But it CAN be done here and it isn't. People are well aware of that and have lost confidence, enthusiasm, and patience. The tired old excuses of a bad arena, ticket prices, weak schedule, etc were all there 15 years ago. The difference is, we were a national name despite all of that. It CAN be done and it isn't. Is it hard? Better believe it. But, it CAN be done.

Of course it can. I'm just stating it's hard as **** to find those coaches. Fans will never be happy here until it's back though I understand that.

So do you stick with a coach who isn't capable of achieving those goals? 8 years is enough time to know what we have. Cronin was a good recruiter when he had a "corvette" (Huggins/Pitino) to sell. Now that he is out there offering a Pinto, he is finding out that takers are a bit harder to find.

Yancy was 4 star, Lance was 5 star, Lawrence is 4 star and Moore is 4 star. He' getting highly rated players just not a bevy of them. Let's be real here if you have a group of guys that know their roles and can play basketball and not just run and jump you don't need a roster full of 5 star players to win. The Butlers and Creightons of the world have proven that. But you have to have something to bring it all together whether you have a team of skilled role players or a team full of 5 star players. Someone has to bring it together to function optimally. That someone is the head coach. I have seen Mick bring teams together in hard times. I am still waiting for him to take one to the next level.

Yes Ralph, Mick's performance has been the stuff of legends. I fully expect a nomination to the Basketball Hall of Fame shortly.

No amount of success will erase that one act of disloyalty. Mick was an assistant JV coach at Woodward when Huggs gave him an incredible opportunity to join this program as video coordinator, and soon promoted him to assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. That is a life-altering opportunity that one guy gave him. And to turn around a few years later and go to your #1 rival.....sorry, but that is an unprecedented level of disloyalty against a man who did you an immense favor..

So wrong. Mick was working 5 Star Camp when he was 19 years old. Mick had to get away from the stench that was Bob Huggins program, 0% grad rates, NCAA probation, not exactly an environment to get you hired as a head coach. Rick Pitino's assistants get head coaching jobs.

You're talking about a special coach in Brad Stephens. I don't know a damn thing about where his recruits were rated, but what my eyes saw were a bunch of players who were "far" better than just about anyone Cronin has run in front of us. If they weren't highly rated recruits, then you're pointing out one of Cronin's big weak points.....developing players. Yancy is a perfect example. Small improvement in 4 years.....never sniffed the NBA. Do you seriously think he wouldn't have sniffed the NBA if Huggs had coached him?

Frank Martin was Huggs asst. at K-State when he got the job. But how does going to your school's chief rival and working against your alma mater, just so you can get ahead, excuse him of being disloyal? Obviously, Huggs had a huge part of developing all these guys to be head coaches.

This thread isn't about Huggs. It's about Cronin. So, please stay on the topic.

Frank Martin got the job only because he happened to be there when Huggins went Benedict Arnold on K State, turning his back on the K State President who was the only guy who would hire him at the time. Ultimate disloyalty there.

Huggins has been gone a long time and ain't coming back. I could care less nor do I know how Yancy would have progressed. This has to do with the present and future not the past.

Where have I seen this done before?

Love your corvette comment and think it is somewhat accurate. Like the program I think MC is A work in progress. I think MC can grow into a very good coach. My question is if you replace him who takes this job? Weak conference, bad arena and small budget don't attract top of the line coaches. You want to start over with another no name from a small school?

Here is something I'll throw out there. You won't find one person in the industry who doesn't think MC hasn't done a remarkable job resurrecting this program. Now the thought from many fans is he is incapable of taking it further. You want better recruits and title runs but fans don't go to the games, scheduling is a problem, finances are thin, facility needs a face lift and you no longer have the BE brand to recruit to. Yes let's replace a guy who has taken us to 3 tourneys in a row and replace him with who??? Are you willing to roll the dice with another up and comer?

One last thing it's fun to post on this site and offer up our opinions on what coach should do and not do,who should play and who should sit. In reality no one posting has the excess to the players at practice, experience of coaching a D-1 program or overall knowledge to run a program. I say all this not to insult anyone but to hopefully tone down the emotional venting that goes along with the disappointment of a big loss. Making decisions in that state often lead to bad decisions.

I am not calling for a replacement. I'm saying it's time for him to rise because I agree where the program is isn't good enough.

I think TC and KJ are next level players if he let them off the leash majority of our mistakes and turn overs are coming from our upper classmen our so called veterans of the program I think they both should be starters right now offensively KJ and ST are neck and neck defensively KJ is a way better defender and between TC and GG we don't have to speak on I just think he really should look that way then that give us good fire power off the bench cause right now that starting line up that we have in now just not getting it done!

You are very correct, those in the industry know that what Mick has done is close to being a miracle. Also, the emphasis of the athletic department is now on football. $80 million expansion of Nippert, hiring Tommy Tuberville. TV revenue, conference affiliation, is all about football.

Huggins has been gone a long time and ain't coming back. I could care less nor do I know how Yancy would have progressed. This has to do with the present and future not the past.

You're absolutely right, and I was not the person who brought Huggs name into this thread, but it is very difficult to discuss one without the other since everyone tries to equate Mick's success as somehow surpassing what Huggs accomplished here....including yourself many times, I don't give a rat's a$$ about Huggs. I do give a rat's a$$ about the current state of our program and it's not very good at this point. 8 years is enough of an experiment. Time for a change.

No, I'm not willing to roll the dice. I prefer trusting the talent of Whit Babcock and Santa Ono to do exactly what they did when they replaced Butch Jones. Use their talent to find the right replacement. It's not rocket science. It happens all the time. I trust them a lot more than the two clowns who put us in this mess in the first place.

jeff, I understand that. I also think you realize this won't occur overnight because of a number of reasons. The question is WHO would take the job under the circumstances and be able to deliver our very lofty expectations any quicker. Remember factor in all the data.

The alternative is to stay the course and take small steps with a coach who's reputation is growing and is making progress. I have no doubt that if MC was let go he would have no problem finding a school in a better league, better facility and a larger fan base. We speak of loyalty. anyone doubt that If MC was to advise his agent he was open to changing jobs he couldn't get a raise and put himself in a more stable environment. He's been offered. His response, not interested.

Let's all come down off the ledge and cheer the team and watch the young guys grow.KJ,TC,and JL will provide good and bad moments this year. If anything it will be fun watching them grow. Next year with Strickland ,Morman and this years class added to the mix we should start back up the ladder.

A lot of us thought the same thing about the leash around JDIIIs neck. He's on the way to Ball St. now. How dare him try to mess up our defensive goals by introducing offense into the equation.

Wrong, the current state of the program is very good. Three consecutive NCAA Tourneys, playing in the Big East Tourney championship game, playing in the Sweet 16, and the players graduate! The class level of the program and the perception have improved 1000% under Mick. That happened because UC hired a man with integrity.

then trust them if they don't make a move. I'll make you a bet. Even if this team doesn't make the e dance and finishes 500 I'll wager that MC is not fired. The bet dinner at Martino's before a game. Now would they lose your confidence if they didn't replace him. I bet they think they are fortunate to have him.

I have the answer to that question and its Bruce Pearl. Honestly, he's EXACTLY what this program needs. A great recruiter, a proven winner and a guy who can sell his product to a fan base. His daughter goes to school at UC, his show cause expires after the season. He wants back into coaching and he won't command top dollar immediately given his circumstamces.

The guy made a dumb mistake and paid his price but in the grand scheme of things what he did wasn't that bad. I'd be willing to give him a second chance here at UC and think he'd be the perfect fit to replace Mick and unite our fan base.

You want a new arena? Bruce Pearl is the kind of guy who can deliver something like that. With Pearl and Tuberville at the helm I'd like to see a BCS conference deny us entry.
