Shaq practiced last season so he saw what it was like to play high D1 ball. Shaqs shot issue is correctable with repetition. He needs more lift on his outside shot. SK had the same problem. His ball skills and length will make him a match up problem for many teams.

I think Shaq Thomas before he leaves Cincinnati, will be a very good player. He still needs to get a consistant jumper though. Teams, especially this year, with our style of play, will fall back on defense and play zone to prevent the drive. The floor with Thomas is a moderately good sf, he packs on strength and gets a jump shot, he has the potential to be a lottery kid.

On the up side: Explosive athleticism, knows how to make smart passes in tight spots and has a great handle, for a guy his size.

On the down side: He's rail spike thin and will be physically man handled in the wrong place. He has to get a reliable jumper and then make it reliable beyond the arc. He's also never seen higher tier or any tier, for that matter, NCAA competition.

That's how I see it, anyway. A more mature body, he would have been a 5 star, rather than a 4.

But Gaines on the other hand...Gnomey says LOOK OUT!

I think the guy who will be fighting for minutes is shaq. Sanders is ahead of him at this time. Shaq is going to be a good one but I think it takes a year mentally and physically to get big minutes. Sanders is going to shock people this year. I think he has a kilpatrick like contribution similar to sk's first year. His shot is so smooth. He is a major weapon. I think Jd and Gaines are at the end of the bench but both are capable of doing some good for this team. Has anyone seen what guyn has done to his body? He is jacked. I am hoping and think he can turn into a tough player who causes havoc on defense. Word is rubles is tearing it up in workouts. His shot is ugly but he Is under control when he attacks the basket where jj is out of control. I do love jj as the hustle and energy guy just never expecting much offense from him except scrappy buckets. U always need a guy like that

I said if Gaines ever puts it together, he could be an excellent center.
I don't recall anywhere, having said that he was going to be a force this year.
Would you mind linking me to said comment, and if you can't, would you kindly stop attributing made up shit to my name I never said? Thanks in advance.

Sanders is the odd man out this year. He will be a fine player down the road but is know where near the type of weapon Shaq will be.

I agree with this.

When I first heard of Sanders, I was told he had a good b-ball IQ and knew how to score in various ways........it reminded me of SK.

The two guys most mentioned as most improved this offseason are SK and Sanders. And I expect Parker to be very good too.

I see Shaq spelling Sanders, but Sanders will get the most minutes unless Shaq simply adjusts quickly and turns it on suddenly, which I don't expect.

I think minutes are going to be spread out to the point you see guys averaging less than 30 minutes per game. This team SHOULD go 10 deep at all times. Cash, SK, Parker, JDIII, Sanders, Thomas, Mbodje, JJ, Gaines, Nyarsuk.

If they need someone to transfer, my guess is it will be Guyn. With KJ and Caupain coming in next season........and possibly Morman.........not sure where Guyn will get minutes unless he surprises and can capably handle backing up Cash.

No. Nowhere in that entire thread is there a post of mine, saying he would be a force this year.
Nowhere in your post do you quote me saying anything of the sort, therefor, we are left with the conclusion that no such comment exists.

I didn't suggest you said Gaines would be a force this year...but you clearly expect him to be unstoppable one day. Look out NCAA...KELVIN GAINES!!!

"If Gaines puts it together at some point, he'll be damn near unstoppable.
I think he will, but obviously, it's a project."

"Anyone with that build, and speed, with the addition of skills should be unstoppable. He just doesn't have the skills."

"....Yes, it does. His build, strength, length and athleticism, could render him unstoppable."

"His not seeing the floor, is explained by him not having skills. It has nothing to do with his body, athleticism or anything else. He's simply not a basketball player at this point. If you're 5'6, 120lbs and have a ten inch verticle, no matter your skill set, you shouldn't need me to explain why you can't be unstoppable in the post.
Likewise, if you have the physical gifts that Kelvin Gaines does, you shouldn't need me to explain why you can be. It's just obvious."

"I really can't explain it any clearer than that. If someone doesn't understand the position, there's no point in my explaining it any further anyway. He has everything you want in a post player, just not the skills."

Last year we had 12 men on the team who averaged about 8 minutes plus. With that in mind I am not sure it is that important to figure out the rotation rather than the minutes these kids will get (if not red-shirted). When I figure up my estimates I am about 5 minutes over so...I think whoever is not solid on defense is going to get less minutes. Here is about how I would break it down.

Killa...35
Wright...32
Parker...30
JJ...20
Mooj...20
Thomas...12
T-Rub...12
Guyn...10
(4 more players)...8

I would be surprised to see JJ or Rubles get any significant time at the low post since we have 3 other players where that is the only position they can play really. And JJ and Rubles are too light to bang down low. Some of these kids are going to be getting their minutes at the end of blowouts...or even early in the season as Mick tries to figure out who gives him the best chance. In the tough games I would expect about an 8 or 9 man rotation.

I for one don't expect too much from David Nyarsuk, he's a body with size that may give us a few minutes here or there when the guys running the floor get tired but I'm expecting nothing more than what we got out of Biggie McClain. IMO Mick's most glaring weakness has been his inability to develop and implement big men into his systems. That's why I'm thrilled with the way this team starting playing the middle of last season and I love the new offensive scheme that we seem to be committed to.

I see us being a lot more like the Villanova teams of a few years back this upcoming season. You still need size to rebound and enforce your will on defense but this team should be all about the run and gun and I think they will be. Should be a fun year, especially if Cash can build on what he did towards the end of last season.

Stop.
Yes, you did.
I asked the question

I don't recall anywhere, having said that he was going to be a force this year.

You replied with
Basically the entire thread entitled "New Style."

Further more, this discussion was of Shaq's upcoming season. So you were aware of the context of this conversation as being this season.
Now, either you're too stupid to read what I actually posted or you're so hell bent on being a soggy douche, that you can't let this Gaines thing go. In either case you are wrong.

The point I laid out, clear as day in the thread "New Style"
Why do I keep having to repeat myself?
He has all the tools physically to be a dominant center.
He has elite athleticism, the frame, the length, just not the skills.
That's the last time I'm going to say this, since I dived into why I felt this way, over and over again in this thread.
We know he is raw, has been raw and will still be raw this year.
...
My first post, I said "if he puts it together, he could be unstoppable".
Based on everything he has going for him, other than basketball skill, I feel he can thrive at his position.

The comment "if he puts it together", implies he may not.
I am not saying he will be a force, I am implying he could be.
So, you have lied about the context of my comments and you have chosen to ignore your own comments in this thread, to save face.
No one is saying Gaines will be unstoppable, only that he has the physical prowess to become that way.

If you're going to criticize, don't lie and don't twist words. That sort of faggotry has no place.
(No offense to homosexuals)

Sayin no offense is just annoucing that you just offended someone.

Like LL

Is that in reference to the poster on this board or the artist who went from Momma Said Knock You Out to singing R&B?
Actually, given that the lexical implications of words such as "faggot" have changed over time, I was just clarifying the context of my remarks. In this case, "faggot" is just a generic word, used to denote someone who exudes anti-social, inflammatory insinuations, in an effort to mock and attack others; not as a reference to those of homosexual orientation.

I'm fairly certain most people could come to that conclusion looking at my post.
Then again, given the Gaines argument, maybe I give people too much credit.

Agree 100%. The culture is there now (again) that if you don't play rock solid defense at Cincinnati, you will not play at all... with the options available this year who gets the majority of the minutes at the 5 and the backup PG spot will likely depend heavily on who plays the best defense/rebounds.

Yah...Cronin din't have much choice a few years ago. Today he can use the pine as a motivator like Huggs use to. It works. When you can't prove to a guy that you won't play him if he doesn't work his butt off...he won't learn. The bench is one of the best coaches out there
