Yancy's Shelf Life Gone?

Who exactly is going to do that? The guy the coach kicked off the team at the end of last season and then let back in?

You are right, but I am not sure who is going to fill that role. To fill that role and be credible you have to have the resume to back it up, I don't think any of our players have that. Here's hoping someone does though and Yancy listens. He is Mick's signature recruit, something has to change.

Two Words:

Sean Kilpatrick.

Unfortunately I'm not sure he wants to take that leadership role on yet. Although I think he is nearly ready for it- I don't think he WANTS to because of all the upperclassmen on this team.

Yeah I was thinking he'd be nice filling that role, but he is really a first year player...tough to do as a freshman.

The only reason I think he could get away with it is because he's a redshirt freshman AND he spent a year in prep school so he's already 20.

I'll say this for the third time in 3 threads. It NEEDS to be the seniors. One or all together. They have the most to lose and the most to gain by going out with their signature on the rebuilding of this program. It's now or never for them.

And I'll say this again: SK is the leader of this team.

Everyone wants to talk about the eye test. Well when I take the eye test on this team my eyes always end up going to Sean.

I want the seniors to step up just as you do... and I think they will in their own individual ways. I'm just not sure I see any leaders among them. If I had to choose one it would probably be Ibrahima, followed by Larry then Bishop.

I agree that its completely insane that its not the seniors stepping up and leading this team. I think you nailed it that the seniors are staring a very dissapointing college career right in the face.

With that said, lets face facts. The seniors have had 4 years to prove they can make this team a winner. If a freshman or anyone else is willing to take ownership of this group of players and show this team how to win in the BE, sign me up ASAP.

SK don't have the investment in this program the seniors have. They should be instilling a sense of urgency in the other players. They should be demanding the others play hard. They were doing that early in the season. They need to step up. I have said all year Sean would be one of the best players on this team, but it is upperclassmen that make the difference. If not in terms of being the best player, certainly in terms of expectation.

I do agree that the leaders have to be the seniors but these guys really had no leaders in front of them to learn from.

Ran some quick numbers which probably mean nothing but here goes:

The senior class of 5 has logged the following numbers so far.

42.4% of all the minutes
31.9% of all the turnovers
47.5% of all the fouls
44% of the rebounds (taking away team rebounds from the total)
36% of all the points scored.

I know stats can give false readings but does anything pop out? I know you have to discount McClain with his limited minutes but don't you think you should be getting more than 36% of your points from the senior class? Should your experienced seniors be committing less turn overs?

I give Yancy credit for his hustle today.

Agree. Yancy took a pretty good beating the last three days. Great effort and forced the UL defense into tough situations.

If that continues the last five games I believe Selection Sunday will be a happy day around here.

i was proud of the fans tonight at the Shoe'. While the fans in attendance are not shy about shouting criticism, tonight they did not hesitate to acknowledge the efforts of Gates and show their appreciation. Good job Gates.

Just had to come on here and say; as much as I booed Yancy's lack of effort on Sunday, I cheered him even more tonight given his high intensity and effort. What a great game!!!

We've all said it. Cash and Gates are the keys to this teams success. Last night both played like we needed them to. Gates don't have to score 20. He does have to be a presence. Cash can't start the offense from 35 feet away from the basket. He has to attack and make things happen. If both happen nightly this team will be just fine.

How bout some big ups for my boy SK Jeff? :p

I know we'll probably always agree to disagree about the leadership thing but Killa brought it last night and finished STRONG at the rim!

Gates played well, no doubt about it. But lets be real here, it was Cash's and SK's game.

agreed...it is no coincidence that Gates' two best games are UC's two best wins (XU and Louisville)...if he can provide the inside presence and Cash can penetrate and distribute the ball, this team could be a tough team to beat come BEast tourney time, and possibly in March Madness
Go Bearcats!

I'd like to see two full games of effort before I go too hyped up.

Hopefully the team is on the right track from here on out.
