Is Mick Leaving to Illinois?

UC misses a ton of open looks. The offense gets shots when they run it and don't dribble around. It's incumbent on the players to make them.

The fact that Mick had to address next seasons offense proves he even knows it was a joke this season.

He got the players to play hard on defense and they were able to make enough plays offensively based on talent to get by. Nothing wrong with that

The next step is to make it easier on his team to put the ball in the hoop. I applaud his acknowledgment of that, except I dont want to hear it, I want to see it!

You really think so? To me it was pretty obvious that a lot of the time i was a dribble weave and then going 1:1. I think it needs a lot of work. Of course, getting more talent (better 3 point shooters specifically at the 2and someone that can actually make a post entry pass that doesnt require the big man to come out to the 3 point line) will help.

Honestly, I thought it was pretty common knowledge and agreed upon that the offense was pretty bad and needed a lot of work.

yea, the offense was pretty bad all year. imo, they really struggled to get open looks and when they did, it the looks were open for a reason (e.g. - there is a reason no one guarded Dixon). Ball movement was poor and there was way too much pounding the ball.

It would also help to have a couple players that are able to create offense for themselves and break down a defense. UC didn't really have that player.

Are you talking about the offensive scheme, the players' offensive skills, the offensive results, or what? In general, no I don't agree that it was pretty bad and needed a lot of work. The trend of college basketball right now is that scoring in transition is easier than ever and half-court offense is harder than ever. Our team does somewhat reflect that. We also play at a slow pace and play against way more good defenses than good offenses. If you take a look at the Kenpom offensive ratings, we're top 50 in the country and that includes the mess at the beginning of the year. Do you think our offensive personnel warrants better than that? I don't.

Would I like to see us create more layups out of the halfcourt? Of course. Look around though, it just isn't happening unless you're a Syracuse or Kentucky. I'm all for trying anything to try to maximize our strengths to compete at the highest level every year. I think we all are. I think we did that this year. As long as we're doing that again next year, I don't care what offense we use.

Cincinnati is never going to be a VMI or Indiana who scores like 80 a night and gives up 70. This team improved down the stretch because they became a very good defensive team.

Right, and defense/deflections are the only reason this teams offense wasn't ranked lower. I'll take that for sure. But for anyone that watched them this year that thinks we don't need better ball movement and post entry...well...I'm not sure what to tell you.

Cincypaw, coldn't agree with you more. Losing Dixon won't hurt nearly as much as losing Yancy. Yancy was our ONLY post offensive threat and if you don't at least have a threat or option inside teams will squezze the daylights out of our perimeter game in the half court. Jackson and Modj will really need to elevate there games offensively to take pressure off of the outside game. Can't see us getting alot of points out of Gaines,Ellis or Rubles. Same can be said for Obekpa. Mc will use the entire roster to wear down his opponents and to try to force easy baskets. Hopefully during the offseason a couple of the biggs will develope some offense and make the attack more diverse. Modj and Jackson our the likely candidates but neither will give you what Yancy did offensively. Thomas will help offensively and will need to give us the same kind of production we got out of Killa after his redshirt season.

I guess this is why I asked the question I asked above. We're not bad at post entries because of what offense we run. We're bad at post entries because our players are bad at making post entries. It's that simple. We ran a completely different offense last year and the post entries were as bad or worse. It's a skill like any other.

I will grant you our offensive style sacrifices ball movement through passing and cutting for more dribble penetration. It probably does affect the lack of ball movement.
