Maybe 2-3 people on this board were UC fans when the last national championship was won. I find it amusing when fans set a bar they have never been familiar with or known as if it is a common thing. As a matter of fact, UC has seen 1 Final 4 and 2 Elite 8s since those championships. Since 1996 UC has been to 2 Sweet 16s, one of them by this coach.

While I 100% agree the university has to and needs to make basketball a priority in terms of athletic programs and their commitment to it, and agree we should dream big, let's not paint a picture that has never existed at this university. It simply is a distortion of the truth and takes away from what is currently being established.

UC needs to invest in facilities and make this program more attractive to top recruits. That is the next step and imo the most important one going forward.

I get your point, but our last final 4 was 22 years ago. The last elite 8 was 18 years ago. Many fans don't remember that either, and those that do are living in the past.

My point is, it's time to make some new memories. I remember sitting at Freedom Hall in 2000 watching the Bearcats in the C-USA tourny. Louisville was bad that year, as the Crumb reign was coming to a close, and a few Cardinal fans behind us were laughing at themselves for hanging onto the glory days of the 1986 team and it was time to move on.

While that is anectodal in nature, I think it is germaine to this discussion. It's time for this program to make some new memories. I consider winning games in March and going deep into the tourny making memories. The Sweet 16 in 2012 was fun. Last two years have ended in disappointment and that has become the rule rather than the exception for this university.

Maybe winning a national championship is a pipe dream, or as you say, setting the bar too high. But I think it's a defeatist attitude, and certainly won't attract any high level recruits.

Bottom line is it'a entertainment. UC lost a basketball game. We live in a nation $17 trillion in debt and with the lowest job participation rate in 38 yrs.,and a state with more people on welfare than employed. There are bigger things to worry about than this.

Haven't you heard, we all get free healthcare now! Be careful, however, as there are many scams out there for the healthcare.gov website. You know you found the right one if it doesn't work!

I do not mean aiming for national championships is too high a goal. I believe that is the goal and aspiration of this coach. What I thought you were implying is that is the culture already here and for that I apologize.

I absolutely want those long runs. I love UC basketball and as an all around lover of sports it is my crown jewel. My friend Jeff is with you on wanting that culture, I assure you.

Good points. Too many UC fans have a delusion that UC is a top 10 program. The Cats need to go out and prove it in March to earn that respect. Mick talks about the program being disrespected all the time but when you don't make significant runs in March you will not get that respect. Tired of him (and fans) whining about this.

Amen NTS, amen. I really got annoyed close to the end of the season. If UC would perform in March respect would come. It got real old hearing the players and coach talk about not being respected then not backing it up. AAC tourney and NCAA were prime examples.

I know we're all in the same boat and we have no control over the outcome of games. All we can do is donate our time and money and root like the dickens to be entertained. In the end I think we all just want to feel good about our team.

The two titles in the 60s were definitely in a different landscape, not to mention you only had to win 4 games instead of 6. Two wins meant final 4.

At any rate, I know Mick thinks we can win a title. For sure he's a bit biased like in 2011 when he thought we would've gone deep had we not been paired with UConn. But I know he believes it could happen with the right components and I admire that.

It's more reasonable that UC could win a basketball title before they win a football title (crazier things have happened), but unfortunately football drives the bus in this day and age. Everything is about growth, and that is where the growth lies.

On a side note. All these losses (Reds, Bengals, Bearcats) are weighing on me. The next postseason game I am seriously considering going on a long walk or to the movies for a few hours. Not sure I can take the stress of watching my beloved teams crumble. If they win it will be a pleasant surprise. Easier said than done.

Go Cats. Can't wait to make some new memories.

As you know I've been slammed for saying this. Have said for years UC is a good not elite program. It's just a fact. Winning cures all ills and as an optimist, I'm taking away from this season that the young guys got a taste of winning a league championship. Now let's build on it and take that into March.

8-24 on layup attempts against a small frontline.

How did we only lose by 4??

Jackson arguably played one of the worst games of his career and SK wasn't aggressive enough. Early bonus in the 1st half and no drives to the basket?

Overachieving year comes to a crashing halt. Do Xavier fans know that they don't advance because Harvard won? That joke of a fanbase cares more about use losing than they do winning. I guess they can hang another banner for a December win.
