The thing is, when Vogt is at the rim and in position, he has done very well at preventing layups. The problem is that he generally gets pulled away from the bucket pretty easily (mostly because of the scheme: man defense so he has to guard his man) and once he's pulled away he can't move well enough to get back and can't defend outside the paint.
Yeah, I'm not arguing that Vogt is a good perimeter or even overall defender. I'm simply saying that the stats/ratings being tossed around aren't definitive.

I've said multiple times that Brannen probably wants bigs in the mold of Marc Gasol rather than Hassan Whiteside.

It breaks down Literallly EVERYTHING like to an insane amount of detail that i just stop scrolling.

looks very clear. very good defending on the block on post ups. very poor on spot ups.

when he guards his man 1 on 1 in the post he's very good. when he helps off penetration and then is forced to rotate out to the 3 point line he struggles tremendously. I don't believe our bigs were asked to do that in the past because we didn't play stricly man defense.

Break down is pretty simple. Vogt's man has attempted 17 3's and made 10 of them at 1.765 points per possession.

That is clearly a problem, but we're talking about less than 2 shot attempts per game and guys are hitting at a rather insane rate for a center even if they are wide open.

I like to see .6 ppp on post ups. Those 3's put everything way out of whack and I'd expect those numbers to go way down just based off average college 3 point shooting.

Once again, I think we are arguing two different things. All I want or expect Vogt to do, is play solid 1-1 defense, in the paint. For that, he’s been great. If you expect him to chase around shooters and weak side blocks, yes he will be terrible at that. He is what he is. I doubt brannen is expecting him to do these things.

Apparently Vogt has had 47 shots against and attempted 70 shots. Not what I expected.

I want a center who can play good defense in the scheme. Vogt cannot in Brannen's scheme. He is abused on jump shots. He can't play help defense. Brannen apparently expects Diarra to do those things and it looks like Vogt is supposed to as well. If Brannen can find a way to scheme to protect Vogt, the do it and play Vogt. But so far he hasn't.

We all want that man. I think every person on this board wants a better player than Chris Vogt. I can say that with certainty. But we have Vogt. I don’t know what to tell you.

Vogt can play. You guys capable of watching a game? Hes beem very goos for this team. Idc about any analytics.

If we go dancing. Big if. He could win us a game with his post play vs a smaller school.

Thos team bas far far far bigger issues than vogt at center

Thanks for sharing that. Most of the rows are blank, so it's not too bad reading through. It rates him as a "very good" post-up defender, holding opponents to 36% shooting on the block.

He is "poor" against jump shots, with opponents making 11 of 22 attempts, including a whopping 10 of 17 from three.

My questions still stand about how the Synergy algorithm decides that a player is attempting a shot against Vogt. If he plays good perimeter defense and his man doesn't shoot, he gets no credit. If he helps in the paint and the ball is kicked out for a three, who's man is that?

LOL the good thing is we will never have to worry about Vogt playingh good perimeter defense.

Actually to me, the worst part of his defense, wont show on synergy. Its his lack of ability to help defend and then recover to his man, or make a rotation to cut off a driver.

Tre Scott can get beat, and yet recover to block your shot off the backboard. Same for Brooks. But Vogt is just too slow to Ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever X Infinity... Leave the paint.

He should camp out there, set up shop, sell cookies and lemonaide. Get married in the paint and make sweet love to it. Because its the only place he belongs on defense.

Hes just a 6 inch shorter version of our tacko fall on defense. only he might be slower footed.

STAY IN The PAINT.

This teams issue is defense

Its issue starts with bad perimeter defenders and ends with a slow footed shot block to help them.

ON defense he is absolutely apart of the problem.

I will Take Vogt over Brooks, etc any day. Athletically Brooks was better, but Vogt's footwork and ability to score in close destroys Brooks.

As fans we are so used to seeing switching defenses,(hid one on one D) now that we are man to man, our "D" will suffer somewhat, until the players catch up.

If Keith keeps his upward trend this season, I see a possible Jacob E. scenario were Keith gets Drafted in the upcoming draft. Let Harvey play before it's to late. He's the next best thing to Keith, and 2 slashers opens up the 3.

Jarron's got to get healthy, and understand what he needs to be for this team period. Hurt or not we had our chances, and he threw up a ton of garbage shots. His body language stinks, and he's just not ready to physically compete for 35 minutes.

That game should have been stolen by UC.

We are going to have to work with Vogt given the fact that Brannen seems to play Diara only out of necessity (even with Sorolla out).

Diara's mobility and skills should fit in very nice...so once again...there is more than meets the eye with Diara and the eye isn't saying nice things either.

I am sure he would be a better option on D but I can't really say if he is missing assignments to help etc. If we can keep Vogt in the paint he is very efficient on offense. Brannen wants quick decisions to be made and from what I can tell Diara isn't the best at making those.

Our defensive efficiency is better than our offensive efficiency. There's no mystery to how those are calculated. I'd say offense is still our biggest problem.

Which is why if I’m Diarra, I transfer before the end of the semester.

Brannen clearly doesn’t want to play you and you’d have 2.5 years of basketball left. If he likes UC as a school then stay. But for basketball, he should leave now for his personal development.

Diara needs players that think and play fast for him to be successful. He doesn't lack confidence, just isn't being put in position to be successful. Our PG's have to start breaking the D down, right now they are just running the offense. As long as the offense starts above the 3pt line, Diarra, and Scott will be ineffective. Our guards have to drive and DISH, not just drive and kick. Have we had any alley oops thrown from the PG position this year? That's a lack of confidence in our bigs from the PG position.

It's amazing these guys haven't figured out this friendly offense yet. They need to play with confidence and have some fun. Nobody looks like their having fun yet.

I agree it's time to shake things up just a little. Hand MAW the keys for the time being. Scott (and Brannen) need to fire up the troops. Williams looked like the most excitable guy out there during the X game and he's a pretty chill guy. Time to start having some fun and leave it all out there on the court. Cumberland and Brannen need to get on the same page. I don't like how he is being used and I don't like how he's reacting either. He's holding the ball too long...he needs to catch and go/shoot (or pass). He seems to be wanting to play Cronin ball and dribble around long enough to make a play but that is not what the new system demands and he doesn't seem near as effective coming off the wing as opposed to the top of key or shoulder anyway.

It's time for Brannen to lay it on the line and change the chemistry out there.

or he can start playing better basketball when he gets a chance?

When Brooks guards him man, they score a paltry 0.72 ppp, which was better than 86% of the nation

If it's possible to look at last year how many 3's was brooks responsible for guarding all of last year?

im intrigued as to how our defense covers the 3 point shot with our bigs compared to how we did it last year.

I agree with this. If I'm Diarra I transferbecause Brannen clearly has no interest in bigs who play excellent defense. If Brannen is going to play the better offensive big (regardless of how bad his defense is), than Diarra is not going to get minutes. And the only way Diarra is going to improve is get minutes.

There are plenty of coaches with a Cronin defense first mentality, especially when it comes to bigs.

I’ll look when I’m home later.

Keep in mind, Brooks was the guy guarding the 40 year old bald white guy on Wichita state and did it pretty damn awesome. He contested and he missed the game winner. Uc won.
