If the roster holds true as it is now, Brooks won't be redshirted. Which doesn't bode well for his progression and wastes a year of eligibility. Unintended consequences for not finishing this class strong.

very bold for a guy we haven't seen play yet.

We played last year with 4 bigs and red shirted Scott. If Brooks is better than Quadri as a backup 5 then I say don't redshirt him. If he's not (we won't even need him because Q will get all the minutes)...then he's a 4 year project and we haven't had any luck with those. It's one thing to redshirt a guy like SK to not waste a year. It's another thing to keep a project for 5 years on the roster and waste one year of a scholly we could give to someone else better qualified.

We will see which one we are dealing with soon enough I guess. Either way I don't see this as being a significant problem. We have plenty of depth at the 4/5. If we don't currently have quality backup minutes behind the starters...that is further evidence of recruiting issues.

While the jury is still out on how brooks will turn out. I think the difference between other projects and Brooks is he has been playing against some of the best players in the country all year long while some of our bigs from the past did not. So hes playing against the best competition and playing well. Completely different than NCAA competition, but still gives me hope he wont be like Gaines

The areas the staff has been beating the bushes for this off season have been a wing and a Grad transfer big. That in itself should be very telling as to what the staff thinks are needs are heading into next year.

The idea that Quadri is our best backup at 4 and 5 would be a bit scary. I certainly hope Scott and Brooks improve rapidly and work their butts off for playing time.

I can't imagine why Scott couldn't play the part Cronin would want him to play (more so than Q). He's athletic, likes to rebound, should be able to defend, etc. Is he just not getting the scheme? Brooks probably needs to get himself in shape...but I can't imagine his mobility would be much worse than Quadri. What exactly does Q offer that these two could not?

Provided nobody redshirts we have 2 likely starters at the 4 and 5 in Clark and Washington. We should have two backups at each position in Moore and Brooks and Moore and Scott.

If none of those 3 guys are very good we also have the option of playing 1 big and going with a small lineup (in foul trouble situations) whether that big is Clark or Washington. I think as long as we have 1 of those guys on the court at all times we should be OK.

Contrast that with the idea of having foul trouble or an ankle sprain to someone on the wing. If Scott is not a good option to run for 10 minutes behind Clark then we damn sure don't have a big that can slide into a perimeter position. Jenifer was one of the last options on the bench last year...so sliding over a PG is also scary. The only option left would be to play the remaining wings for all 40 minutes. There is not a single option there I like better than the options we have behind Clark and Washington.

Really think the issue in the post will be defensively. Ellis was a good defender. Hopefully Washington can give us both offense and defense. I'm not sure Quad can. Brooks is a Freshman and freshman seem to struggle defensively more then offensively. Scott will play effective defense and hit the glass while backing up Clark but has a bunch of work to do offensively. He'll also be subbing for a All league defender. My concern for this years team is being able to guard. Cumberland will struggle, JJ has struggled and Quad is terrible defensively. For me right now Washington is a complete unknown especially on the defensive end.

The wing will be KJ, Evans and Cumberland with TC sliding over if needed. JJ will need to step up his game so TC can be used on the wing when needed.

Again both the post and the wing could have used a bit more depth. Finding the right fit was not accomplished. May still happen but I'm not holding my breadthe

I agree. I actually think Scott should be able to provide the best option with his superior athleticism over Moore and Brooks. Simply sub Scott for Clark and keep Washington in...or sub Scott for Washington and use Clark as the 5.

He's the one with the motor. As long as he is capable of understanding the scheme...I can't see why he couldn't service as a Justin Jackson type from his freshman or soph year (perhaps slightly less athletic).

Troy and cobb struggled most out of all players that played real minutes last year. JJ like everybody else not named kj struggled with defensive rotations last year. Cobb, troy, and somewhat clark was bad on the ball defense
