This is very very simple fellas.

The job of a coach is to win games. Mick has not done that. His fault or not, thats his job. Do your job and people like you, dont do your job and you will be looking for another one.

It ALWAYS comes back to the coach. Ya'll say the players dont play hard, the players miss open shots.... recruit better.

Im not trying to start a pissing match, but in sports, if you dont win it goes back to the leader, the coach/owner. Is that fair? prolly not, but its how it works.

I have stated this several times, Mick has my FULL support until THIS seasonis over. If NCAA, he will have my continued support. If not, well... However I think is VERY fair to question him throughout the process. His constant references to defense are tiresome, when the offensive sets he runs are bad.

Mick took over a program that had been destroyed by the prior coaching regime. He has done a remarkable job rebuilding it, that UC is this far along in 5 short years is amazing. Mick's contract will be extended again past it's current 2014 season.

Reason for micks complete collapses to end each season? ill assume yancy had a sprained ankle?

Taron Barker had the best fro

Oh man, I totally forgot about that. If I remember right, didn't he rock cornrows for a good part of the season, and then out of nowhere he had that awesome fro one night? God, it was glorious.

"Standing at 6 foot, and 6 foot 9 with the afro, Fletch."

Check out his fro in all its glory, too bad it couldn't help him stop Dajuan Wagner from Memphis.

This cannot be a serious question! The long flowing locks are sweetness. Unless someone can find a pic of Feild rocking the awesome fro, jihad stands. Plus he wasnt as bad of a player as people thought. Dude had range.

you cant argue that the dude had range. i still remember the only good shot of his career was against x as time expired a fade away i think. it was beautiful

i love in that clip they made sure to show how calipari hired dajauns dad just to get dajaun lol that calipari dude is sketchy

Haha yeah I laughed at that part, they tried to play it off by saying he was a good player in his day.

Then again, you define a season based on the Xavier game. Some people have higher expectations and most realize while its a rival game- its more important to make the tournament.

A) Taron Barker had a really decent Euro career
B) D'jaun Wagner's father was Milt, who had a Louisville HOF career and knew his crap.

R2G it is the coaches job to coach and the players job to execute. By their own admission they aren't paying attention to game planning details. This is the coaches responsibility. We don't know if the sets are bad if they aren't run correctly. This is the coaches responsibility as well.

The issue is about accountability. Mick Cronin is accountable for the players that fail to execute and don't pay attention to detail. It is his responsibility to make that happen. For 3 straight seasons it hasn't and my gut tells me there will be a reckoning for it.

As a manager for many years I've had as many as 53 people report to me. Sometimes they failed in their jobs and my boss handed me my ass. What they did wasn't my fault but they were my responsiblity and I was accountable. That's where I differ from some. I've seen Mick beat better teams with lesser talent and a roster of juco players that did what they were asked and play hard every play. I've also seen him lose with good players because the players didn't do what was asked of them.

In both cases he was responsible for the teams results and accountable for it.
It will be interesting to see how deep that accountability will cut.

I agree with what youre saying,

When the players come and go and the same problems persist, it reflects poorly on the coach.

And granted yes, Mick took over a poor situation. You still have to find ways to come up with a game plan that your players ARE CAPABLE of executing

Are you ready for this, ready2go?...

I agree with you! :D

R2G you're right. It's no different than football. If players are thinking too much you simplify things so they can play without doing so. In the end it's about execution and making the other team defend you. If you're sharp with your sets good things will happen. Mick is a good X and O guy. He just has to get his players to do what's asked of them.

UC's program was not destroyed by a prior coaching regime, not even remotely close to being accurate.
Just what kind of remarkable job has mick done? Last year he had one of UCs all time leading scorers, and two NBA players in his pocket only to do what? Collapse and lose in the NIT?

Mick has done a good job under extraordinary circumstance. He has not done a remarkable job. He is not as bad as people like LL paint him and he hasn't been the savior Ralph paints him to be. He's rebuilt the foundation but is yet to build the house.

I think Mick would be the first to tell you there is still a lot of work to be done. Ralph is always over the top when it comes to UC and especially Mick Cronin but as Jeff said, there are others that are a 180 in the other direction. This program has come a long way since Mick arrived with no scholarship players (thanks to the timing of the firing by the administration and the lame duck interim status for AK). I fully believe that Mick is the right coach to lead this team into future success in the Big East. There have and will continue to be growing pains. Mick was only a head coach for 3 years before coming on board to rebuild this program. There are going to be times where he makes mistakes as a coach. The key is to learn from them. I think he has done a good job of that. I think a lot of people are still mad that he left UC for UL and view him as a traitor. You and I and everyone here would have done the exact same thing. I hope Mick succeeds because with his ability to recruit, if he can have some on court success, UC can be back to being a National power in the next few years.
