With todays instant technology and social media one would think UC has been rising on networked players/coaches radars. If I am Joe Smith in UTAH and want to play in the Bigt East for a program on the rise or a program with some recent success/where I could get them to the next level, I dont think ST JOHNS is that program.

I think rise in media attention and instant news has also helped coaches such as Mick search for players he's interested in. I know we all want that immediate impact 5 star player but I think Mick prefers the under the radar chip on their shoulder type of player. Huggins used to call those type of guys "Burger King All-Americans". He's building these guys up to contribute by their Jr. & Sr. year. What's nice with his program model is that there is always a base of upperclassmen that have been through the rigors of the Big East, are big game tested, and learned from those before them. I think it gives us the opportunity to be consistently good and always a threat. I really think we are going to be the program that nobody wants to see in their bracket come tournament time.

Bearcat22,I agree with your comment. If your a team that can't get 1 and doners every year you need good players with a high ceilings. MC has been very good with this approach. Now if he can land that one, one year player to fill a need and push us over the top for a Championship I hope he has the clout to make it happen.

I disagree. I think Mick wants the McD AA's, he just knows that he has a better chance at under the radar players. You think he would rather have had Teague or Guyn (no offense to Guyn)? Behanan or Ellis?

Fair point. I think he needed to bring back stability and continuity in addition to just top talent. Outside of UK not many team can consistently turn a roster over each year and contend. I think he would have been thrilled with Teague or Behanan, but the program foundation is strong as a whole and survives (and recently thrives) without them. I agree with Waite Hoyt that maybe with a stronger base he can take more chances on one and done guys.

I think one of Mick's skills is finding that diamond in the rough. I'm not sure how many top programs recruited Killpatrick but I bet most in the Big East wouldn't mind having him now.

Mick has already landed 1 one and done talent which is better than every school in the area minus Osu, uk, and iu.

That is remarkable considering the situation he was dealt.

Mick will land many more 1 and dones soon

I think Caupain is going to be a serious diamond in the rough from what I've read.

I didn't always believe it, but Mick is building this thing right.

St. John's gained even more momentum over the wknd in the Chris Obekpa sweepstakes. Looks like a formality that he'll wind up in Queens.

Best of luck to him. I hope it works out.

Hopefully our up-tempo Cats can drive the lane and get this kid in some foul trouble. Would have been nice to get him, but right I'm too excited about our recent 2013 commits!

Yep. Let's just enjoy our 2013 success so far and look forward to hearing about some future big men.

Horrible decision. Lavin is as crooked as they come. Oh well, he probably wasn't good enough for uc anyways with the talent we have

Enjoy playing on a sub .500 team next year Chris! Hopefully lavin paid for your cable so you can watch us in the final four

Seems like a sensible response. You guys are doing wonderful things . Why the sour grape post?

I have not said to much on this topic, frankly because I dont care.

But I waited till his commitment came out, so ill say my thoughts now.

Didnt want this guy, dont want this guy, glad hes not coming. Dont care to have diva lbj on our team. The fact that people still followed his PATHETIC recruitment show was comical.

Because BearcatMick is an idiot and that is what he does on this board.

Good luck to Obekpa, I would have loved to have him and don't look forward to having to play against him.
