Charles Mitchell Mulling Offers

Charles Mitchell, a 6-foot-8, 260-pound power forward from Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler, is mulling various offers and plans to sign in the spring.

The Rivals No. 12 big man in the Class of 2012, Mitchell told SNY.tv that Maryland, Tennessee, Florida State, Seton Hall, Florida, Memphis and Cincinnati were the schools recruiting him the hardest.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State are also involved.

Wheeler begins playing in the state tournament next weekend, so Mitchell may visit a school the first weekend in March, with other visits to follow.

“I’ll most likely plan a visit the first weekend in March,” he said.

He has already taken unofficials to Seton Hall, Tennessee and Georgia.

Mitchell said he’s close friends with Tennessee freshman Jarnell Stokes but that that “wouldn’t affect my decision.”

Seton Hall will need a low-post scorer next year after Herb Pope leaves.

“I know they have great guards, a great backcourt, that young kid [Aaron Cosby] they have up there,” Mitchell said of Seton Hall. “They’re looking for a low-post scorer when Herb leaves.”

Wherever he lands, that’s what Mitchell plans to bring.

“I’m going to be a low-post scorer and offensive and defensive rebounder,” he said. “That’s what I am right now.”

Mitchell said he plans to sign in April but remains open as of now.

“I’m looking for the best fit for me,” he said.

I think Mitchell is exactly the type of player this team needs next season. He is a low post player, knows it and plays within his skill set. He can score and he gives them a wide body defensively and for rebounding. He also seems to play his best against good competition. It is an element this team needs. Thru strength and conditioning he'll cut probably 15 pounds and lose body fat and still have a Big East body. He has the size to contribute in some capacity.

The teams he is considering are Maryland, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia, Cincinnati, Seton Hall, Florida and Virginia. He will take 3-4 visits and the only one he has set in stone at this point is Maryland.

I shot well over 100 FTs a day in my playing days...

I once made 54 FTs in a row...maybe more, I've lost count...

I once made 23 THREES in a row...

I once made 10 THREES in a row in the run of play...

I only shot 78% from the FT.

Mental midget? Maybe. Idk. Regardless...........there are players that can't shoot like me and shoot a much lesser percentage. Maybe it is a mental impediment. Maybe it is form. I don't have the answer. I know confidence helps even the worst shooters, like myself.

I'd take that bet if I had a few weeks to get back in form. I'm 10 solid years removed from playing days.

Going to say 50-50. They have made more of an effort recently with Mitchell.
