Some of you guys know I am a xavier fan- most of you dont. (I post here because one of my buddies suggested it and I can talk a little UC i guess)
Time to get some things straight. 1- Xavier owns this city- and has for years. (When was the last time UC made the sweet 16?...let alone the tournament?!). Xavier has been to the elite 8 twice and sweet 16 twice since UC has won a game in the NCAA tournament....uh-oh!! Mick knew this season was his year to show he deserved to stay-hence the schedule. What was it? 335th or something?!!? cooome oonn....thats awful.
The past few years me and my friends have talked and debated if it was wise for Xavier to drop UC from the schedule--most think so. Its a lose lose for the Muskies- UC will never be what they were (which really wasnt much-Huggins last 10 years at UC he made it to the second weekend all of...TWO years-it was time for him to go regardless of off court issues).
Last- and not least- this is rivalry week and all in good fun. I will continue to post (if allowed).
As for the actual game- UC does seem like a "huggins" team- very strong Defense. They are lengthy and athletic- attack the boards real well. I think the overall talent was better last year for UC- but this years team plays with heart and the way Mick wants which is working out for them. People can talk schedule all they want- they have dominated some decent teams (Dayton, SH).
I have seen many of you predict a blow out- it wont happen. Its the cross town and blow outs rarely happen (though first year I had season tickets at Cintas UC blew em outa the water...rough one)
I think the game will come down to two people- Jackson and Lyons. If they each play well- X will win, if either has an "off" night it will be all UC. (Which is a good thing for UC with how inconsistent Lyons is) If lyons is off- UC can and will win by double digits. I am not too worried about the full court D as X has pretty much to PG's on court at all times with Holloway and Lyons (lyons can dribble well...scoring? sometimeS) and I watched the SH game- it looked like their guards got to the lane pretty easily- both Lyons and especially Holloway are very good at that.
I will save my prediction for later- dont attack me- its all in good fun. I will say- Holloway will be the best player on the court, easily.
