Well my main point was just that last year's 3 pt show wasn't really a zone vs man problem. We deliberately left a guy we thought couldn't shoot. That's a little different than sitting back in a zone and them shooting over the top.

Our zone is an aggressive zone anyway so I'm not even sure it makes them more likely to take 3s the way we play it.

More to the point, Clark can't guard Bluitt. I'll just put that out there as bluntly as I can.

No way was the plan to just leave him wide open. Especially after he makes 1, then 2, then 3, then 4... As was mentioned, he wasn't the only one getting wide open looks. Myles Davis also had 2 wide open looks in the first half. Were we leaving him open on purpose too? Don't kid yourself, the plan is never to just let wide open shooters drain 3s. Their offense just makes it look that easy vs a zone. There's a difference between having a team takes jumpers you want them to take, and draining uncontested 3s.

Not sure I agree with this. Bluitt doesn't seem real fast or quick to me, so Clark would definitely be pulled away from the comfort of the paint outside to cover him, but I think he could definitely guard him without any problem. He just wouldn't get as many rebounds if that is who Mick assigns to Bluitt. Is Bluitt quicker than I'm giving him credit for?

I'm not sure if he's quicker than you are giving him credit for but I don't think Clark is comfortable guarding the perimeter at all. It's not like Bluiett is just going to stand in the corner all game and not move.

With that being said, I don't think there's any way Bluiett can guard Clark down low.

That matchup is a key to the game. I don't think either guy can guard each other. If UC can not turn the ball over, I like our chances being able to score. For the first time that I can remember, I am much more concerned with the defense. Xavier has been an elite offensive team for a better part of two years.

X, just like everybody else is going to double our turnover machines big men. Like everyone is saying, whoever wins game from behind the arc wins. I can't see x letting Clark go off against any of their players

They've been sticking with the 1-3-1 and if we play Ellis/Clark, there is no reason for them to come out of it.

I think we go into this game with two goals.

1) Make sure at the end of the game that Ellis is still on the team for the remaining teams on the schedule.

2) Win the game.

The question is......would we sacrifice Ellis for the season if it meant that we would come away with a win? J/K

If I were coaching this team, I would start Deberry and let the X guys hit us with the barrage of trash talk and elbows that will be flying early when the adrenaline is flowing. Then when all that stuff is done, bring in Ellis. Since he was an active participant in the big fight, I'm sure the X fans will hit him with every profanity imaginable when he runs out of the tunnel. He will already be jacked up. The crowd will put him almost over the top. And then Reynolds will do something crazy in the 1st 5 minutes and the Thrilla in Manila will be re-enacted.

If we lose, but still have Ellis at the end of the game, I'll view it as a partial victory. Hope we achieve both goals above.

Not willing to set the bar so low for our student athletes. I expect them to go out and represent the University with class. Max effort and not being drawn into a physical confrontation should be the norm. If they don't already know that I am disappointed.

The brawl (or anything like it) cannot happen again. If it does they need to cancel the games for good (and then suspend all the Xavier players).

I'll settle for a good old fashion beat down on the score board. Have no desire to see anything else.

With how the two teams have played leading up to the game I have to give the edge to X. Cats will need to guard and minimize TO's. I really can not see us getting into a up and down game with them and win. Not at this point in time in the season. I also don't think we should change our approach. We are a work in progress. Their development is a bit further along then ours is right now. Hope I'm wrong but that is how I see it.

Listening to Mick's media availability today. He's already making excuses. I think he sees a beatdown looming after watching Xavier on film.

I def feel it coming. Let's be honest and point out the elephant in the room...

X has straight up owned UC the last 15 years. They have beat UC 11 times. Not much of a rivalry if you ask me.

Obviously we have had our personal down years when Mick started but it is what it is. Part of Xavier's success against us is because they treat it as their biggest game on their schedule. They have never tried to hide that and it shows in the win/loss column. I could go on and on about the differences in how both teams treat this game but its not worth it. I think it would be repeating things everyone on this board already knows. 4 wins for UC in the last 15 years is straight up embarrassing. But like Mick said, there's no banner for the Victor, it won't stop one team from playing a championship, or going to the tourney, so its a matter of pride. When it comes to this game, it always seems UC has to swallow theirs, tuck it between their legs, and take a L and move on.
