I am rewatching the game on espnwatch now. The game was not as lobsided as it seems. Cincy dominated the insides with points in the paint. We had little success scoring around the basket. Offensively, your bigs scored at will.

You have one weak link: Dewberry. He's got great hands and length but he is out of shape. Upon receiving a feed inside, he takes a long time to gather himself. As a result, the he susceptible to getting stripped by weak side help and doesn't have the leg strength to get his shot off.

Cincy is better off posting clark or the other 6'10 230 pounder.

I thought DeBerry showed some pretty good agility against SDSU, he just needs to get a little more experience but it is coming. As for out of shape, we used to see the same thing on this board about Yancy all the time, but how many of us would love to see him here now?

4 years was one or two too many for me to watch Yancy Gates and his underforming lazy attitude. Would take both Ellis and Clark over him anytime. Both give great effort. Yancy came in with huge expectations and never lived up to them. He was a one and done player whose effort got him three additional years and no NBA career.

So you are telling me his recruiting classes of Sanders, Shaq, JDIII, Caupain, Lawrence, etc., have been centered around defense? Those guys were supposed to be offensively inclined players but for the most part never panned out. Still to be seen with Caupain but IMO he has a lot of work to do.

No im not telling you that. Im telling you that the last two recruiting classes have been offensively focused. They are not the long athletes with "potential" that we have been accustomed to. They are players who have specific skills on the offensive side of the ball. Im saying there has been a shift in recruiting focus. Moore and Clark are evidence of that.

I liked the zone defense Larry Davis went to at the start of the game. The problem was, he didn't know when to get rid of it. After VCU started to beat the zone one or two times, I would have ditched it. Problem is too many VCU guys penetrated causing help which caused the wings to be open for 3's. Exactly what VCU wanted to do. They spread our defense out real nice and capitalized on everything.

I'd like to see UC go down low more often too. All to many times, our guards missed open players either rolling from the pick or posting low and sometimes the guards threw the ball after the player was blanketed by a VCU player. Throw and score low and when VCU starts to focus or double team, then dish outside to Cobb or Caupain or Johnson. Johnson has done next to nothing. He misses frequently from 3 which is where we count on him. Johnson needs to produce each game with 10 points and a couple of 3's. In many causes these players are not productive. IS that the coaches fault? Sometimes.

I think the thing I miss most about SK was his ability to move without the ball and get open. So many times, I see our guys standing around and doing nothing on offense while one person dribbles. We need more movement, that is the key.

Yea because that defines his career as a Bearcat. (Note Extreme Sarcasm)

Senior starters playing 25 minutes without scoring a point is exactly the kind of problem we always seem to have. Why does he get a pass? We needed him to win a 1st round game and he delivered 0 points. The diamond in the rough types only have so high of a ceiling. We have seen that over and over again.

What? We had some of the best 3 seniors in the country last year. Are you actually saying Jaquon wasnt a good bearcat? I know it's a frustrating time right now but some of you are rewriting history to conform to your argument.

Wow, did you watch Vaughn as a senior? Lol...Dixon and Bishop....really? Sk.....loved him....but he really only had one great season. Caupain....jury's still out....did you watch him today? Clark.....wasn't he the POY in NC? Wouldn't classify him as a diamond in the rough. He was a 4 star. Logan....Cronin wasn't the head coach.

Kilpatrick is ranked second in all time points at the university. He didnt score all those points in one year. Your persistent negativity around the program is brutal and exhausting to read.

Few things then I'll move on bc I am straying us away from this thread's original topic...
1. Rubles was not one of the best seniors in the country last year.
2. Jackson was. But that was 100% bc of his defense.
3. I liked Parker, but he also drove me nuts. I remember Mick saying something about if he didn't reclassify then he would've been a top 10 recruit. But somehow in his 4th year in the program he was a 54% FT shooter. And he scored 0 in his last game. I definitely hold that against him. He was supposed to be one of our main guys and he let us down on the big stage.

That team does not make it a top 10 ranking without Titus. So yes he was. I dont ever recall Mick saying that. Saying he wasnt a good player because he had one game where he got INJURED (Yea I bet you forgot that part) and didnt play well is astronomically stupid.

Guys like Parker and Rubles as top 3 players on the roster = losing in the 1st round

I like those guys. They weren't bad players at all. But they simply can't lead you anywhere. That's the reality.

before i sy this i love parker. met him a few times and he is an outstanding guy.

but a diamond in the rough? was parker ever named first, second, or third team all conference in anything? he had two double doubles his whole career. he was a fine role player, but nothing more.

Vaughn had a great career, awsome pick up from cronin. Dion dixon averaged 13 pts a game as a season and thats playing in the big east..only good players do that. And sk averaged 9 pts as a freshman, 14 pts as sophomore, and 17 as a junior but only had a good seanior year...ya that makes sense. Bishop was one of the toughest players around any team in the ncaa would have been happy to have him

Well I never mentioned him in my list of diamonds in the rough. I was just defending his career as a good bearcat. Which he was. He was a role player and an important one on Mick's best team.

Not going to expect someone who doesn't regularly follow the team, but honestly it doesn't matter who we post. They never get the ball, and whenever someone tries to get it to them it gets easily picked off because the pass was errant or misinformed. Some of the younger guards bring a flashiness with them early in the season with ball reversals and quick behind the back entry passes but the post player or fellow guard never expects it and, again, turnover. It doesn't take long for them to dumb down their play after that and not even attempt such moves.

This is my problem with interior play, not just any one post player could fix it. As mentioned, maybe in another thread, they couldn't get the ball to Shaquille O'Neil if he were down low for us.

Teams will double down in the post because the team can't hit shots. The reason UC looked better against SDST is because they knocked down some shots, especially in the second half.
