More Cronin: 'We've got a really good team, we’re just young.' #Bearcats

sigh..

1. you would think after a major coach makes fun of you for blaming every loss on being young you would chill out on it.

2. yea sorry you don't have a 25 year old man to play against college kids this year. is this the only way we won't be young?

3. why are your sr and jr being out played by your younger guys? that's not the teams fault but the product of your recruiting.

4. this is the college level and every one is roughly the same age and every school brings in new kids and lose kids at the sametime as you do. if you don't have your older kids ready and prepared to step up that's on you and the development of your kids.

5. i never heard the young excuse before mick arrived. now it's almost like brain washing that even the fans are using it almost as much as mick does.

Fairly accurate. Not sure why Mick has to say these things though.

Problem is what we all know is lack of positive production from our 2-3 positions. Get this fixed, we are Top 15 team. Problem is it's not getting fixed this year. KJ is struggling bigtime and I know it's hurting any confidence he may have had. It's one thing to have bad nights but man 26% 3pt shooting and 2-1 turnover to assist. It's supposed to be the other way around. Amazing that in over 300 minutes of playing time for him he still doesn't have an offensive rebound! Shaq has a 4-1 turnover to assist ration. What in the World is that? All we need is AVERAGE positive production from the 2-3 spots and we win 90% of games played.

careful, be prepared to be bashed by the "we are young" crowd.;)
Mick is just covering here. I like Mick always have. He's a fine coach and does a fine job with the guys he's recruited. Problem is Mick has had his troubles in identifying, recruiting, and securing the services of players that can produce positive results that's required consistently in high level basketball. He has hit on Garyand Troy bigtime. Now he needs a hit at the 2-3 spots soon.

This post here ^ makes you seem like a troll. No one had even said anything yet.

He shouldn't say young. Age wise, I mean Clark is 20 and we have several upperclassmen and a few who have had a redshirt year. I could understand if he said inexperienced, but that still seems like an excuse. And that'll never thrill the fan base.

go back a few pages. poster were defending the young team excuse before mick's comment was even posted, after i asked jeff when do we stop being a young team.

it's called humor. not trolling.

Yep. I mean Shaq had 8 in the first half and then just didn't score again. At least KJ had 4 attempts from inside 3 yesterday and 4 FT attempts. But that must continue. We've seen that Cobb has his hot and cold nights, so imo KJ has to be the guy every game to give us 8-13 ppg from those 2/3 spots. Enough of the "flashes" every once in a while and the 0-4 from 3 games. I'm maybe optimistic here (we'll see) but I think that UConn game showed us what we need to do to compete at a high level (toughen up with the ball). I think we will take Memphis to the woodshed. I'm looking for Clark to break out a little in the scoring column. He needs to master the 10-14 foot face up short jumper.

To your first 3 points, when Mick says this team is young HE IS NOT TALKING ABOUT THEIR AGE. He is talking about their relative experience. There are 7 new players and for them on the road at UCONN was their FIRST in conference road game. You know who else lost on the road yesterday in conference? Ohio State, Louisville, and Texas. It's hard to win on the road in conference. Even for experienced top 25 teams. It's not an excuse. It's just reality. It's calling a spade a spade. That remark will not be made next year because pretty much everybody is coming back. I dont see why this is hard to understand for you. As to your point on recruiting. You are 100% right. Mick swung and missed (BIG) on a certain class and right now its our achilles heal. We have to find a way to overcome that by players who might not be ready to step up. I.E. Clark, Cobb, Deberry and so on. Also dont give me this Sean Miller shit. I dont give a flying **** about what that rat has to say. Finally you hear coaches say it alllllllll the time about their teams being young. It's why development is so important. Can you honestly look at this team and not see the drastic improvement they've made up to this point since the beginning of the season. They are gaining experience with each other and getting better. It is not an excuse it is just reality. If you are too dense to understand that then you can not be helped and dont belong in the argument.

Didn't read all the posts but 100% a travel by Clark. There were many comments from the fans respecting this UC team, I think the general consensus there was that they snuck a must win game at home. Deberry is an absolute monster...Big O or someone needs to work with him but I'm excited to see what he can do next year. Tough loss but not a bad loss by any means. Watching Boatright get snuffed on made my day and luckily for me I had my phone out...should tweet it to him.

Gotcha. I thought you were just pulling that out to talk about in reaction to yesterday. My apologies. I will say though, it does kind of seem like you were looking for trouble. Maybe at least give people a chance to respond. By the time I read that post and then your next one, it immediately felt to me like you were trying to divide the board and everyone needed to choose sides. Just my thought...

oh i seen the improvement they made since davis has been in charge. i guess, as you say, is calling a spade a spade?

they actually started the improvement before Davis took over. Unless shooting 59% the 2nd half and 47% for the game against SDSU doesn't count (a team with the 2nd best AdjD according to kenpom.)

I have said all season long the 2-3 is the issue. I agree the young team statement can come across as a weak excuse but I also know a coach has to worry about the psyche of his team. My guess is the "WE ARE A GOOD TEAM" part of that is meant for that reason. Fans read to much into what a coach says positive or negative.

I like what I see taking place with this team but I believe at some point for it to be the best it can be the problems have to be fixed on the wings and with the turnover issues. If they can get 16-20 points from the wing nightly they will be hard to beat. Unfortunately, I don't see where that's going to come from. It looks to me like KJ is thinking before every shot and Shaq has always been unsure. To me, and I understand the back up pg argument, at some point you have to play Cobb and Caupain at the guards simply because they both have the confidence to score but then again what do I know? Cobb plays better on the wing when paired with TC than at pg.

If Mick was on the sideline against, say, NC State...what do you think the score would have been?

This is an absolutely useless debate. It's all opinion period and as I have said before I just don't get it. The people who typically don't like Mick have one opinion, the ones that do have another, and the way I look at it is I could care less if Joe the Plumber coached as long as they win, and frankly that's what we all should be concerned about.

Not directing this at you jacobkdoyle, just in general.

I hear you Jeff. It is useless.

We have a culture established here that doesn't accept losing. I think this team is starting to embrace that and will continue to grow. I think the guys are going to be chomping at the bit to get after Memphis. I think we can and will win our next 6.

For your information, I directed Cleveland Cavaliers basketball for television for 7 years. I understand the rules of the game very well. Based on the replay, it appeared he dribbled, stopped, pump faked, kept the left foot on the floor and moved his right. That's what I based my opinion on.

But keep hurling veiled insults. Makes you look super smart.

Different traveling rules between college and pro....

Was a clear travel.
