That's good to hear for sure. Still don't see anything coming from it by then but I'll wait for May to see what comes about it.

Yeah, I feel like we have heard this before. That said, I will continue to be optimistic because I really believe Ono wants to move this entire university forward including the athletics department. It's an exciting time at UC right now.

This proposal of a renovated 5th 3rd could simply be a ploy to put pressure on the US Bank group of investors to man up and actually put real money up. There are a lot more interests on that side (Hamilton country, the city, etc).

I understand the skepticism as we here in Cincy are always promised things and have to wait forever to get them, but UC knows it can't keep the status quo and continue to compete. Bohn was brought in with the history of moving programs forward and Ono definitely has shown that he's very forward thinking. The money is out there, they just have to find new avenues to pursue. At this point though I think it's important to have a concrete plan in place for fans and donors to get behind. I read the article and it made it sound as if the Nederlander group hasn't sat down and crunched numbers with UC. The city and county are pushing us to move downtown as are some donors for political reasons. It could help the Banks or get the RNC here. The problem with this is none of these has UC basketball as it's primary focus. It sounds like the BOT has bad memories of playing in that arena 30 years ago and isn't thrilled about the possibility of repeating that. I seem to be in the minority on here but I don't really want to move downtown nor am I sure I would renew my seats if they did.

IMO the city of Cincinnati has never really shown good support for their university. With all the corporate $ that is downtown, UC athletics has never benefited from it. If the city now wants UC to move downtown its for their own best interests and not UC's. I think our BOT realize that.

agree completely

Nederlander sounds like they just want a free upgrade of their facilities. They don't care if its UC for basketball or the city for the RNC. I don't necessarily blame them but they just seem very out of touch with both situations and are just sitting on their hands until either party offers them a bunch of money.

What really needs to happen is UC needs to demolish Dabney Hall, the Field House, and the old Sander Dining hall and make a great basketball arena. Wait to have the other 50 mil and make it happen. :)

But then where will all the Daniels kids go when they have to evacuate from fire alarm at 3AM?

Cincinnati is out of the running for the GOP Convention. It might make more sense to BUILD the nice new arena rather than to PROMISE a new arena.

Its a shame US Bank is so dismal, the GOP Convention would have been great for the city. I think it will be in Ohio and go to Cleveland. So sad.

There isn't any money for a new arena. Apparently there were some discussions about a small renovation to get some things up to code at 5th 3rd but nothing major.

With the looming 2016 GOP convention, I would much rather prefer a state of the art US Bank Arena to play in. Whatever will generate the most $$$ for the Athletic Department. I don't really care if basketball games are moved off campus, we've got a damn football stadium in the middle of campus that should be enough for alumni that want to get back to campus a few times a year.

Case in point: that convention isn't coming here because the arena is not up to snuff
