He should give our returning guys a run for starting SG or SF. Of course, a FR 6'5" guy at the bottom of the zone isn't ideal(...even more reason to scrap it). But nothing should be handed to Shaq. I want him to be the guy showing all these guys how to work and how to lead by example. If he isn't producing, and he starts just bc he's been here the longest, I won't be on board with that.

I think he definitely starts the beginning of the season (going off Mick's track record), but who knows by January and beyond. Hopefully Evans gets here and makes an immediate impact and takes that spot. Shaq did good coming off the bench and he seems to calm down by the end of the year.

Well our head coach wasn't coaching those games. Even so, what was the adjusted tempo of those games? I thought they were still extremely slow?

He has been saying this from day 1. If I had the time I could go back to every off-season and find quotes from him saying they are going to run, "we have the horses now", they'll average 70/game, etc. Lots of others said they would be fast tempo this year and I kept telling everyone that it just isn't how Mick likes to play. He fears turnovers too much and he likes to micromanage the game. Can't do that in a fast tempo offense.

I hear you but I think we might be talking about two slightly different things. I am not talking about Cronin adjusting tempo and running. I am talking about finding guys who are more efficient at scoring and can play basketball and are not just athletes.

You might be right...we may not see anything change

It'll be interesting to see how we use Evans. If he starts with Caupain and Clark, he may need to be more of a spot up shooter and scorer, since those guys can create. Off the bench, he may need to use his PG skills to help set the table for the 2nd team guys who can't create their own shots. I'd be interested to see Jenifer start at PG and Troy at SG, then have Cobb come off the bench with KJ and Evans. Our coaches say every spot is up for grabs every year, but I'm not so sure that is really true. I feel like Caupain is the starting PG and Shaq is the starting SF. But we'll see.

We have pretty much all basketball players over athletes at this point. If we want to keep our slow pace, but be a more efficient team, then we need to shoot more 3s in the half court. Like Wisconsin. Imo it doesn't make sense to work yourself to death for 30 seconds against a set defense, all to get 2 points. Especially when you work yourself to death on defense as well.

Yeah I think Caupain, Clark and Ellis automatically start next year

I don't know...the coach has been pretty vocal about scoring more recently. I am guessing Evans is just piggy backing on what Cronin has been telling certain recruits..."We need more guys who can score the rock".

It could be a little of both but I think Cronin is trying to use it to his advantage that he is making scoring more of a priority in recruiting.

I agree with this. But at some point, we need to translate that talk into results on the scoreboard.

I think after seeing what Cobb did for this team, I think Mick and the coaches will look for the pure scorer that will really help the team instead of the lengthy and athletic players. Or at least have 1 or 2 pure scorers on the team to help out.

@JonRothstein
NCAA team for sure. Jacob Evans is the X-Factor. Big time scorer in HS. https://t.co/aKXUYAmbzu

Link doesn't go directly to his reply here you go : https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/591633422537351168

I'll add going through all of his tweets and replies you can tell Rothstein lives and breathes college basketball. Nobody in the nation knows more about all 350+ D1 teams than he does. The only thing is he isn't critical very often just loves every single player in the nation. Hard not to get amped up when he talks about your players/team.

I definitely agree here. I have seen a slight change in recruiting so it will need to translate on the court the next couple of years...and I think it will.

I would love to see run and gun and fun but efficiency is all I really care about in the end. We know we will be efficient on D...we have to be in the top 25 or so on offense as well to have a team we can call a "contender".

That's the main difference to me between now and "then". This NCAA tourney streak (while it is a step in the right direction) does not feel like we had any real "contenders". I would rather miss the dance 4 times in a row and then have 1 contender than to make the dance 5 times in a row with no contenders.

I'm confident tc, Cobb, shaq, clark, and Ellis start next year. Very experienced and proven lineup. Shaq is a two year returning starter it will take a very impressive showing for evans to take that spot

I agree, but if KJ works on his handles and off the dribble shooting he could be a candidate as well. I hope he puts some work in this summer. He should walk around campus dribbling a tennis ball

If Shaq hasn't improved from this year Evans will take minutes away from him- much better form on shot, much more physical and will be able to get it to the post players which Shaq has not been able to do.

I was just looking at a instagram photo of Tre Scott and Jacob Evans and they looked the same size. Could Evans have grown to six ft. seven.

I saw all three freshmen at walmart in western hills a little over a week ago. It looked to me that Scott had some inches on Evans.

Don't think a freshman is going to be more physical than an SR

Well most (updated) sites have Evans listed at 6'6", and Scott at 6'7". It's just an inch, so I bet it's tough to tell any height difference.
