You can't have them on the floor at the same time unless you're going three guard. If Jenifer is in, then Thomas should be in. There are just certain guys I don't like on the floor together.
I agree if your going to play JJ then Shaq has to be on the floor.

Jacob the only flaw I see in your theory is Clark has never demonstrated he can make that shot. From what I've seen if I'm the opposition I want him taking them all day as opposed to being around the boards taking shots he can make and drawing fouls or collecting offensive rebounds. He is much better served closer in.

He is 3 for 5 this year on 3s. Not bad. I wouldn't mind him shooting 1 or 2 per game. It offers him and our offense a higher ceiling. Otherwise, he gets the Rubles treatment when he's out there and that doesn't help anyone. His eFG% is highest on the team, but his points/40 minutes are the lowest on the team. I wouldn't mind a bit of a sacrifice in eFG% for a few more shots in an effort to create more spacing. He's only averaging 5.3 FG attempts this year, down 0.9 from last year.

Edit- not saying Clark should live outside, but it could just be another look on a few possessions per game.

I don't like personal attacks L-T so I tend to generalize? I don't like to post profanity too often so I use the less profane terms most of the time. I hope that's ok.

I am sure you can use stats to say anything you would like if you have an agenda and your purpose is to be intellectually dishonest...but it's not mine. I just wish people would back up claims that people are "regressing" or "not improving" etc with at least some sort of empirical evidence other than "it just seems like it"...LMFAO! Do you know what the F in that stands for or do you prefer I write it out?

I prefer you write it out. Others may not know what it means. It's good to keep everyone in the loop.

I can see that for pace purposes. In the halfcourt though it may be better to have a catch and shoot guy in with Jenifer.
The ball just seems to die in his hands. For those who have played basketball Shaq reminds me of a guy I used to play with that would wow you to death at times but he had to have the ball. You knew once it went into his hands getting it back was a foregone conclusion. His game is not suited to make those around him better. Not knocking the kid he will leave with a degree and has been here 5 years. Just giving my opinion. If we played a up down game it could have gone better. Really surprised he never transferred.

if we are running half court at this point in his career I don't want JJ on the court for long stretches. Teams are going to be zoning the shit out of us after watching X just kill us with it. Penetration is tough against a zone unless your running. His game is up and down. while I hate to get into who should play and who shouldn't because I have no access to film or practice I will say.

I would start TC,Cobb,Evans,Clark and Ellis. Having Evans on the wing spreads the floor a bit more even though Shaq has not be dreadful from the arc. It also give us a better ball handler in game which we have struggled with TO's

Shaq can sub at the 3 and 4 with JJ backing up Troy and KJ backing up Cobb. Deberry plays behind Ellis. Moore is just not a player to me. He gets lost defensively.doesn't board much. He has improved but he will never crack the line up here.

Agree 100%! KJ and ST kill any kind of offensive flow we can create in half court. Flow is not the fault of Caupain...guys like KJ and Thomas bog it down with their deficiencies. I would give Evans 25+ minutes and Shaq 15 minutes at the 3 and 5 minutes subbing for Clark and running small. I would start to try to work in Jenifer a little more. Caupain needs more of a break and he can get some of KJ's minutes too.
I agree. Was really hoping KJ would figure it out.

I don't know if anyone else noticed but Shaq had several shots in the X game which looked much more like last season's extremely flat shot. His shot was looking much improved before that last game IMO. They went real flat again.

If he shoots with some arc I don't mind him shooting open 3's

i noticed a bit more arc especially on his FT's. My opinion of his game is that he has some physical tools. He runs well and leaps well. His shot is very average unless he is in the lane off the bounce. His handles are below average and when he is dribbling he does not see the other players. He has problems playing within the offense. He used to drive me crazy because he would drive to the rim and try to avoid contact. I prefer he draw the foul and go to the line. A almost highlight shot that doesn't go in is a turn over. He is absent on the glass but he does seem to be making more effort this year on the offensive glass. Defensively he is solid but does get bullied down low. Shaq is not well suited in the half court. He is best on the break when he can get to the rim. I like him off the bench when he can be utilized to take advantage of the things he does well. He has some versatility in hat he can play some 3 and 4. At this point in time I think Evans adds more value to the team at the 3.

WH, below is what you just posted in a comment to me.

"I just wish people would back up claims that people are "regressing" or "not improving" etc with at least some sort of empirical evidence other than "it just seems like it"

Then you post this. Isn't this an example of the "pot calling the kettle black" If you're going to make a statement that Shaq's shot is regressing, at least use some empirical evidence to support it. For the record, he shot 46% for the game, pretty close to the 50% he averages for the season....and.....he had one of the very best shooting percentages on our team for the game. The "eye test", just like stats, can be used by people with agendas also, if you know what I mean.

I didn't comment on his % being bad or anything...just that I noticed his shot looked flatter in the X game than previous games. Just an observation. I also said I thought his shot before that game looked much improved. I wasn't trying to prove anything I just asked if anyone else had noticed. Not sure what you are looking for here??

I'm not looking for anything. I'm not the person who chose to post a personal attack against posters who you think are irrational, waiting to complain after games like these, post eye test BS, and other completely useless information, and who don't use stats or emperical data to support their useless information. And then you follow it up with your personal "eye test" obsevations about Shaq. If nobody can post on what they see and/or feel without getting attacked for it, then practice what you preach. Feeling that you believe that Shaq's shot regressed in the X game to last year's flat shot is really completely useless info by your definition, and it wasn't supported by empirical data. It was just your own personal eye test and an attempt to get people to believe your own professional eyes over stats.....your words, not mine.

Ok gotcha L-T but I'm not interested in doing this with you. I'm gonna step out

Good decision. That's what I would do too if I had went down that road.

I assume we can resume posting about what we see and how we feel about what we see.

For the record, I happen to agree with your eye test completely. I saw the flat shots just like you did, but I was paranoid about commenting to the affirmative without the stats to back it up.
