New Arena

My issue is being able to see the game. If my view of the game is such that It is better in the man cave at home I will stay home. Atmosphere does very little for my enjoyment. There are certain things you can see in person you can't see at home but your seat has to allow that kind of visibility. Comfort also plays part. Sitting on a bench does not enhance my experience.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk asking why people prefer the banks, genuinely curious. Clifton has just as many food/drink options and usually way cheaper. I'm also always able to find free street parking in Clifton. What's better about downtown? It just seems like the consensus here has become that the pre-game and post-game experience would be much better downtown, and no one questions it. Have some of you not explored Clifton recently? All of Calhoun/McMillan and Short Vine is getting a huge makeover and adding tons of cool businesses. Why do you prefer downtown so much? Not as many college kids? You like the city atmosphere? You don't feel as safe in Clifton?

being I didn't go to school in Clifton I'm just more familiar downtown. I'm sure there are some nice spots in Clifton. As I mentioned I've spent time in Mios and Martino's. Again it is facility driving my preference. I'll go anywhere I can sit in a quality seat.

Bingo. I'm the same. That's also better for the school long-term. Higher ticket sales and a great-looking arena does wonders for recruits. Clifton and downtown both have their qualities, so I want whichever provides a nicer and more profitable arena.

If we can get an NBA-caliber arena downtown, I am all for it. If they are going to polish up the turd that is US Bank, I am completely against it. I don't know if US Bank can be turned into Yum Center 2.0.

NEW DETAILS on @uofcincy's proposed renovation of 5/3 Arena, coming soon. Would cut to 10,000 seats, no bleachers. @Enquirer @PrezOno

Official announcement coming soon?

Sounds like that whole "turning the court 90 degrees" everyone was talking about. 10,000 is low for me. It won't matter early in the season, but for those big matchups, I feel like that sucks. Ticket prices will be a lot higher, I'd have to guess, to even it out.

I don't mind 10,000 seats. Plenty of places have amazing atmospheres and less than 10,000 seats.

Or they lance off the top of the arena, the part we complain about most, and do nothing, much like lancing a boil, heh heh! You didn't like the bleachers and rafters? SHING! Problem solved

As i suggested earlier, does this now mean that they will try to raise the money once again? Seems difficult, but many were writing it off as impossible.

I love the games in Clifton. To each their own but I'm not one that just wants to drive down, park, watch the game, and go home. I do that a lot but when I can I love to have dinner/drinks before the game. Even when I don't I still enjoy walking through Clifton to get to the arena. Not sure why, but I love the experience.

I also love downtown and the prospects of The Banks. I'm there daily and get around with a blind fold on. But US Bank isn't in the core of downtown and it's still a decent walk to The Banks whereas GABP and PBS make up the east/west borders. IMO US Bank doesn't necessarily get The Banks experience even though it's pretty close.

Let me assure you, US Bank can not be turned into the Yum Center. The only way to do that would be to tear it down and rebuild. The place is just awful, and no amount of money can change that. The whole building design was fundamentally flawed from the start, so there is no real way to bring it up to modern standards. It should have never been built.

So are the student no longer going to be in bleacher seating? They usually just try to pack in as many as possible so actual seating would be kind of odd.

Also, just for perception sake it would be nice to have the capacity at 10,500 or greater.

And the Enquirer launched the article that has been discussed here in today's paper. Honestly it just sounds like another premature idea that IMO holds no weight. There is nothing new or concrete in this article. They all say the same thing...weighting options, waiting for Nippert to be done, asking donors for money, fifth third is dated.

Just to add my 2 cents, if they would move forward with fifth third renovation and cut the capacity to 10k that would be fine if....they do it right and not half ass it. Better concourses, concessions, and better seating is a must. Keeping the students really close and having that edge is a must. IMO our capacity doesn't need to be more than a little of 10k bc we don't average close to that. This major project is still years away and til I see something concrete all these articles are just repeating the same ideas in a slightly different matter. Kinda like the taco bell menu...they come up with new food items but its all the same food just mixed in different combinations. :)

I also don't have any issues with fewer seats. Perception is reality. If you average a sell out every game or close to it, it is much better for your program than if you sell the same 10,000 seats in a 13,176 seat arena.

UC architects want to have a plan done by the end of may. That's a little more than a premature idea.
