Basically confirmed wat I told you guys I've heard. He doesn't put in the work to be better.

If he hits the weights I want him starting at the 5. Whens the last time we had a mean SOB down low. Come on people! Get that intimidation back. Cheik and Dave looked like they might **** themselves.

Keep the mean mug. I want a guy who can play.

There is just no sense in me talking to you people about JJ especially in May, I guess we will have to wait til next year.

Points are NOT the only stat that matters and when I see people say things like that it makes me realize how little you understand the game of basketball. You can talk about how much he turns the ball over all you want.

He changes peoples shots or gets a steal in 90% of the plays on the defensive side enough said............... anything he contributes on offense is gravy.

We don't need him to score, we will have plenty of scorers next year we need a defender and right now he is THE ONLY PROVEN DEFENDER ON THE TEAM.

Ha. Sorry this is an incredibly ignorant argument. He isn't even that good at defense. Between his stupid fouls (see the Marquette game for some evidence), lazy perimeter defense, and his great ability to fall for ever shot fake, there is very little to like about his defense.

And who are these "plenty of scorers next year"? You mention he is the only proven defender, so who is the proven scorers? SK. Who else?

Mbodj was a damn good defender and he may not have put on a mean face after every block (even when the ball was still in play), he was much more of an intimidator inside than Jackson.

SK Thomas and Lawrence will all score more than 13 ppg, and someone said SK is a better defender than JJ......... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA................. wooooooooh....

That was a funny joke

I never said SK was THE BEST DEFENDER ON THE TEAM IN THE WORLD OMG HE IS SO GOOD, like you did JJ. I just said I think SK is a better defender than JJ, which I dont understand why you think is funny.
What makes JJ a better defender than SK? Please explain because everything youve tried to say so far about JJ has been flat out wrong. Which was also stated in the article someone posted that basically said JJ was awful this year.

Finding defensive stats are hard to find since there is no real stat that shows you shut down the guy you are guarding. But to me, and im sure anyone else who knows the game of basketball, and your comments show you dont know as much as you claim you do. A good defender is someone who DOESNT COMMIT DUMB FOULS. Or many fouls in general. So if JJ fouls out every game, chances are his defense isnt as good as you would think. So again...How can someone be as good of a defender as you claim, If they cant stay on the floor more than 20 minutes a game because of their idk.....defense?

But the stats I did find were rebounds and steals. Which in both categories JJ is behind SK. But those stats dont really say too much though.

I think your love for JJ has blurred your vision. Im referring to the Justin Jackson who played for the University of Cincinnati, not the Justin Jackson who just committed to North Carolina.

I get what you are saying but I disagree about the fouls part. In college basketball, too many fouls are called (or not called) on reputation alone. Look at Aaron Craft from OSU. The guy fouls more than anyone in the country but it just doesn't get called because he is "the greatest defensive player of all time." His reputation allows him to get away with more than other players. Look at how many touch fouls were called on Cash this year. You didn't see those called on Craft with much more contact. Because of this discrepancy, you can't look at number of fouls as a judge of someone being a good defensive player, at least not by itself. And yes, I think JJ fouls too much in unnecessary situations. If he worked to correct that (and there is nothing saying that he will or has) I think he would be one of the best defenders on this team. He needs work on his lateral quickness but his weak side help defense is the best on the team.

Yes, I get what youre saying about craft, but thats not the case with JJ. His fouls arent touch fouls, they are, for the most part, bad fouls. Yes everyone fouls, I get that, but hes just very good at it.

I think JJ has all the athleticism, size and ability to be a great defender and possibly player, but that is something we havent really seen from him. I dont really like using the word lazy when describing an athlete, especially one who doesnt look lazy at all. But JJ plays a lazy defense. Im not going to say all, because he is a hell of a shot blocker, but a good amount of his blocked shots come from him getting beat by his defender or being in the wrong place at the right time(and I hate using this word too, but getting kind of lucky) that resulted in a block from behind

I never said JJ's fouls were touch fouls. Read what I said. JJ fouls too much and in unnecessary situations. My point about Craft and fouls in general was that it is not a stat that tells you anything about how good someone is defensively.

I never said you did..which now that I re-read what I said, it may have come off that way. But No I was just saying I understand what you were getting at with the touch fouls

Oh, so Lawrence is a proven scorer? Glad the Nostradamus in you is so certain as to what a freshman will score. And Thomas? Based on what? I sure hope so but he is the furthest thing from a proven scorer.

Saying SK is a better defender is not a ridiculous argument. JJ is not a very good defender.

Alright, I've heard enough, I'm not going to argue about something that know one will know who is right about until 7 months from now.

Gee, what going on with the recuitment of Sidy?

No clue how accurate that reporter usually is, but this is something that has been brought up by both Clemson and Memphis fans on their respected forums, so there seems to be multiple people from both of those sides hearing about this (it doesn't appear that this article was the source for all of them, but I could be wrong). With respect to Djitte, I'm not sure he's the caliber of recruit that a program goes out of their way to hire on someone to lock up a commitment (particularly, when said program already has a consensus top five class locked up), so this may be an incidental case that just so happens to influence a prospect's decision, rather than a deliberate coach-recruit package hiring that you sometimes see with top prospects.

I am with you...as well with others. Anyone who has watched the program knows that JJ is a FLASHY defender and can come up from behind and block shots and is fairly good at getting a steal. But...BUT...he is NOT a great post up defender so far as I have seen and hasn't shown the ability to keep people out of the paint which we will need soon. He is definitley a good JUMPER and has a great motor. But he is not a great defender...he is decent.

So we have a decent defender and a poor offensive guy that is likely our starting center. A foul prone and generally high rate turnover guy. He's a FANTASTIC spark plug for any team. He COULD show drastic improvement but he hasn't done so in 3 years so far. I don't expect it.

If JJ is better than DN at center...then I think Strickland has a GREAT chance of earning either big minutes or a starting job by seasons end. We just aren't strong there and that's not to knock our team. We aren't strong at PG either and I think 4 different guards have a chance to earn that position as well and that includes freshmen.

Well said. The 5 spot is completely up for grabs to whoever wants it. I say we run a small lineup with Thomas, Lawrence, and Rubles as our 3,4,5 if you will with Jackson as the 6th. We won't have to bang down low very much this year with the new conference so I figure its worth trying. It won't happen, but I would think that would be better than DN, Jackson or Strickland there if none of them are ready to start actually on the block.

Based on the article, he was going to Clemson, but now may follow a potential coaching hire to Memphis.

Either way, UC is out.

Time to move on.

Said on his twitter it is down to Clemson and Cincinnati.
Would really like to sign this recruit. He fills a position of need and is the defensive compliment to Strickland.

We could then let the new guards compete for PG position.

It would also light a fire under JJ. Minutes will be hard to come by at the 4 with Lawrence and Rubles and the 5 will be a compettiton with Strickland and Djitte. If the senior wants to see the court he better be doing what he should have been dong since his freshmen year, have a good off season of work.
