thought Memphis was one of those teams that we wouldn't match-up well against. Coming in I honestly thought about a 10-12 point loss was in order. I told myself I would be happy if we kept it close and how awesome it would be if we could steal one. I just didn't want to see us get behind and panic. This team has some serious fortitude and we are starting to figure it out on offense. I fully expect Memphis to give us their best effort in that return game here at the Shoe. That will be a fun game.

First off great team win by the bearcats.

Second thank god we did not get Michael Dixon when he transferred he was a ball hog, he was out of control, and a cry baby.

Third please no one ever say Johnson is a pg again he lost the ball about 3 or 4 times dribbling the ball up the court on fast breaks, he is a scorer please keep him at the sg spot.

Forth can someone please tell the team to STOP passing the ball to Rubles on top of the key he can not shoot and he can't pass if your going to play him let him play down low and get rebounds and put backs.

Fifth and last I can not say enough about how great Caupain is playing and growing up in front of our eyes, great player.

Great game all around. Best played 2 halves I have seen out of this team all year. Glad to see Jackson FINALLY play up to his potential.

I agree with the first part but the last part has been happening for the past 6 games. I will assume you didn't mean "finally" in this game.

I agree with most of your points but I think KJ only got picked twice which is bad enough. One of them was probably a very good coaching moment. I think he grabbed a rebound and split two defenders who were trapping him...but once he did that he should have realized those two defenders were going to be behind him on either side and he should have gotten rid of the ball or stopped dribbling.

Freshman move but his handles are just fine. I am not saying he should play point.

really impressed with Caupain running the break. He's much quicker and faster than I thought. Good decision maker too.

You know I kept hearing the announcers talking about his quickness and I was thinking they were wrong. But then I saw how quick he is when sees a lane to the bucket. Maybe not the quickest defender but on offense he is as quick as we need.

He is quick with the ball, which is what matters the most. He's not a great vertical leaper and his lateral quickness isn't the best, but he just turned 18. He is still growing and adding muscle to his frame. He's not a burner, but he can add some speed and a couple inches to his vertical with good training. More importantly, he is smart and understands angles and positioning. His defense is still solid... he's not as quick as Guyn or Johnson, but he has a knack for deflections and keeps his man in front of him for the most part.

There are a lot of point guards in the NBA who are athletic freaks... Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Wall... but guys like Chris Paul, Steve Nash, and Stephen Curry also play the position brilliantly without being blindingly fast. And, call me crazy, but I see some Chris Paul in Caupain's game.

Kid can rebound with the best of the guards. He can see the floor like a great guard. He can finish at the rim as good as any PG I can remember in UC history. He's got a decent outside shot. He makes a lot of FT's and his % doesn't drop when the game is on the line. He is very smart. He can get a lot of steals, rebounds, and deflections with his instinct even if he's slightly slower or less athletic.

He's not a great on ball defender but he definitely makes up for it in almost every other department.

I don't think he's a bad on-ball defender at all though. Honestly, what impresses me the most about Caupain is that he doesn't have any glaring weakness in his game. Obviously he has a lot of room for improvement, but he already does pretty much everything you ask a point guard to do. All he needs to do is work on his athleticism, keep gaining confidence, and continue being a student of the game. He will average 5 or 6 assists per game before he leaves Cincinnati.

He reminds me of a bigger Trey Burke. I think if played the type of minutes Burke played his freshman year, his numbers would be comparable. Burke was probably a better natural scorer, but I think its a good comparison.

Some interesting stats from the game...

JJ had 7 blocks...enough said

One of my favorite stats is assists/steals/blocks comapred to TO's...

TR...6-0
ST...4-0
TC...8-1
ST...4-0
JJ...10-3

The rest of the Cats I won't mention becuase they were less than spectacular.

We agree on most of this. He is not GG or TR in terms of defending. He may not be a "bad" defender but I was just equating to players we have on our team right now.

If I add these up...these 5 players were an average 8 to 1 in terms of assists/steals/blocks compared to TO's. That's huge.

If I eliminate JJ these guys were 22:1 in that ratio to TO's. Kudos to TR, TC, and ST. JJ was still pretty damn good.

BearcatMick today:

We got the win at memphis. I think we lose at Loserville and at some random team like SMU.

Win the rest.
