He might be talking about Jimmy Williams.

http://www.gotigersgo.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/williams_jimmy00.html

But he never played in the NBA. Has a good looking resume though and has coached 35 guys who ended up in the league and was the assistant to Flip Saunders one year.

Also noticed Damon Stoudamire is an assistant. Which will definitely help their guard play

I was referring to Jimmy Williams, I meant a coach with former NBA experience, not playing experience in the NBA.

I'm not trying to turn this into a Mick Cronin sucks thread or knock him really at all. I'm just stating the facts, that Mick has recruited these types of guys with regularity since he's been here and none of them have really panned out.

So to someone who isn't too invested in following recruits, who comes to this board and sees a ton of posts about Siddy, I'm not to excited when I hear that this is another kid who doesn't have much experience playing the game. If anyone can tell me why I should be excited for the possibility of this kid becoming a Bearcat I'm all ears.

Get what your saying, but multiple recruiting analysts have said that he has lots of potential. He reminds me of Cheikh-before you start rolling your eyes, remember 2 things:1) we only had Cheikh for 2 years, one of which he was hurt and it caused him to be overweight and ineffective and 2) he would've made for a solid backup. If Sidy can come in and put up 5 ppg and grab 5 boards, maybe a few blocked shots, not foul as much as Cheikh, he could be a solid backup to Strickland. Also, JJ is bulking up, he could provide a few good minutes at 5. Lawrence, Rubles, and Jackson could share time at the 4. Shaq and Sanders could be the 3s. SK and someone else at the 2. PG, who knows. Besides SK, every other position is up for grabs. That's what Mick wants, we need a few more pieces thrown into an already good team to make it even better. Position battles, good young players, a few intriguing returners, could be good or it could be bad.

@sportstalksc
Sidy Mohamed Djitte coach says probably no decision today. Its Clemson, Memphis or Cincy.

Solid backup to Strickland??? WTF are you talking about? When has a freshman came in here and played big minutes at the 5? JJ get it together brother. These boys are not Yancy. Mick better start JJ or Rubles at the 5.

I can't say I'm too excited either but ultimately I'll leave that decision up to Mick. To say both UC and the recruit would be better off if they didn't end up together is a lot different than saying you aren't excited about a player.

Either way it isn't good. JJ and Rubles cannot play the 5 and any freshman big man, barring a top 10 recruit, would struggle to earn PT right away. Not looking good from that standpoint. Hopefully this brings out the best in Mick; he is going to have to get creative to hide the deficiencies.

You don't know and neither do I. He is a good scorer who has been compared to Zach Randolph by some recruiting analysts, big lefty, soft hands, and good post moves. Here is what Mick said about him: I told him he's coming here to score. He is a low post scorer with great hands. Every year, there are surprise players-Kadeem Batts from Providence is a perfect example. Not highly touted or from a school that has developed a good big recently. Plus, we have had to take big projects in the past because we weren't a big program. Kelvin Gaines only scored 10 ppg in HS, we really only had Cheikh for a year, really Biggie is the only big guy you could complain about.

Really, I forgot Kadeem Batts was a top 10 recruit. There are always surprise players, Strickland has a good chance to be that guy.

First, Batts redshirted his freshman year. Second, there are exceptions to every rule. If you want to go on and expect Strickland to have a big impact go ahead, but history tends to agree with the other side.

My point: hold your complaints until you actually see the person play live. Too many people rush to judgement, just because history points somewhere else. I think Strickland could be a sleeper and a bigger impact than some think, but we won't know until he sets foot on campus and we see him play live.

It wasn't a complaint. I like the prospect of Strickland, I just don't expect a big impact for day 1.

Here is what we lose. Mooj. Good defender and that's about it. Wasn't exceptional at rebounding or scoring etc. I think a beefed up JJ will be OK in the same capacity although we will constantly be in foul trouble. That's OK we have Nyarcuk, Gaines, and Strickland for minutes.

The best scenario here is that Strickland gets it right away. However if he doesn't, I think he will be used a lot anyway especially when we need some offense down low to take pressure off the perimeter.

If you thought we were bad last year at the 5, and you think this year might be bad, what about next year when we lose or will have lost JJ, Nyarcuk, and Gaines? We will be left with Strickland as the only low post with experience. Getting Djitte makes sense to me in that regard. We would have an offensive option and a human eraser to build with guards we brought in. Getting PG and C out of the way for the next 2-3 years would be a welcome change as Mick is very good with combo guards and wings.

Of course we may get a freshman big next year or a juco...but how much is that going to do for us? The jucos haven't been great and freshmen generally need a year to get it

It's just comical to me that some people think JJ won't be starting at the 5

won't be? or shouldn't be?

he may start because they have no options but if that's the case might as well let DNy go now. JJ will not be good at the 5.

You know...Gogui Dieng was a 3 star recruit too...not every African native is a "project". I actually find it exciting that he's only played a little and managed to have games in high school where he puts up 28 or such, what did Gaines avrerage in high school, 10 ppG?

I just dont see the comparison to mbodj and Nyarsuk. Just because they are from Africa they are the same players? I dont think there is anything to say other than thats stupid.

mbodj went to JUCO, and im going to say it was for obvious reasons and he wasnt ready for D1 ball. And we really only had 1 year with him. His first year was, just like every juco player, a learning year. And him being over weight and injured didnt help him at all. So technically this was his first year removed from juco and still learning. That is a HUGE downfall in bringing in JUCO players. They are supposed to be a little more polished than high school players and ready for D1 ball. But the big east is not just your average D1 ball. Its a lot quicker and rougher.

Nyarsuk would still be in 1 AA or whatever division he was in. So trying to compare him to Siddy just doesnt work.

Little fun fact. Strickland is the FIRST high school big recruit the bearcats have landed since Gaines. Sidy would be the second if they get him. Meaning Sidy is NOT like Mbodj or Nyarsuk.(yes I heard rumors Nyarsuk would have gone D1 if he passed some english classes, but that is hard to believe and again BIG EAST BASKETBALL is completely different than other conferences) We are not in the "big east" any more and some of these conference games wont have the same style of play. Playing a Houston wont be as rough as playing a marquette or Cuse.

Again Sidy is not like our past "juco" bigs. He isnt going to go JUCO. He is ready for D1 ball now. It is a completely different scenario as he will be a guy you have 4 years to work with. And who knows, he could be a contributor after the first half of the season or atleast next season. The guy has put up over 30 points in a game. That is something gaines, even in high school never did. And you can tell when he gets on the court. Its a lot easier to teach a guy defense than it is to teach a guy how to make buckets. But it seems as though this guy is a pretty good defender

I don't see how UC is going to make room but the fact is that UC is extremely weak at the 5 position. Also as has recently been pointed out, as bad as it is this year, it could be worse next year. So the reality of the situation is, if UC is somehow going to have a scholarship available for Sidy and Mick thinks Sidy is either a quality player or the best they can get, then they have to take a chance (again, maybe he is a stud but my points the same). They need some bigs. I mentioned this a long time ago before they got KJ, Caupain, Morman, etc..I was hoping for two centers in this class if at all possible.

All the banter concerning is he like are previous recruits is laughable. I also enjoy the conversation about how will we fit him on the team without a scholly.

Here are some thoughts.
1. If Mick is still recruiting bigs he must feel the need. He also must not be happy with our current options.

2. as for how he'll fit without scholly's availale I'm sure mick will work that out or he wouldn't be offering one to Djitte. Mick is not a idiot he has a plan.

3. if Mick is offering he must see value in the player or he wouldn't be offering. Especially since he'll have to make room for him.
