He is bigger and more agile the John Reik. I think they do have the same pic with them touching the rim. LOL

We need frontline size this year. Speed is great, but there will be some Big East games where we will need to battle down low. Therefore, I would be very surprised if he was redshirted.

Great pickup. NO loss if he does not pan out as he is only here 2 years. Should not effect Chris Perry wanting to come here since Nyrausuk will only be here one year when Perry is

Yeah, I really don't see him red shirting. He should have sufficient time to fit in with the others.
Having him rotating to the 5 spot will be nice.
You got a shot blocker and a long tall presence, that will make drives very difficult. Having this many bodies, I'm expecting lots of pressing. I would like to see how good a zone defense with this kid in the middle would be though.
You figure, Nyarsuk/Mbodj + JJ/Rubles + Parker/Thomas/Sanders + Kilpatric/JDIII + Cash/Guyn, with Gaines seeing some minutes will be a pretty good rotation.
Really, other than the point, this isn't a short team at all.
I like the depth, we should be a lock to get past the first weekend, come tourny time.

This is a great pick up, the kid can run and finish at the rim. I see 10-15min a game. If he can board, I think a Beast Ship is not out of the question.

I'm just saying Mick has red shirted someone for the last four years, he definitely uses that to his advantage, he can't use it on gaines,
i wonder if maybe he would red shirt JD3 only because there are so many people that can play his position.

maybe. cronin said in retrospect that he wished he had redshirted Parker 2 seasons ago because it was too hard to get 6 guys minutes on the perimeter (at the 1-3). if they are running as much as cronin wants to, he might be able to get some more minutes though. if this starts to become a possibility, i think it depends on how much nyarsuk/mbodj can give us. if they turn out to not be able to start, we are going to need more perimeter players because we will be playing jackson at center and need more perimeter players.

also, it would add more balance to the classes, with shaq being the only freshman right now. regardless, i think it is a good observation that i hadn't really thought about until now.

I like it. I've thought about it too and would be very happy if it happened. Can't see him getting tons of minutes this season based on our back court depth.

As I see it the only risk in signing this kid is if we happen to get a lot of interest from the 2013 class. We aren't sacrificing any schollies this year to pick him up...because we still have one left.

It's a one year risk. If we look at this year we had two spots open...and until right now we only could fill one. Obviously we had another open up with Ellis. I don't think it's a big risk at all...I think it's a win win. A no brainer. We do have two guards committed for 2013...but we still are going to have at least 2 schollies to fill right. Get one more BIG and the best available after that.

and we need depth at the 5 THIS year. Even if next year we have so many recruits interested in signing...at the very worst we can "make room" somehow. I just don't see that scenario as being of concern as likely playing out.

At this point in time I am very happy something like this fell into our lap.

UC will still be 1 scholarship down, not if Mick will want to red shirt because of depth. JD III played last year, and no one came in that will take his minutes (Shaq may, but I think he'll take minutes from the "bigger" guard) + Dixon is gone.

who came in and took parkers minutes 2 years ago when cronin said he wished he redshirted him? he played a lot his first year. he was a point guard at that time and kilpatrick came in and got backup minutes for rashad and never played the 1 or 2. other things can happen that take away minutes from year 1 contributors.

my only point was that it is not out of the question. im not saying it will happen, just saying it is is something to consider. you cant play everyone, and its not worth burning a year for a guy who is going to be counted on to be a future major contributor when your only return is 2-5 minutes a night from them. i hope davis plays so well that this isnt even considered. but it certainly isnt off the table completely.

No way they redshirt JD3, he will need every min weather it be 1 or 40 per game He needs to be ready for 2k13-14. Cash, JP will be gone and SK could be gone. the mins are there anyway. Mick knows that Not redshirting JP was the best thing for him and the team.\

you know as much as anyone that you have to take what Mick says with a grain of salt. Parker had a very solid freshman year. You really think any coach in their right mind would redshirt a player after they have a good freshman year? how do you supposed Parker would have felt about that decision? he may not be here right now if he tried to pull that.
