Good article on Evans I saw listed down in the headlines thread:

Like how he says "we" when talking about the team improving it's scoring next year. Also liked what the coach said about him and his work ethic.

My favorite part (in reference to the UK game):

"I really felt like they should have won that game," Evans said. "I'm pretty sure they felt the same way. It was just offensive execution. If they had just scored the ball a little better they would have been right there. They played the perfect defensive game against Kentucky. Once their defense is locked in, it's locked in. If we can work on scoring the ball, we'd be more of a threat instead of having to hold the other team to 40 points."

That might be my least favorite part. It's one thing for fans to say this, but to hear recruits talking about having to hold the other team to 40 points to win might give an idea why recruiting is not at the level it should be. Recruits have begun to take notice that the slow tempo, grind it out style that UC plays isn't just a one time/season thing.

Well, the tempo picked up towards the end of last season, so if we continue on that trend and are able to start scoring a lot this upcoming season, recruits should notice that as well, and maybe our recruiting will really pick up.

I don't know...the coach has been pretty vocal about scoring more recently. I am guessing Evans is just piggy backing on what Cronin has been telling certain recruits..."We need more guys who can score the rock".

It could be a little of both but I think Cronin is trying to use it to his advantage that he is making scoring more of a priority in recruiting.

Well our head coach wasn't coaching those games. Even so, what was the adjusted tempo of those games? I thought they were still extremely slow?

He has been saying this from day 1. If I had the time I could go back to every off-season and find quotes from him saying they are going to run, "we have the horses now", they'll average 70/game, etc. Lots of others said they would be fast tempo this year and I kept telling everyone that it just isn't how Mick likes to play. He fears turnovers too much and he likes to micromanage the game. Can't do that in a fast tempo offense.

Gotta scrap the zone. At least against the garbage teams. Also gotta stop taking 8 seconds walking it up when no one is guarding us. That stuff just drains the clock. It should be on our older guys to run up to the score in some games so Moore, Evans, Jenifer and Scott can all get PT.

It's funny, in the CJ Walker article I posted yesterday, he specifically said he wants freedom. He doesn't want the team to have to look at the coach the whole game. I'm really hoping the health situation forces Mick to loosen up during games.

I love how it talked about how hard he works, wants to major in Accounting or a similar field and he has the point skill set, but transitioned to the wing as he grew. I think he is coming in at the perfect time. He can backup Shaq and learn from him, then take over his starting role his second year. He's only 17 so he might still grow a couple inches while here. He might end up being our favorite Bearcat. Hard worker, good size, listens to his coach and he does sound like a really good kid.

He should give our returning guys a run for starting SG or SF. Of course, a FR 6'5" guy at the bottom of the zone isn't ideal (...even more reason to scrap it). But nothing should be handed to Shaq. I want him to be the guy showing all these guys how to work and how to lead by example. But if he isn't producing, and he starts just bc he's been here the longest, I won't be on board with that.
