Your perfect rotation for conference play

You conveniently left out the fact that GG is probably our best on court defender. Minor point.

Give me the player who give up 6, but puts in 10 over the guy who gives up 2 and scores 2 every time!

5 on 5...Caupain clones vs. Guyn clones...who wins?

If it is street ball, I'd probably go with Guyn clones. If there is some discipline, thinking, play calling, etc. involved, I'd go with Caupain clones.

I agree about KJ not playing enough in the second half. He was probably our best player in the first half. I get your point on JS too...he's solid and experienced. My problem between him and guys like ST and KJ is that both of them can create shots for themselves. I would say the majority of JS points come when someone passes the ball to him while he is open. Most of these guys can make open shots. My preference would be to have the guys on the court who can create shots for themselves with a man on them. These are the guys that can cause a defensive breakdown when they beat their man and someone else has to come help.

No doubt. The big test for Sanders will come as the competition gets tougher. He handled the patsies pretty well. How will he do against Memphis, Louisville, and UCONN. Shaq and KJ may be better suited to lace em up against more athletic competition.

really think Rubles is our best defender.
I'm not so sure about that. If you go back and look at the box scores, the Bigs have done the scoring vs us. The guard scorers have been pretty much shut down. Last game GG was only in 8 minutes, but Gallegos scored 10 over his average. This is strictly a D discussion. TC outplays GG on O. The types of turnovers are different. GG throws the ball away while TC gets stripped driving (probably has something to do with dribbling up to his armpits). At least TC takes some incentive. And he smiles. I think GG is too tight - playing too serious and not enjoying the game. TC looks like he's having fun.Mental attitude is very important at this stage.

I don't know why we are even discussing this. Better on D or not, Caupain has flat outplayed GG. It isn't close. Guyn has to start using his strength and athleticism to drive and create. He is the one guy I see still not asserting himself. I like Guyn, he just is more suited to a back up role at this point.

I will say on Guyn's behalf that his shots look good, they're just not falling. He's had numerous rattle the rim. I wouldn't say he's forcing up shots nor would I say he's taking bad shots. He probably could use a slightly softer touch and could definitely look to put the ball on the floor and drive more often. When he is in at point a lot he's not out at the top of the key like you want your pg. He's usually out on the wings and he doesn't move or make many cuts. He just doesn't seem to be active and definitely not aggressive on offense. His defense has been good and he's done a good job of not fouling as much as he did his first two years. He keeps his hands up when the other pg brings the ball up the court. He kind of goes against the stereotype we like to hang on Mick with his players in that I think he's the better defender but I think Caupain gets the minutes because of offense. Mick always says he tells his players to be more aggressive on offense and when they're not he pulls them. Guyn and Shaq definitely fall into this category, although Shaq's defense doesn't help him either.

Guyn's issues are he can't distribute the ball. Knocking down a jumper or two is not the primary role of the PG. Getting the ball to others when they are in position to score is one of his primary roles. Also bringing the ball up against pressure is also a role. In short he doesn't make good decisions with the ball. Caupain is much the better player filling the role of PG. Going forward I think you'll see Guyn's role diminish. Think MC used the OOC portion of our schedule to help gain the freshman some experience. It would surprise me if going forward Troy doesn't get most of the minutes.of course foul trouble could play a big part.

I can agree to that. My point was more to those complaining about his shooting woes. The first thing you have to do to distribute the ball is to have the ball in your hands. Usually when he's in the half-court offense he's playing the role of shooting guard and Kilpatrick tries to faciltate the offense for whatever reason. I do think he's a better ball-handler than Caupain. I don't think there's a person on this board that when giving the eye-test wouldn't rather see Caupain in at this point. I hope Guyn picks it up because he does have some good qualities to him. I think he can be every bit as good as Cash was in a perfect world. His handles are about as good, he seems to have a good shot, although Cash his senior year almost seemed automatic when left open out there and his defense is just as good and he's shown the ability to get to the rim when motivated. Cash's stats will be better but he had more playing time earlier and no back-up to rely on (ironically, Guyn) so it's not really a fair comparison, but with Guyn's skill set I think he's a very similar player. I think Guyn would be better suited playing alongside Caupain at this point. He has to shake his funk, which he will at some point, but if the two were in together you could use Guyn as pg in the full court and on defense and switch him to the sg role once you set up in the half-court. He obviously won't be stealing Kilpatrick's minutes, but I wouldn't mind seeing them on the floor as much as possible. The problem is I think Mick for good reason is just using the two as each other's back-ups, subbing one out for the other.

David I don't rate Guyn nearly as high as you. That is not saying your wrong but I don't see it. At best he is a back up.

My post may have been misleading. I think he has that skill set, at this point in time his on the court results show that he is a back-up to me as well. He just has some flashes here and there that make you wish for more.

sometimes I think he was put in the PG position by default. Really think he would work much better as a off guard. Kid plays hard but just seems miscast to me. Last year there was really no one else and this year he is the only player with experience at the position.

The same could be said for most pgs, but I agree. He has the ability to drive, but seems relegated to want to shoot and I've never seen much out of him that shows he can run an offense and get other people shots. He does handle the ball well, which anymore will lean you towards pg.
