Everybody new it was a priority to start fast and not fall behind. So they fall behind 13-3 early and it was catch up the rest of the game. It was 52-52 the rest of the game but the poor start killed them. Gary Clark didn't score.

Yep and Mick explicitly said before the game that the first 5 minutes would be a "feeling out process". God forbid we come out guns blazing.

Ellis and Shaq came to play.

But they combined to turn it over 8 times. This crap has been going on all year and it must stop. It doesn't matter what tempo you play, when you turn the ball over this often you will lose. It was bad last year and it is bad this year.

I'm picking us to beat ISU. So it's nit all that bad. Few coaching tweaks to rotation is all. Might need teach guards stop reaching on perimeter and just play with hands up.

Yeah turnovers killed us down stretch. I'll fix that by taking ball out of Shaq hands and only feeding Ellis off jenifer or Evans passes. Notice how easily our bigs go right up and score off jenifer pass

Where was university and city pride tonight. Mick only person from team in seen mad. He actually should've been the last, letting a city rival out swag him

Against Syracuse Louisville Memphis UConn Mick ALWAYS pulls a rabbit out him defensive game plan. Seriously what was special plan to play the best team you'll face all season?

Xavier did nothing to hold us to 55 points. We chose to play this way today, and anyone who has ever watched a Mick team knew what was going to happen. That's the whole reason for our "new" style of play. But the coach and/or the PG don't truly believe in it, so hard to ever expect anything to change against the best competition. I think Mick got scared off by allowing 78 to Butler, so he went back to his comfort zone. Huge mistake. You will NEVER beat Xavier, especially on their floor, when you score 55 points. So why you'd play the style that you know for a fact produces that point total is beyond me. Incredibly disappointing...not bc we lost...but bc we were right back to square one. This garbage today wasn't high major college basketball fellas. We're more than capable of playing at that level though, that's why this is so frustrating. I guess I'll move on, but why should I believe this isn't going to happen again the next time we determine (before the game) that we are playing a "big time" opponent?

Because Mick is a piss poor coach.

Does Mick have some master plan this season? His coaching/substitution decisions have been really strange.

I don't think there is a master plan. I honestly think Mick tends to psych himself out before the game even starts. If it is determined that we're playing a good team, he believes the "uptempo" style is just a nonsense gimmick. And if you really want to win those games, you have to win by 50 point grinder. Bc that's how you really need to play. You have to "gut" it out and win a rock fight. That's what he knows. And unfortunately, that means you score 0 fast break points, like we did today. We went against a set defense on virtually every possession. That's really freaking hard to do. And in postgame Mick says something like "When you have 16 TO you aren't going to win, and all other talk about strategy is moot". Come again? Way to deflect the blame coach. Does 16 TO make it hard to win? Damn right it does. But each and every one of those TO is more costly when you intentionally play limited possession, glorified high school basketball. This was a problem last year...and we played this style. And the fact that they weren't putting extreme pressure on us, or pressing, just confirms AGAIN that the style we chose today is not right for our personnel. How many minutes did we waste today having Troy walk it up the floor in slow motion? How many more possessions could that have given us? Notice Xavier plays pretty much the exact opposite of us offensively, and they had no problem scoring in the mid-60s (against an elite defensive team that is taking the air out of the ball). They have no problem beating us 7 out of the last 9 times. And they have no problem getting to Sweet 16s on a regular basis. We complain about defense when Myles Davis flies down the floor and gets a layup with 26 on the shot clock after a make...but we didn't try anything like that ONCE. Hell, with 26 on the clock, we're lucky to have Troy more than 25 feet from the opposing baseline. And good thing we took the time at the beginning to "feel things out" too, bc they went up 10-1 like it was nothing. Bc it was nothing. It's not like anything crazy happened...they were just playing their normal game and we were waiting to get the ok from coach to start the game. I just can't believe I thought we were over this.

I love how they aren't even pressing after a made shot and Caupain stands there with the ball bouncing at his feet calling for a guy to throw it in to him. Seriously? Pick up the damn ball, throw it in to ANYONE, get it back, and get your a$$ up the floor.

Did anyone else see this? Ball literally bouncing at his feet and he's standing over it, not touching it like it's on fire...bc he's isn't the "throw in guy"! Do we seriously have rules like this? I'm thinking yes bc against GW we turned it over throwing it to the "throw in guy" as he was heading out of bounds. Is this grade school? For God's sake. THEY AREN'T PRESSING! Pick up the f***ing ball, throw a pass to WHOEVER, and let's go. Why a 3rd year D-1 PG is standing under the basket waiting for someone else to throw it in to him is downright laughable.

Also on this note, when they aren't pressing, why does Troy stand 3 feet from the baseline on inbounds? Ummmm go to the free throw line area at a minimum, especially if you're going to walk...might save us a few seconds on EVERY possession.
